Have you seen topical minoxidil in combination with tretinoin? It has an enzyme that helps us convert the minoxidil into minoxidil sulfate, so it's almost an oral minoxidil without the downsides.
Hi, is there a product that includes both minoxidil and tretinoin? or do you use 2 separate products? can you include the names of such products please? Thank you!
@@softbee8265 I don't know if such a product exists on the market. I get it from a compounding pharmacy for pretty cheap where I live (Brazil). If you are interested in doing that, this is the formula I developed based on my research: - 20% glycerin - 10% oleic acid - 10% ethanol - 10% castor oil - 10% rosemary oil - 5% minoxidil - 5% aloe vera - 2% ketoconazole - 0.75% adenosine - 0.5% dutasteride - 0.1% tretinoin - 0.1% saw palmetto - Rest of water (26.55%) Not all of these are necessary, but they will help with androgenetic alopecia even further, especially dutasteride, based on the most up to date research the amount of it that goes systemic isn't enough to get you any side effects, and it still works. I have confirmed this evidence anecdotally too on my brother that gets ed on finasteride and dutasteride orally, but not from this formulation.
How do u get clear glowing skin on the face? Cucumbers on the face? Carrots? Do you get dark rings around the eyes with oral as you do with topical? What is the minimum effective dose with max results and absence of side effects?
I have been on 2.5 mg of oral minoxidil + 1 mg of finasteride and all was well (including the results) until just the other day when exercising I suddenly lost my breath and energy. I have never experienced anything like that before. I have spent the last two days sick with a weird pressure in my chest and a headache and dark circles and bags under my eyes. Today I am finally feeling better. What do I do? When I am recovered I will take a half-dose daily and see how it goes.
Combine 5mg per day of minoxidil and .5mg of dutasteride per day and you’re on the best protocol available to date. That’s what I’m on and I’m getting decent results. I was pretty far gone so I had a lot to make up

great video, thanks for sharing! 2 questions maybe you can talk about: 1.] efficacy of sublingual vs oral (literally at 16 weeks of one year of 2.5mg minoxidil tab - but i have been putting it under my tongue till completely absorbed with out swallowing, also doing same with 1mg finasteride tab - avg about 15mins a tab). 2.] Caffeine as a dht blocker; been stacking that with the tabs for 14 weeks. the pure caffeine is mixed with purified water at 5mg/100ml (or 0.05mg/ml for daily use). very easy and extremely cheap to do yourself. the research (nih, etc.) i have read says it is highly absorbed directly at the follicle and is a substantial dht blocker with no noticeable systemic effects. been caffeine free for a couple of decades and have had no systemic effects. (aware there are shampoos but don't shampoo every day and doing topical is a quick couple of minutes once a day).

The thing you should be aware of... i started oral Minoxidil after being on topical for 7 months which helped bit caused some irritations, ia had a what a huve shed for slightly longer than 3 and a half months, which made my hair so thin my scalp was shinning trought, but... afer a few more months i gotta say everything went better than expected im still yet to see the full benefits to my thickness but overall i see a lot of good results
I've been taking it in earnest for three months now after I read the article in the New York Times last year... I've seen some improvement I am yet to see the marvelous effects, my dermatologist says it will take at least 6 months but I am happy. I however have noticed when I take it I wake up with less anxiety and the days çi forget to take it I wake up more anxious which makes me wonder if my anxiety has something to do with my heart? Could also stack topical minoxidil with tretinoin and derma rolling. Both individually has shown to help non responders so use all three. Since the effectiveness is higher, lower doses can be used and thus lower side effects from minox.
@@usamasyed Just thought of this. What if the derma rolling could signal the oral minoxidil where to go? Perhaps tret could work this way, but I think tret combines with minox to make something else that's more potent. At first glance, using tret and oral minox would not do anything. But derma rolling plus oral minox sounds interesting.
Hi, is there a product that includes both minoxidil and tretinoin? or do you use 2 separate products? can you include the names of such products please? Thank you!
@softbee8265 I believe its possible but rare to find both together. I haven't used such a product. Tret is usually by prescription, but retinol (a step behind in the conversion process) can be used. I've used Kirkland liquid minox and cerave retinol light blue. Currently using Davv Hair Serum foam minox and a generic amazon retinol serum. Foam is more water based and can take the shape of a beard away after blowing drying. So I have to do a touch up blow dry for 30 seconds to reshape my longer beard (not ideal but FYI). Apply tret/retinol first then minox. Apply half the amount of minox as the suggested amount is for the entire head. The head surface is much greater than the beard area. I apply it morning, night, morning then skip night. The skip I do the derma rolling and apply retinol only.
Perfectly produced video. Pretty sure I'm in love with this Doctor after watching this. Now , as for Minoxidil oral.. What is the recommended dose for men? I'm reading conflicting reports that suggest 1mg is not enough and it needs to be more like 5mg oral for men. Dr Usama thoughts?
I would suggest taking the recommended dose a few times a week and increasing or decreasing depending on the side effects, coming from someone who reacted poorly to finasteride (temporary ED) and got satisfactory results by reducing my dosage.
One week ago, I began using oral Minoxidil 2.5mg daily. I am increasing my dosage to 5mg. I am also using Dutasteride 0.5mg daily and applying topical Minoxidil every night. I use a 05mm derma roller once every week. I will post an update in three months. I am a Norwood 6.

