As a librarian who runs a digitization lab, I can say that we scan notebooks, journals, and correspondence from people who never thought they would last as long as they have. Some of these materials are just in a box in an attic and written in pencil. Brian's suggestions are good, especially keeping the humidity down. It's good to be proactive, but at the same time, even poorly stored paper is going to outlast most digital media storage.
From the perspective of a computer scientist, let me add that in many cases with digital media it is not the media itself that is damaged, but the drives needed to read that media and the interfaces to connect them to a computer become very rare. This means that you may still have the media, but be unable to "read" it. So I also think that paper is much more reliable long term.
@@BanzanShakuhachi Yea, digital media is constantly in a state of migration or transition. It's more accessible to more people, and that's why we digitize things. But overall, it's a constant churn to keep it preserved long term.
@@hanamarcetic5923 Any major university should have a digital collections department with hundreds if not thousands of correspondence, journals, etc. The Ivy League schools are going to probably have the oldest materials, just because of their historical presence as an Ivy League and because of their connections. Most digital collections are indexed on search engines, so looking up something general like, "1880s correspondence digital collection" is going to get you a lot of hits.
The Pencast is helping me to survive COVID. Been rewatching the old ones (from #1) coz I can't go out and do anything. Thank you for keeping me sane and entertained.
Well I am happy to see you guys, I thought it was gonna be another week without you guys. Missed you over the weekend, but will enjoy watching this Monday! Have a happy week!
Oh I get EVERY alert Drew! My life isnt complete without my pencast fix! Thanks for all the extra hard work that goes into providing us with some ‘mindless’ entertainment that cost you all so much of your time and effort. It is an HONOR to support the Goulet Pen company. Without all of the videos on this channel, my box of pens I got from my grandmothers estate would all still be sitting in a cardboard box and my obsession with pens would have stayed with the rollerball pen. Oh how little I knew the day I found that box of pens. Thanks guys, cause without you my grandmothers love of pens would have never been passed on to now what is her great great grandchildren that never knew her but now get to love fountain pens just like she did… all because 2 people opened a fountain pen store and decided to inform us. So I for one appreciate the deep dives Brian! Thanks for everything.
Yes we missed Fridays pencast but so glad its here now. Glad you like research Brian. So much for a paperless society. You guys are awesome!,,BLESSINGS
I was so happy to see this yesterday! I listen to the pencast on and off throughout my work day when I have tasks that are more tedious and don't need my absolute full attention. I'm still working from home, so you two are kind of like my work buddies I listen to.
When Goulet Pens had a promotion of green pens themed for St. Patrick's Day last March, I ordered the Kaweco Sport from you as a "purse pen." It fits perfectly in small handbags and shoulder bags and is always at the ready to jot a note, sign a paper or write something more substantial. I got a fine nib -- inspite of my preference for broad or stub nibs -- because you never know what quality of paper you'll be using on the go. Inked with a nice dark green ink, the pen writes a beautiful line anytime. It always starts, even when it hasn't been used in a week or so. And with a fine nib, a cartridge of ink lasts quite a while. To my delight, the nib & feed also NEVER, EVER leak into the cap despite all the jostling a traveling pen gets. Great small pen! Thank you for these Pencasts! They are an excellent source of pen knowledge (and more) and great entertainment. Laughter abounds!
International pen traveler here! My family did already have a trip to Italy planned, but not to Bassano del Grappa. We saw the announcement from Montegrappa that they were starting factory tours as of this spring, and jumped into action. We moved our flight to make sure we could be there on a Wednesday, the day they do tours, and booked our visit. It was such a blast! The two adults took the tour and asked a million pen questions. Then later our kids came with us to see the showroom too. The staff and leaders at Montegrappa made a hugely positive impression on us. I would go back, to be honest. Their high tech equipment and delicate art work all meld together into a fascinating ballet of pen masterwork. I splurged at the showroom and regret nothing. We also fell in love with Bassano del Grappa the town. The people are super friendly, biking and hiking is a big part of the culture, the food was super yummy, and we enjoyed all the summer festivities.
Brian, I am an artist with 40yrs experience. A "top coat" that can be applied without a residue or negative affects that I use with permanent ink is Spray Fixative. Note: do not spray close to the piece at least 6" away a light coat. Fixative works as a sealer. As you state always TEST first. However I draw everyday, and have decades of experience directly with ink, paper and the use of spray fixative. I hope this helps. Thank you for all you do, your pen casts are always a joy.
Thank you again for awesome content. I listened to the episode while building a deck - as a fun fact. Greetings from northern Finland. PS. I love how you are using metric numbers so comfortably.
