I saw your explantion, and you're right. It was one of those deals where the guitar player landed on the wrong chord, and stuck with it. He either was unable to hear himself - or was just too nervous and inflexible to get out of it. Note to The Fray: Here's Bill Walsh's saying, 'Take care of the details, and the details will take care of the game' - or in this case - the music.' (BTW, Thelonius Monk could have found a way to make that chord work - somewhere else.
I like The Fray. I don't mind artistic interpretations of The Anthem. What I'm concerned about is how much rehearsal they didn't do. Tighten up your act, Fray.
You nailed it, Jim. I put it right down there with Roseanne's version. These guys suck at playing their own material and they've proved that they certainly can't do a "classic cover"
I've heard a lot of bad renditions of songs before, but that sounded like a hipster raping the National Anthem with stolen guitar riffs from Queensryche "Silent Lucidity".
Rome is right, anybody who screws up the National Anthem ought to spend a day in jail. We don't need special versions of it. The words "free" and "brave" seem to be the two words many singers screw up. The person approving these renditions to be sung can spend a day in jail too.
That did sound like something from a coffee house. But The Fray are far from hipsters. Well, maybe now, but in the late 2000's, they were a second rate Coldplay.

This is the exactly perfect reflection of my opinion as well. I did a video explanation and demonstration of this on my RUclips channel.
If I'm the manager of that coffee house I'm gonna blow up that coffee house.

Why can't they just play Marvin Gaye's version of the anthem? That ruled.
At least he remembered the words. 😆
Lmfaooooooooooooo
What’s sad is the vocals actually aren’t bad at all but that guitar completely ruined it
The guitarist clearly frets the wrong notes a few times and plays wrong notes that sound awful
rockets red glare
AHAAAAA GOD BLESS THE UNITED SHSSHAAAATESHSH OF AMERICA
Still better than Carl Lewis.
"I'll Make up for it Now"...

War Global Warming..
sounded pretty cool from what i could hear...better than most
it wasn't good.. but if the guitar playing was more like the actual national anthem it wouldn't have been that bad
First
That was a really, really bad national anthem.