I read everywhere on Reddit that people have massive sheds of hair, after starting oral minoxidil. Also, it’s not working for everyone. Some are hyper responders and some non responders. Technically you could be a non responder and have that massive shed -resulting in being off worse than you were before.
Reddit reports edge cases in many scenarios, but large scale clinical trials and real world clinical experience represents population wide results. In none of these trials/studies has 'massive shedding' been a reported side effect that has led anyone to stop the treatment.
I experienced a lot of hair shedding when I first started on oral minoxidil. It lasted about 2-4 weeks. However, once the phase is over, your hair does get thicker. I would say it's like Accutane, it gets worse before it gets better.
All that extra body hair would be a very unwelcome side effect for many, myself included since I'm already hairy. Dr Linkov just posted a video about some LEGIT NEW hair loss treatments that look extremely promising and will go to market soon. Can you review those?

Thank you doctor, what do you think about using topical minoxidil, plus oral minoxidil, at a dose of 2.5 mg, instead of increasing the dose to 5 mg orally? And does the oral minoxidil affect the entire scalp, or more the upper part?
I personally would wait for oral minoxidil to be approved by the FDA for hair loss first, maybe even for over the counter use like topical minoxidil (so researchers need to get moving on official clinical studies to get FDA approval). Though, both have the unfortunate but common requirement that you have to keep taking the medication as maintenance. This is an unfortunate reality for many medications, like anti-depressants (which I take). In an ideal world, a treatment would be able to cure an ailment or alleviate the ailment for a significantly long period of time after the course of treatment is complete, but we don't have that ideal (at least not in the present day, who knows about the future), and many treatments merely control an ailment and require continuing treatment for maintenance. As a male bodied person who would really like to have less hair on my body (I have way too much, but shaving is too short term and uncomfortable, and waxing is too expensive and painful especially for only 3 to 6 weeks), I would be nervous about that increased body and facial hair growth side effect. I personally avoid laser hair removal and electrolysis as options due to their cost and their permanence (I know laser is not permanent hair removal, just permanent hair reduction), because as someone who is gender fluid I never know if, when, or where I may or may not want to regrow hair, and I have always had an aversion to things that are permanent and irreversible (now if only dermatologists could invent a hair removal method that is permanent, or semi-permanent, or very long lasting, but also reversible, cheap, quick, available for home self-use, and painless or nearly painless, that would be great). I wonder if oral minoxidil would be helpful to reverse permanent or semi-permanent hair removal methods for those who have regret or simply want to regrow hair they have removed before.
I wouldn't trust anything the FDA does or says. It supports Big Pharma. Dangerous opiate drugs like Oxycontin and Fentanyl have been approved by the FDA, but those drugs have also been responsible for thousands of deaths. Meanwhile, the FDA has been trying to ban Kratom, a natural, safe herb that people use to come off of dangerous opiates. Just because something is approved by the FDA doesn't mean it's safe.
I have been taking oral minoxidil 2.5 mg for just under 4 months now. In the first months I could notice changes. My hair became thicker and felt fuller. Small hairs have also grown on the temples and above the eyebrows, which I can classify as side effects. Since about 2 weeks my hair starts to stand out again and my hair becomes thinner again. Is this now the shedding or does Minoxidil simply not work for me? I am the first in our family to have such thin hair. My hair on the top of my head and on the sides is thin, but I am not balding, but it could move in that direction if it continues. At my last visit to the doctor, the doctor really wanted to sell me the PRP treatment, which costs 300€ per session. Furthermore, Minoxidil in oral form costs 120€ for 100 tablets here in Germany. I do not know what to do. Maybe you have seen similar developments in your patients.