I found you after I started my fountain pen journey. But based on your content that has been so informative that I plan to do most of my purchases from Goulet Pens.
Bought my first "next level" pen from your company after also purchasing my first Lamy Safari (love it). The next level pen? A Benu Talisman four-leaf clover. I adore it, simply stunning and writes as smooth as butter. Ethan went above and beyond to make sure I was 100% happy with everything, and could answer all my questions. Was a pleasure to talk to. This company and its employees are the best you'll find. Stellar, superb professionalism. I could not be happier, and will keep coming back. The Benu is ...heavenly. Now if I could only stop buying inks....
Thin merino wool is my fav for hot weather. It breathes and wicks sweat away from your skin, dries fast too. Cotton is nice until it’s soaked then… it’s the worst
I agree with you guys on the softness factor of the Kaweco AL Sport. I have the cappuccino and vibrant violet as well as the red carbon fiber. And I love them all! And hey Drew, I've never been a fan of brown pens, but the cappuccino AL Sport is just stunning. I have also lucked out with the nibs, all EF's that write well.
With regard to archiving journals, I would suggest checking which inks are likely to fade. Even without direct sunlight, there are fugitive pigments that don't hold their colour well.
That's so true! I was shocked to open a journal of mine just to find a Rohrer and Klinger ink that had been a nice purple had faded to a light pink. The paper wasn't the culprit, either. I'm glad I only wrote with it early in my fountain pen experiences!
Absolutely. some people in a german fountain pen forum did tests and some inks fade SO fast. some pigments are just not stable. baystate blue, for example. give it a few weeks in a sunny spot and you end up with a pale yellow smudge instead of ink.
That section about how to make my notebooks last a lifetime was interesting and important. Thank you. (I have watched so many episodes now and I like them all so far.)
Same Brian, I like clear grips and i cannot lie...you other grips can't deny. Im so excited and waiting impatiently for the TWSBI ECO glow in the dark.
Thank you so much for answering my question :) Just to clarify why I described Brian as 'concise'... it's because there are loads of FP enthusiasts who make similar topic videos but 50% of the vid content are usually irrelevant info whereas I find that 95% of the things that Brian teaches us is relevant info. As for more support, I think monetization is fine, I personally don't mind ads at all. RUclips channel memberships... I think they take 30% or something so maybe Patreon might be better or somewhere where if we donate, the full amount goes towards The Goulet Pen Company and no other party.
You guys are awesome! Thanks for another amazing pencast! The only videos that I record and save every one… that way I can visit with ya’ll anytime I want! Enjoy your week, until the next show….
I bought the Kaweco AL Sport Anthracite mainly just to have that square checked, thinking I might end up giving it away or even selling it. But once I felt its coating I knew I wanted to keep it. It's so satisfying.
they make linen and merino tee shirts. no buttons necessary. merino is very breathable and good in hot weather if its thin (also good for sun protection)
Drew being fired up over light fixtures ! Such a wonderful real life moment ! No one likes doing it but the new fixture usually makes huge differences !
Hey, for outdoor fabrics: synthetics and wool are actually pretty great for moving moisture away from your skin, but Drew is right about linen. You don't have to wear a button-up shirt to wear linen, though! I have a couple of linen t-shirts from J. Crew, and I know there are other companies who make them as well. Look into hemp, too. There are some great hemp t-shirts out there. Linen and hemp have very similar properties, and they are definitely cooler and quicker to dry than cotton.
P.S. Synthetic fabrics are not all the same, though. Synthetic fabrics that are made for use as hiking or athletic clothing don't behave the same as, like, a 1970s-era polyester leisure suit.
Those dry packs contain silica gel beads - work great. A lot of products come packaged with a little pack (often look a bit like salt or sugar packets and say "do not eat") which you can collect and toss into your paper storage device. We collected the beads from a bunch of them when I was a kid so we could dry flowers for a craft project (silica beads weren't available to purchase in our rural area).
The beads eventually saturate with water but can be recharged by baking in the oven at a very low temp (outside of the packet). I bought a large jug with indicator dye on Amazon for keeping my 3d printing filament dry.
Great video with lots of knowledge as usual guys. My favorite Robert Oster is Morning Shine...perfect green shimmer! As for the book, would only read the future if I could change it for the better.
Enjoyed the discussion on archiving paper. I agree with Brian on the benefits of a digital backup. One simple solution I use is to shoot a video and slowly turn my journal pages. You can pause on each page. It's not the highest quality, but it is readable and I know if one of my journals gets destroyed, I will be able to read what I wrote.
