    Dominic, that was perfect. I’ve been wing foiling for 3 years now and traditional efoiling just never seemed tempting enough (too heavy and sluggish and pricy!), and SUP foiling too much work for my 64 yr “old-guy” status. While the basic assist plus looked attractive, the whole tape on efoil drag or “keep it high” in strictly assist mode, also didn’t quite do it for me. However watching you transition seamlessly between carvy efoiling, pumping and easy swell riding was amazing. That’s exactly what I want, and the Axis 37l pump board looks like a perfect fit for my 77 kg size. I figure I can start out with my current wing board (Cabrinha Code 5’0”) and than add the smaller board soon after. I feel the bank account balance shrinking already😂

      I'm stoked you found my video helpful! Have you seen the other two videos I did after that one? One of me using the integrated efoil mast for surfing and the other one for downwinding? I didn't want to get a full efoil for the same reasons as you, and thank God I didn't, because FoilDrive really is the answer to our prayers👌💯😁😁😁

      @@dominichoskyns9091 I watched them both right after the original review, and the Foil Drive intro video as well. Convinced me even more! Also impressed with how easy it was to start and get up on foil with a sinker board. If I was a lot younger with extended pumping endurance, I could see going with the close-to-the board “assist” position, but the efoil position just looks like so much fun and easier, while still providing plenty of challenge. I won’t be into anything larger than waist-chest high mushy surf or knee-waist high downwind swell. I live on the Outer Banks (North Carolina). Guessing I’ll go for the 80cm mast length option. Thanks again😀.

    Awesome overview Dominic. Thanks for taking the time.
    We recently partnered with Foil Drive and are using it to teach people to foil and get hooked on foiling and also FD.
    We have been using standard assist plus in efoil mode and I get what your saying about drag.
    We plan to have some in the assist mode but to teach people it sounds like the efoil mode is the most advantageous in the integrated mode. Main issue is you can’t move the pod. For the benefits it’s sounds like you would go for the integrated mode?
    Also for prone and a person at your weight what board size did you first start with or would you recommend, if they already foil?

    • @dominichoskyns9091
      @dominichoskyns9091  Год назад +1

      For efoiling the integrated mast is definitely the best choice. With the motor in the assist position there’s not much saving in drag but it’s much more convenient if your constantly swapping between different setups.
      I’m 82kg and I went from a big floaty SUP (110ltrs) to a 60ltr wing board before moving to a prone board (32-37ltrs)

    Awesome review. Just got my FD+ without this integrated mast and i don't feel i am missing out any since i only want to use it for assist and not really looking to e-foil. You mentioned that when you use your non-integrated FD+ for non e-foiling you typically have the motor set 6-8" from the board. I use a cloud nine mast and when i installed my FD pod it was at about 12" from the board. I wanted it to go a bit closer but then the pod had a pretty large gap between the 2 halves, about 1 cm gap and that looked like a potential breaking point. Even if i cover up the gap with some foam and tape it is still a weak point. Gonna try to try to adjust down to closer to 10" maybe to get the motor closer to the board.

    • @dominichoskyns9091
      @dominichoskyns9091  Год назад +1

      It sounds like your mast is tapered. If so then FoilDrive probably make a different size pod for the top and bottom of the mast - I would contact them and ask because you need the pod to be a tight fit to make sure there are no vibrations when in use.
      I used to have the pod at least 9" if not 10" below the board, but the more I used it the closer I have moved it to the board (obviously not when in full e-foil mode though), it just takes a bit of getting used to. Although it's possible to do all these things with the motor in full e-foil mode, as I said in the video - I would always prefer to have the motor out of the water when possible.

      @@dominichoskyns9091 Thanks for the helpful feedback, reached out to FD support but so far no response. I managed to move the pod down from 12in to about 9in using the longer bolts provided but the gap is significant and i am using a whole lot of electrical tape to cover things up. Man i wish i knew earlier that the Cedrus/FD collab was an option before i bought my kit. I did not fully appreciate how important non-tapered mast designs are. Would have been way easier with the Cedrus Mast.

    Nice review as usual. However, since this is a low drag e-foil setup, it would be relevant for potensial buyers to get info about riding time on one battery. With your skill you could just get on the foil and ride in circles on flat water until dropping off foil and time it. This might be heavy on the battery with heat buildup during prolonged use, so might not be recommended, but in any case relevant information in an unbiased review

    • @dominichoskyns9091
      @dominichoskyns9091  Год назад

      It depends what type of foilng you want to do predominantly. If mostly efoiling and a bit of the other foiling disciplines then the efoil position is best. If mostly other foiling disciplines rather than efoiling then the assist position is best.

    What was your run time?

    • @dominichoskyns9091
      @dominichoskyns9091  Год назад +1

      If it was my only mast, having the motor in e-foil position would definitely be a contender, because you really can do everything with it (as long as you are happy with the very small reduction in performance due to the slight extra drag from the motor), but the biggest factor for me would be the conditions that I would be riding in for the majority of time. Some conditions suit having the e-foil position (eg predominantly flat water or large rolling swell with choppy water), but if I lived in a place that had consistent clean waves then I think I would prefer the motor to be higher - in the assist position.
      The run time is a lot longer than without the integrated mast, but exactly how long depends on the size foil I use, how many times I fall off and have to get back on foil (which drains the battery more than when on foil) and how much pumping I do when on foil.

      I still use the removable motor pod on my axis high modulus carbon mast because for big foils I find the project cedrus mast has too much flex for the really big foils like the 1300 & 1310

    eFoiling on a 12L board - that requires some skill! 🤙 Dominic are you going to try the Vortex by Lacroix Board? It's a similar concept like FoilDrive with the box mounted between the mast plate and the track system. It's got a bigger battery so it'll obviously be heavier than FoilDrive but I was wondering whether one could use it on a small pump board...

    • @dominichoskyns9091
      @dominichoskyns9091  Год назад +2

      If you (or Lacroix) want to give me one to test I wouldn't say no😉, but I can't afford to buy one myself. The reason why I chose FoilDrive is because they have made a huge effort to keep the weight as low as possible. Even the large battery makes a significant difference in how hard it is to pump - any heavier and I don't think it would be possible to pump for a reasonable amount of time. The whole FoilDrive assist plus setup with large battery is 3.7kg. With the medium battery I believe its just under 3kg and with the small battery is 2.4kg. The difference in how easy it is to pump even between the medium and small battery is considerable. I suspect the Vortex is a lot heavier than 3.7kg because its designed to perform like a full efoil not as an assist. Anything that adds over 5kg of weight will be a dog to pump

    Hi Dominic, very interesting😮 Question, have you tried low wind winging with this setup? Do you think it would make any sense instead of selling the house and buy two integrated systems💵💵

    • @dominichoskyns9091
      @dominichoskyns9091  Год назад

      It's definitely possible, BUT, you have to be willing to accept a slight reduction in performance (glide mainly) due to the motor being permanently underwater. Even though the vast majority of drag came from the cable (which is now missing), there is still a small amount of drag from the motor, which although is minimal is still noticeable when comparing to foiling without the motor underwater. As long as you are happy to accept this minimal amount of drag it is fine - it's no where near as bad as having a plastic bag wrapped around your foil or mast🤣

I am looking to add another rear wing. I do a lot of what you do -- wing foiling, Foil Drive on flat water and in the waves. The p300 is definitely a step up in performance compared to the p350. It's faster (less drag) and turns tighter / is more maneuverable, but still retains 100% control and ease of use. I prefer the progressive stabs over the old KDmaui stabs, but I haven't used his latest stab - I think it's called the Marlin (or something beginning with M)