I personally wouldn't use it because I already have a decent amount of body hair. I crush 3 finasteride tablets (high dose 5mg version) and dissolve and filter it in 100ml minoxidil solution. I combine this with 0,5mg finasteride oral per day and so far my hairline has been stable for the last few years.

I was using topical 5 percent minoxidil twice daily (androgenic alopecia) for about 15 or 20 years with LOTS of success, but then it seemed to stop working as well. It still worked, but not as much hair growth and fullness as before. Is it common for the topical to stop working after 15 or 20 years? Or could it have been the fact that I am older (57 years old)?
My topical stopped working after about 4 years and I recently switched to oral minoxidil …. It’s only been 3 weeks and no side effects so far! Hope it works tho🙏🙏. I'm in my 50s now and my hair is starting to recede. I'm now very interested in obtaining oral minoxidil but does it only work around the crown? The reason for asking is because many years ago when I started to get paranoid because I noticed my hairline was slightly getting thinner, I looked into the topical minoxidil but many said that if it worked, it would only be generally around the crown. I'd really appreciate anybody sharing their experience with this and let me know if they've found using it worth it.
Oral minoxidil caused me to have a lot of water retention. So much so I had to discontinue after two months, which was the worst because I lost all that hair during the shedding but didn’t get any of the benefits. Be very careful with oral minoxidil.
typically it's a tablet a day, 1.25mg oral minoxidil, and the benefit will last while you take it. We don't have long-term efficacy data yet because we've only been doing it for a few years.
I wonder if using oral minoxidil for a year or two until I'm satisfied with the results, then switching to topical minoxidil or Procapil for maintenance, would it be effective? Will it preserve the hair I grow from the oral tablets?
Dear Doctor, I have been diagnosed with FPHL grade 2 and I have been on oral finasteride 2.5mg (for 1 year) and oral Minoxidil (started with 0.0625 for 2 weeks, 1.25 for 2 weeks and 2.5mg for 9.5 months). I have seen increased hair shedding for about 8 months, and it continues. (At the same time as I started full dose Minoxidil ie. 2.5mg, I got A cell PRP also done). Will the hair shedding EVER reduce or stop? Will increasing or reducing the dose of Minodixil help to reduce hair shedding? Is the hair shedding seen with Minodixil use proportional to the dose? So far I have had no side effects from Minodixil with 2.5mg for 9 months. Actually, my hair fell out with the bulbs and clogged the drain. Even before I started the treatment it used to come out in clumps. I read that if the hair come out in clumps it cannot be andogenetic alopecia or FPHL. When I asked my doctor he said that it could also have a component of Telogen Effluvium. Pls, advice what should I do?
Add Tretionin and topical Minoxidil to your routine and for sure microneedling 1/w (24h before applying the Minoxidil). Don't forget that vitamin D for hair growth should be double the recommended minimum amount in your blood. Good luck.
Are there any interactions that could reduce the effectiveness of oral minoxidil? I’ve tried it before, and the topical version works much better for me.
I am using topical minoxidil (5%) for my excessive shedding for two years now without success..:( can I expect a better effect of the oral version or could it be that I am a non responder ? (Diagnosis is AGA)
I don't make any specific recommendations, it's best to discuss with your own doctor. But the most commonly studied protocol at the moment is 1.25mg orally daily.
More and more new data emerging such that more providers are now acknowledging the efficacy of this. Like I said in the video, I’ve been experimenting with this for 5 years with patients, but I think it’s ready for mainstream now (which it definitely isn’t yet)
Thanks a lot doctor, Could you also tell us what is the low does as per your experience. Asking this because there are many people who would go to buy oral minoxidil now with or without checking with a proper doctor or may be misled to use a higher does of minoxidil as safe does, so, if you can give your opinion stating any higher then this many mg a day is bad then we would know where to stop no matter what.

If you are interested in doing that, this is the formula I developed based on my research:
- 20% glycerin
- 10% oleic acid
- 10% ethanol
- 10% castor oil
- 10% rosemary oil
- 5% minoxidil
- 5% aloe vera
- 2% ketoconazole
- 0.75% adenosine
- 0.5% dutasteride
- 0.1% tretinoin
- 0.1% saw palmetto
- Rest of water (26.55%)
Not all of these are necessary, but they will help with androgenetic alopecia even further, especially dutasteride, based on the most up to date research the amount of it that goes systemic isn't enough to get you any side effects, and it still works.
I have confirmed this evidence anecdotally too on my brother that gets ed on finasteride and dutasteride orally, but not from this formulation.

For how long have you been taking it?