Drew, I live in Japan and I can tell you that at least in some of the documents I've seen online the new Platinum pen is called "3776 Century Decade" (in Japanese), so no opportunity for confusion was missed over here :-) By the way, I don't live in Tokyo, but I can confirm that it is a sort of "pen paradise" and sometime I travel there to go through shops like Itoya or Maruzen, or even more exciting to attend events organized by Nakaya! I was very happy to hear that you are considering visiting Tokyo at some point in the future, and even if it is a remote future I would still be very glad to welcome you.
@@Sonicman415 By all means, if you have the opportunity to visit Tokyo again I highly recommend you put some of the mentioned shops on your list. I'm not so much into paper myself, but I can assure you that in addition to pens and inks you can find all sorts of interesting paper here.
thanks for this well timed publishing of the Pencast! a lot of household chores are waiting for me and you guys are so helpful to get me through all of it :D thanks!
Yay, pencast! 🥳 Re: hypothetical, if I'm feeling stuck (ex: large decision-making or at a crossroads), I would skim ahead to see if I could find the outcome of that particular situation. Even if I couldn't change the outcome, I could prepare myself accordingly.
QUESTION: how do you store your inks? I have lots and I am having trouble keeping up with them. Might you do a video on ink storage? Perhaps you could ask your viewers to send in samples.
@Talespinner Well. I just keep them in a small tote bag in the original ink box and store them in a cool place out if the sun . You could place them in a desk drawer. Just make sure you tighten the ink bottle cap so they don't leak. PS . I have 10 bottles. I have given some away to people who like fountain pens. Otherwise I will not be able to finish my ink collection since I don't really write a lot .maybe a page
@@genelo6890 Oh honey that's so sweet. Ten bottles. Try almost a hundred full sized bottles and more than a hundred samples. (I'd be ashamed to admit to so much ink but there are lurkers here that hoard even more than I do; I will not be convicted by a jury of my peers LOL).
I think your pricing is fair and makes a lot of sense. I just wish the threshold for free shipping was a tiny bit lower. I can't spend that much every time I need more ink etc ❤️ Love you guys, love your energy and the info you toss our way!
Drew, I know *exactly* what you're talking about with that texture on the AL-Sport. The word that sprung to mind when I first got one was 'velvety,' which seems like an odd way to describe metal, but there's just something about it gives that tactile impression of soft fabric, irrespective of the way it looks. Love, love, love Robert Oster Violet Clouds & Violet Dreams, as well as their non-shimmer Viola from the signature collection, Dusky Pink, Cosmic Swirl, and Australian Opal Mauve. I'd really like to try more of their greens and blues, but so far I haven't made it out of the pink/purple zone.
I am running a bit behind and it's great to catch up! I found the archival notebook deep dive fascinating. There are so many factors involved I had no idea.
Missed you guys on the weekend. I was pleasantly surprised to find a mid-week update! Hypothetical for you: If you could have any pen in the world (free to you) to add to your collection, what would it be? Answers to Brian's questions: It cannot be sold by you or anyone else to use the money. It is purely for you to own and add to your collection. The creator of the pen will be paid asking price for it but you will not have to pay. It does have to be a real pen in existence - not an imaginary super-pen that you wish existed.
Many years ago I knew a grad student in art school who sprayed all her charcoal and water color pieces with clear aerosol fixative before turning them in. I wonder if that stuff might apply.
Hypothetical life book question - I would ABSOLUTELY read the book. In fact, once I figured out it was my life I would skip to the end right away, then go back and read current me future. I would love to be prepared for everything, all the time, it would eradicate so much of my anxiety.
Wonderful pencast - as usual! 95°? Oh, please! I spoke to my brother (in North Texas) last week; it was 115°. It was even upper 90s here last week, and AC is virtually non-existent. Working overhead is hard on anyone (perhaps those who do it all day every day get used to it). Our bodies are not made for that, and the muscles tire very quickly. You can get a rough conversion of square meters to square feet by multiplying by 10. But when you get into the big numbers Brian was talking about, the inaccuracies pile up and make a major difference. When I was growing up, we used the terms short ton (2,000 lbs) and long ton (metric ton (or tonne) 1,000 kg = about 2,200 lbs). You‘ve done it again. Kaweko has never interested me before, but now I‘m getting curious. I see new pens in my collection. Oh, yes - please, please, PLEASE don‘t start using advertising!! Interesting, but when Brian started talking about it, I immediately thought of Patreon. I would certainly contribute (especially to keep the videos ad-free). I would consider it absolutely legitimate to make this possible for people. For now, you‘ll have to be happy with my saying „Thank you!“ 😃
I held off on the Kaweco pocket pens because I prefer cartridge converters, but once I purchased a Skyline Sport for travel, I was totally won over. After a couple years the nib got scratchy, so I purchased a nib from the Goulet Pen Co and swapped it in, and now it's working great. I have several Sports now which include broad, double broad, and 1.1 stub nibs. I purchased the Vibrant Violet AL-Sport last year, and I know exactly what Drew means! It's not a super smooth aluminum finish like the Lamy Al-Star; it has more texture to the finish which makes it soothing in a very tactile way. It's one of my favorite fidgets as well as being a great pen! I have been seriously considering purchasing the Brass Sport or Steel Sport, with the understanding that they would be a little heftier and smoother to the touch. I think the design of these pens is amazing. Thanks for another great episode!
