My husband passed away 5 yrs ago and was a hard core moody blues fan. We went to any concerts available I play their music and in almost every song it pertains to us Mike this is for you my love❤❤❤❤❤
Don't understand how this song didn't become a classic--it is soooo Moodies, soooo beautiful: touching lyrics, Lodge's lilting bass lines, the sax, everything! Yet 'Steppin in a Slide Zone' (from the same album) is chosen on most compilations! I LOVE THIS SONG.
Heard it just once in '78 and for years only remembered the title but never again heard the song. Proof that on first listening the song was so haunting as to follow me right up to about 2015 when I discovered it on RUclips. Talk about a lonesome sound...
The Moody Blues often cover deep emotional/spiritual feelings and thoughts, many people don't get it, because it seems too painful to compare with what is going in our lives, at any particular time.
I saw the Moodies about 18 times since the 70's and i only remember them playing this song a few times. It's so beautiful. Thank goodness for U tube. Thank you Moodies for all your great music. We love you
For the life of me, why didn’t the radio play all their wonderful songs in the U.S., I feel cheated by the music industry, their songs are fantastic! 👏👏👏🌹🌹
They played the Moody Blues more often in the the late 60's early 70's, I consider myself lucky, I was 18 years old in 1970. I saw them in concert in Baltimore, I felt they were heavenly angels sent to rescue me from a horrid nightmare of a childhood (extremely dysfunctional family unit). They represented the first ray of hope, that my life could change for the better. I am 72 years old as of this post and I still love them, and listen to them often. I was and I am blessed for having listened to the Moody's deeply and regularly. They were a significant part of my spiritual awakening.
@@Mykee1997 I had a dysfunctional home life too, but I married at 16 to get away from my abusive mother. Thankfully I truly loved my boyfriend & we’re still married since 1965…58 yrs. Music was a big part of my happiness, still is. I spend a lot of time watching The Moody Blues & I’m 75. I’m glad The Moody Blues made you feel spiritually & happy thru your life…Peace! ☮️👍
I would have thought this naff 20 years ago but I'm old enough now to appreciate it. Still, you can't beat their core seven albums from the 60's to the early 70's.
SUBLIME, HARMONIOUS, CLASS, BEAUTY, LYRICAL. THE MOODY BLUES, OUT OF THIS WORLD. JUSTIN HAYWARD, THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR SONGWRITING AND HAUNTING VOICE X
Justin Hayward is incapable of writing a bad song. This is one of his most beautiful love songs along with In My World, Nights in White Satin and many more. The Moody Blues is one of my favorite bands.
This was when music was real. It could make you dance with passion or make you run your head into a wall but we could relate either way. Those days are gone and I feel old and forgotten. But I can always remember when Love and Music were one and the power both held within me...
John Sparks Take heart John! You have lots of company! We may be older but the music is still as powerful for anyone with the ears to hear! (Young or old!)😎
I remember sitting in a pub in 1978, just after breaking up with my fiancée when this song came on the jukebox. Hearing it now brings back the sadness. A great song by the best group ever.
I can't believe someone could give this a negative rating! I heard him sing this live a few weeks ago and it was just beyond amazing. His voice gives me chills! Justin has the voice of an angel♥
I love this song! I love the Moody Blues too! They have been one of my very favorite bands since 1967 when I was 17. I always wanted to go to one of their concerts. For various reasons I didn't go. However this October 21st they were here in Portland, Or. I finally got to go! I was so excited! I was 9 to 10 rows back from the front. There were thousands there! The place was packed! The concert was unbelieveable. Justin & John have beautiful voices, and they play those guitars like angels. Anyway, during the concert Justin stopped, put his hand above his eyes and was looking over the crowd. He was saying Hi! to people. I was jumping up and down and waving. He stopped looked right at me and said; "I see you sweetie!" Well all of those years I had loved the Moody Blues was all worth it! My heart soared! Everyone was so excited and clapped so hard at the end of the concert, (2 hours) that they came back out. John said; "Thank you all for keeping the faith". And they played some more! When my husband, brother, sister-in-law and I came out of the concert we all agreed you can't go to a moddy Blues concert and not be renewed, or excited about life. And you also feel loved and appreciated! Once in a lifetime event for me. I love you Moodies! You have a special place in my heart! The Lord created only one group like them!
