@MTS 3 baby The Catholic Church didn't. The Apostles made this change very early. From the very beginning, Christians gathered on Sunday (ie the Lord's Day) to celebrate His Resurrection. While early Christians continued to gather in the Temple and Synagogues for prayer services on Saturdays, they gathered in their homes to share the Eucharist on Sundays. The Apostles transferred the dignity of the Sabbath to Sunday in order to reflect this.
@MTS 3 baby This has nothing to do with either the Pope or Catholicism, let alone one world religion. Jesus rested in the tomb on the Sabbath, thus fulfilling it. And since before the New Testament was even written down, His followers have been honoring Him on Sunday: the day of His Resurrection.
@MTS 3 baby The Lord rose on Sunday, which has been the universal witness of the Church since the beginning. The Jewish Sabbath is Saturday. As I said, the Apostle transferred the dignity of the Sabbath to Sunday because of the Resurrection. Constantine didn't make that change; Sunday worship goes back to the Apostles. John even mentions "the Lord's Day" in Revelation 1:10. He was "in the spirit on the Lord's Day" because that was the day of Christian worship. Your analysis is based on the English language (Sun-Day), which didn't even exist when Constantine was alive. The Greek word for Sunday is Kyriaki, which means "Lord's Day."
@MTS 3 baby Stop bringing up the Pope. I'm not Catholic. This has nothing to do with Catholicism. Can you provide a reputable historical source that shows that "Constantine changed the Sabbath to Sunday?" Because if you look at the Didache (which is the earliest document of Church government that we have, and dates to the 1st century), Christians gather on the Lord's Day (ie, Sunday). Paul didn't change the Sabbath. Christians were already worshipping on Sunday before Paul even became a Christian.
@MTS 3 baby The first Pope is not Constantine. I don't even know how to respond to such a ludicrous assertion. Constantine was the Roman Emperor. He was never Bishop of Rome. No no, you don't get to parrot imagined memes and then tell me to "pick up a book." Provide a reputable historical source for "Constantine being the first pope," or your assertions about the Sabbath. I pointed you to a 1st century document about Sunday worship. And I pointed you to Scripture regarding Sunday worship. If you'd like more, consider Acts 2:46: "So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house..." The first Christians prayed in the Temple on Saturday. And they assembled for the Eucharist on Sunday. Which I already mentioned above.
I am so grateful that these videos are still up. Steve and Christian, God has certainly given you a wonderful gift in teaching and I sincerely appreciate it
Thank you and have a blessed day. I appreciate ALL of your videos. I have learned so much from your videos. I live in an orthodox desert in Oklahoma. You really help me continue on my Orthodox path.
I'm sorry to hear that! God willing, as the Church grows, we'll plant new communities in new places. I hope you can at least get to a church sometimes!
@@abeljoshua170 Ah, that makes sense. I'm not super familiar with the history, but I think there are some historical connections that explain that calendar choice. I any event, God grant you good strength for the remainder of the Fast!
@@stevenchristoforou1667 I think it has a lot to do deal with the Calendar. From what I understand the Churches under the Syriac Malankara changed to Gregorian from Julian in the 1950s. I guess it has a lot to do with the Ecumenical World, the Churches here are among the founding members of WCC, CCA and other Ecumenical bodies.
The real reason the bible reading doesn't happen to coincide with icons on Icon Veneration Day is simply because there is no verse about venerating icons in the bible :/
