That's why Dusty Baker stuck with Maldonado despite not contributing much at bat. As far as catching runners Maldonado is as good as it gets.

Unappreciated aspect of all this is how quickly Tucker got over to field that single and prevent it from being a double, which it could've been with many other rightfielders playing it. If Tucker didn't react so well and this hit became a double, then the strike 'em out throw 'em out double play would never have happened and the inning (and game) might've turned out quite differently. Go Stros.

Carlos recognized it and immediately gave him props in the outfield for the great play. Real baseball fans noticed it. The commentators had to check with their producers & see if they could talk nice about the Astros lol.

@@downtempo9263 I wasnt watching game live (darn not having FS1 on my cable, but at least all WS games are available on regular Fox channel) so didn't see Carlos, who has beyond doubt become the team leader on the field. If Stros don't re-sign him he'll sure be missed next year, as much for his leadership as well as for his clutch onfield abilities. Go Stros.

The announcers can go on and on about the runner's bad lead off from first base but this was purely on the laser throw from Maldonado.

What they don’t talk about is how gravemen threw to first before that pitch. So the runner was already thinking about another pickoff. Smart move to keep them closer to the bag
