    This scene is even more amazing when you realize that to Anubis, this is the second time he got to watch Daniel figure it out. As far as he is concerned, he gets to enjoy Daniels misery twice at realizing the truth. To Daniel, it is the moment he realizes he was shut down for standing against a monster, and having his memory wiped as a consequence.

      Daniel probably doesn't have his full ascended knowledge buried in him, it would be too much for him to handle even hidden away like that. Oma probably wiped the primary bits the Others would find threatening, or which would overwhelm Daniel's mortal form, but left him everything she reasonably could, giving him a chance to use it in mortal form or use as a springboard to reascend if the opportunity arose.

    Clues to his identity:
    Jim wears a dark suit, where everyone else is wearing lighter colors.
    The only people who speak to Daniel are him and Oma.
    He taunts Daniel, showing him the terrible things happening in the paper, knowing he can't help.
    He acts like a jerk to Oma, always wanting her to serve him coffee, like how a goa'uld wants to be served.
    When Daniel asked him to do something to stop Anubis, he hesitates before coming up with an excuse.
    He is always coming and going from the diner, showing that he is not all there.
    He knew Anubis's history on how he tricked Oma into helping him ascend.
    This was the final clue to put it together.

      In all fairness the diner was likely just a construct that appeared differently to each person viewing it, Daniel saw it as a diner, he saw Oma as a waitress, some of the other ascended as customers and one nosey ascendee as Jim/Anubis. In Daniel's mind Jim was just an ascendee who wasn't afraid to talk to him - the biggest question is why Daniel did not talk more with Jim. Oma clearly wasn't willing to be straight with him so really he should have spoke to Jim and asked him some questions, instead Daniel pretty much ignores Jim despite the fact Jim is the only other ascended being in the construct who was willing to interact with him. That's the big plot hole in the episode - Daniel is basically locked in a cell with two other people, one is talkative and the other is silent yet Daniel keeps trying to talk to the silent one.

    • @Croftice1
      @Croftice1 Год назад +3

      @@krashd Obviously Oma was the one Daniel knew better, he just met Jim, so out of two people, would you talk to a total stranger to get info on stuff you think is important, or would you rather try to come through with the person you at least know a little bit? That's the thing here. He knew, who Oma is, the Ancient, who helped him more than once. What did this stranger do for him? They just met and talked a few words.

One shoulder down, the other up, but both back. Where his shoulders meeting his arms are pointed. His arms draped diagonal but not mirroring each other. Lastly his head is only slightly leaning forward.
    That the creators gave him the welcoming, almost understanding, false personality at first was brilliant, because from that scene forward with the friendly face dropped, and the realization that it had all been an act to cause sadistic misery, the appearance he took on with this posture he looks and feels like a modern day depiction of the devil.

    I miss the Goa'uld. There was so much variety in the different system lords, that it made the show more interesting. Seeing new societies, and how they were affected by & dealt with the Goa'uld made for good suspense, each week. While I liked the storylines about the Ancients, ascension, and ascension politics, maybe, they should have used more restraint in letting Earth defeat their enemies. They ended up needing bigger baddies to fill in the gaps each time.
    You ended up with single baddie forces threatening the entire galaxy each season & needing new Space McGuffins to defeat them & far less variety than they originally had. With many of the good forces being killed off too, they started limiting the places they could go with the stories. FORTUNATELY, the writers were talented & they still managed to keep things interesting to the end. I don't know where you can go, after defeating the ultimate, ultimate, baddie, (Ori ) but if they can do it, I'll take a gander at it. I wouldn't mind a parallel Earth reboot. The funniest thing about this is “Jim” is, in all likelihood, what Anubis (or more accurately his host) looked like when he ascended. I know there’s no direct evidence of that, but given how Oma still looked like Oma in Daniels coffee shop, it’d make sense.

  • @Flufux
    @Flufux 3 года назад +34

    I like to think that Jim is based on Anubis' host when he originally ascended. Though that begs the question...did Anubis ascend with his host or just have the snake creature float away from his body leaving the human behind?

    • @KoflerDavid
      @KoflerDavid 6 месяцев назад

      Either they somehow merged (could totally see it happen if the host of a Goa'Uld was just as wicked as the Goa'Uld itself), or Oma Desala separated them and enabled the host to walk away free and the Goa'Uld to ascend.

      But the Ori only found a way into the milky way because of Daniel and Vala getting to the ori in the first place. The ancient hid the existence of the humans in the milky way from the ori. That's why they never went there for thousands of years. So if Anubis succeeded Daniel would never went to the Ori and the Ori never went to the milky way.

Meanwhile he draws out the most aggressive side of Daniel. Excellent character balance here and makes you want to more of their interplay from his ascended days.

    What fascinates me in this scene is how good Anubis is at impersonating an Earth human (I know he was pretending to be an Ancient here but he does act like a human), despite never inhabiting a modern Tauri. Other than Baal, no other Goa'uld could pull this off. You can't imagine Ra or Apophis acting like this. This shows that like Baal, Anubis studied humanity and showed interest in human culture.
