In order save more money, can’t you use the original BB and crank and simply place the new narrow wide chainring in the middle slot? In theory shouldn’t that provide a good chain line?

Yes this would definitely work. In my case I bought frame only (with the odd part) but no BB and crank.

@@iklein81 It’s a good point though. And why I’d say when possible buy complete and reuse as much as you can.
I’ve used the middle position on a triple and it does align you Bob on in the middle of the rear cassette, or bang on for a single speed.