I've lost count, they come, you go, that's all there is to it. Been to a number of concerts in neighboring states as well, and each time I have a more profound appreciation of all things Moody. Love all the guys, miss Ray (RIP) brother.
A song I listened to with my wife many for nights after finishing work together. It's a sad song, but brings back happy memories. We are still together 43 years and 7 kids later. It's sit;; a beautiful song.
Driftwood is one of the most beautiful songs by Justin I have heard, and yet it is new to me. He and John sing with such soulful understanding. The Moodies are a treasure to this world. Justin is a special, beautiful person that only comes around once in someone's life time. I am so happy that I will finally get to see them live this year. I have loved them since 1967 when I was 17. God Bless Justin & the Moody Blues, I love you!
Wonderful song,30 years later stil makes me think The Moodies are my favourite group, always sounding on my trips to India,Morocco, etc.Yeah, definitely, their music is inside my heart.Thanx a lot,Justin Hayward and friends.
Justin is one singer who I can listen to for hours on end and never tire of his voice and lyrics. These guys are one helluva band, have loved them since 1966 when I first heard Days of Future Passed
Driftwood was first heard in Popular Creek out aide chicago in 1981 3 rd row Mesmerizing Song Concert was unbelievable!! I saw Fourore times fantastic show been Hooked since 1974
What a superb song! Bought it on its first week of release back in 1978 I believe. The melody, the harmonies, the production all go to make this a most memorable recording for myself at least. Why was this not at the number one spot in the charts of the day?
The Moody Blues were a wonderful band that everyone just loved and their music was just so incredible and all their songs really touched my heart. Stephen Peters.
After Nights in White Satin, this is Hayward's best love song/ballad! I saw the MBs last month at O2-they are AWESOME ROCK LEGENDS...............Driftwood is a very romantic song and it really grows on you.
I remember when I was a kid going into my brothers bedroom and listening to his Moody Blues albums, I was around 10 years old then, I'm 51 now. Love the Moody Blues and always will.
I love this promotional video of Driftwood with the close ups of Justin and John looking abs hot, love this beautiful love song from Octave album, always 💖
The most underrated band born of the 60's, who carried on through the 70's, re-emerged anew in the 80's, struggled for an identity through the 90's, and are still searching for 'the Lost Chord' in the new Millenium... So many of their songs over so many years have touched so deeply into my soul that i am lesser without them as a part of me.
+Paul Melhuish - Ahh, you two are babes in the woods. I'm '73 and they're STILL among my most faves of all time. This song, in particular, brings back deep and meaningful memories of a very special person.
gotcha all beat I am 82 and love these guys. I just re-discovered them . Missed out in the fortys and fifties but I sure appreciate them more now I think they can't be beat. God I love these guys
I am 19 and i'm grateful that my father introduced me to the Moody Blues and much more when I was younger. Without him I don't think I would be able to appreciate such a wonderful band and a great part of my childhood.
I've always loved The Moody Blues & I think I've actually been able to hang on to every one of their albums! Even my mother (who recently passed away after 92 years on Earth) was amazed at their music. They are truly a timeless band - relevant yesterday, today & always. Their harmony, melody & lyrics are magic ~
I just had to share again what beautiful souls these men have. They know the Lord and it is evident in their music and the heart they present to all they sing for. Though they have aged their music has grown more beautiful. I am very excited to have opportunity to see Justin on Tuesday here in Portland, Or. presenting some of the music from his new album "Spirits of the Western Sky" which is just breathtaking! They have the most beautiful music, voices, hearts & souls, and share it all with the world. Many Blessings dear, sweet, wonderful Justin & John.
The first album I bought (in the 60s) was by the Moody Blues. For a time they were considered "underground" but now are considered "classical". I love the way they sing and not shout but still get their rock and roll message/music across nonetheless.
They also liked LSD and that was evident in their music, too. I think today's music and our society would be better if LSD made a resurgence. We need peoples hearts and souls be opened to higher consciousness.
Thank you for posting this video! I heard this song when it first came out, many years ago, and never heard it again, it always stayed in my mind. I finally found it here and I am so glad!!

My father raised me on these guys. I can tell you this song was off of Octive. 1976-77. This is his favorite Moody Blues song, but he's owned all their albums for as long as I can remember and has schooled me on them just as long. He still plays the game at my 34 years of age now, of picking a song and asking me what album.