Combine 5mg per day of minoxidil and .5mg of dutasteride per day and you’re on the best protocol available to date. That’s what I’m on and I’m getting decent results. I was pretty far gone so I had a lot to make up
Hopefully youre still seeing gains.
@@danceswithcomicbooks7733 eh. It’s hard to tell. I try and look at old pictures to remind myself where I was a year ago. That usually drives the point home that there has been good progress. I’ve heard people still continuing to get results after 2 or more years. It’s only been a year for me so hopefully it still gets thicker
great video, thanks for sharing!

I have been taking oral minoxidil 5mg and 5mg finasteride for two years with good results.
(astounded emoji)
Lovely video as always! Thanks!
6-9 months is usually a good window to see improvement! There are also options to increase the dose that you can discuss with your provider if the starter dose isn’t doing the trick

Could also stack topical minoxidil with tretinoin and derma rolling. Both individually has shown to help non responders so use all three. Since the effectiveness is higher, lower doses can be used and thus lower side effects from minox.
Yep!
Derma rolling will ruin your scalp if you want a hair transplant
Perfectly produced video. Pretty sure I'm in love with this Doctor after watching this. Now , as for Minoxidil oral.. What is the recommended dose for men? I'm reading conflicting reports that suggest 1mg is not enough and it needs to be more like 5mg oral for men. Dr Usama thoughts?
i take the 5mg, it works good!

Thank you for this video! Can you do a video on low light laser light therapies for hair loss?
I read everywhere on Reddit that people have massive sheds of hair, after starting oral minoxidil. Also, it’s not working for everyone. Some are hyper responders and some non responders. Technically you could be a non responder and have that massive shed -resulting in being off worse than you were before.
Reddit reports edge cases in many scenarios, but large scale clinical trials and real world clinical experience represents population wide results. In none of these trials/studies has 'massive shedding' been a reported side effect that has led anyone to stop the treatment.
Not sure about oral, but wit topical you are supposed to shed first and then it will grow
I experienced a lot of hair shedding when I first started on oral minoxidil. It lasted about 2-4 weeks. However, once the phase is over, your hair does get thicker. I would say it's like Accutane, it gets worse before it gets better.
Reddit attracts a peculiar subset, one that is hardly representative of the entire population of oral minoxidil users.
That sounds incredibly contradictory. Surely a non responder wouldn’t have the effect of shedding in the first place?
I take dutasteride and oral minoxidil. AMAZING results. From nw 5-6 to nw 1-2 ❤
What’s your dosage for the dutasteride? I’m on it 3x per week right now

Unfortunately it gives me chest pain even in half dose of 2.5 mg, after using for 5 months i quit it .😊
I personally would wait for oral minoxidil to be approved by the FDA for hair loss first, maybe even for over the counter use like topical minoxidil (so researchers need to get moving on official clinical studies to get FDA approval).
But how can I get someone to prescribe it? I live with telogen effluvium. So frustrating.
Find a local dermatologist who’s willing to prescribe it!
Me too. Going on over a year now. Might try this or PRP.
When I started topical minoxidil, my hair started shedding more and then got better.. Maybe it's same with oral one

I'm in my 50s now and my hair is starting to recede. I'm now very interested in obtaining oral minoxidil but does it only work around the crown? Dear Doctor,
I have been diagnosed with FPHL grade 2 and I have been on oral finasteride 2.5mg (for 1 year) and oral Minoxidil (started with 0.0625 for 2 weeks, 1.25 for 2 weeks and 2.5mg for 9.5 months).

Hi Dr Usama, what dosage of oral minoxidil would you recommend for hair loss?
I don't make any specific recommendations, it's best to discuss with your own doctor. But the most commonly studied protocol at the moment is 1.25mg orally daily.
Whats a good brand of oral minoxidil?
This video is 3h old but I’ve been taking oral minoxidil with medical prescription for hair loss over a year ago.
I don’t get it.
What’s really new?
More and more new data emerging such that more providers are now acknowledging the efficacy of this. Like I said in the video, I’ve been experimenting with this for 5 years with patients, but I think it’s ready for mainstream now (which it definitely isn’t yet)
And did you make any progress ??
Thanks a lot doctor, Could you also tell us what is the low does as per your experience. Asking this because there are many people who would go to buy oral minoxidil now with or without checking with a proper doctor or may be misled to use a higher does of minoxidil as safe does, so, if you can give your opinion stating any higher then this many mg a day is bad then we would know where to stop no matter what.
Generally most studies begin with 1.25mg per day, but always discuss with your own doctor etc.
