This is one of my favorite songs. Granted Thrice are just such brilliant writers and Dustin is such an amazing lyricist that I've said that about a lot of his songs over the years. xD They are just so talented and deep.

Thrice has been a mainstay of my life since high school (over 15 years) and i feel an incredible bond with them everytime there music plays.
Spectacular as always. I remember when I first found out about Thrice on a music video compilation CD I bought from a roadside stall around 2005 and there was a video of stare at the sun. At that time in India where I was born and brought up, we didn't have any idea that bands like this existed apart from some bands like The Used, Blink-182, Good Charlotte, Sum 41, Yellowcard and Story Of The Year which we found out about in such music video compilation CDs. My first direct contact was with Blink-182's "Enema Of The State" cassette which my elder brother gave it to me to listen to and it is the best gift that I ever got. We didn't have much access to such albums in plenty cause it becomes available in India after like 2 or 3 years of it's release but then again it was just a few bands which was accessible to us, and it was really hard to hunt for good music at those times for us. Then the Internet came and made things much more easier. Good times. Much love and support from India. ❤

This is their MO. Their B-side material easily rivals what they release, or downright puts it to shame.

Update and thoughts: Alright guys so this definitely has to have a connection to Circles off Beggars. In that song the lyrics go, "the scenery spins, we call it progress." The chorus is "we set sail with no fixed star in sight," which goes right along with the boat analogy of Dead Wake. Essentially, these are takes on the theme of coasting through life without regard for responsibilities. The writer "keeps spinning" and where they're going "doesn't matter." The lyrics "fingers coming through the grates beneath our feet" in verse 2 add an awesome, creepy note to the message.

I remember hearing them for the first time on a college radio station in 2002 and then using the fast internet connection in my girlfriend's dorm room to find a bunch more of their earlier stuff on napster, coulda been kazaa by that point but not sure. It's awesome they're still putting out stuff that sounds this good.

Another fine example of Thrice’s left over material being of as high a caliber as the album it was cut from. Any Thrice fan should chase down the E.P's that seem to follow the album cycles, like the Red Sky E.P, Sea Change, Deeper Wells, etc.
Only this is legit better than anything on Horizon's/East.

Mhm dont know, imo there are several songs with insane intensity on H/E: Summer Set Fire, Robot Soft Exorcism (!) and Dandelion Wine (absolute masterpiece imo!) come to mind :)

They might just have decided it didn't fit with the album as a whole, they did the same with flags of dawn on Vheissu. They like the track and play it live but they just felt like to them it didn't fit with the album as a whole for whatever reason
they worked on 40 songs during the initial sessions for “Horizons/East”. this was an idea that they came up with in the studio that hadn’t been fully turned into a song yet and it got left behind because it wasn’t finished. Over the course of the last year they’ve been slowly working on “Horizons/West” which will be out at the end of the year or early next year and this was finished up but they decided that it wasn’t for the new record and didn’t fit the story that they’re trying to tell with the next 12 songs to finish the double album. So we get it as a standalone track

Really? As an avid Thrice fan since Illusions of Safety, they seem to age like fine wine and whiskey. Perhaps it's because I'm getting older, too, but I felt like their last two albums were near perfect distillations of everything they've worked on since Vheissu.
I'm thankful they haven't stuck to their post-punk roots, as it would be feel tiresome and lame for gentlemen their age and pedigree.