On Instagram when Drew said this episode would be delayed because Brian took so long to answer a question that the camera caught on fire, I thought he was serious for a moment. Brian is always very thorough with his answers as demonstrated in this episode, and cameras technically can overheat.
I find your hypothetical question here really fascinating because a lot of popular manga/manhwas deal with this exact issue in their plots. In these storylines, the main character often lives out their lives, then has some way of traveling back in time to before any major changes happen in their lives. An alternative is that the main character transmigrates into a book they read (passed away in the real world and their soul goes inside of a different body) as a side character/villain/etc. and are faced with the same issue: "Will what I do change the future that was written in the book/happened in my first life?" The stories each delve into the author's own answer to this question, but I always find this topic really fascinating. Very intriguing to find an intersection of completely different interests within a Pencast!
Oh man, the hypothetical reminded me of one of my favorite shows, Goblin: The Lonely and Great God. Part of the main storyline is that a woman is pursued by a reaper of souls because her mother was saved from a car accident while pregnant with her so she isn’t supposed to be alive in the present day. Melts your brain a bit but it’s a fantastic series if you don’t mind subtitles as it’s in Korean.
It certainly seems that you approach to content-creation has worked Brian. Goulet Pens is an international name in the fountain pen community and you are frequently cited on many videos and podcasts.
Like Brian, I like clear grips that show the nib and feed, it's fun to watch the ink spreading through the feed. I'm the type who likes to see how things work. Drew, I and a couple of people on RUclips are allies with you on the subjects of brown pens or inks and pants vs shorts. An Ink Guy on RUclips appears to also be a fan of brown inks. Myself and Kerry at Pens and Tea like brown pens, in my opinion they are very professional looking like black. I also think that brown pens look best with gold trim, often better than black. On the subject of pants vs shorts, pants all the way, in particular carpenter jeans for me. Useful pockets and protection for the legs. Also pants hide any cuts and scratches.
My parents kept important documents in a locked firebox, and they pulled out mildewed passports after letting everything sit during peak COVID. The suggestion of silica beads or whatever is definitely a good one!!
I LOVE Robert Oster inks. RO is my favorite company for "dryer" inks - and Summer Storm was my first and favorite ink he makes, but it really is hard to choose because there are so many beautiful colors to choose from. He does especially well with muted colors, which is another reason I love the selection. Sydney Lavender, Black Violet, Khakhi, and Honey Bee are other favorites of mine. I was happy to see this question. :)
Thanks Brian for another informative deep dive. Drew, could you include the pen you make notes with as part of the show? i.e. can you guess what pen or use it as the spotlighted pen for the week? Just a thought....I'm nosey and find myself trying to figure out what pen it is. lol Have a great week!🌻
Regarding the coating of paper etc.: I'm an artist and you usually wanna coat your artwork (especially acrylics) if you plan on exhibiting them, hanging them up in your house etc. It's main purpose is to protect the colors from UV rays so that they won't change after a few months or years.
Brian's question at the end re: if knowledge of the future meant you could change the future - I was laughing along with Brian seeing Drew getting a little wound up over the question. The way I see it, the book tells the future based on a formula of probabilities, so if you made a decision to act outside of your past patterns, then you could change the end. If you didn't read ahead, you'd probably just act as per the probabilities and the book wouldn't be changed. Of course a new decision could have worse consequences - so could you just continually update the end?? Whew - you'd never stop reading. It was still funny watching Drew get a little on edge, though. Thanks for these pencasts - they always put me in a good mood!
Question: As I carry my fountain pen wherever i go, i almost never get to use it on proper fountain pen friendly paper. What ink/nib combination is best for use on printer paper, note books, etc?
Yes, I feel your pain when it comes to horrible copier paper and notebooks. I try to use fine/ extra fine nib dry writing pens with any ink in my collection. You could use drier inks with no lubrication. I have trouble with medium nib and stub nib pens that just bleeds through to the back page of the paper with doesn't help where i can't write on both sides of the paper. I just do it by trial and error to see what pens don't show through the back page as i write.
@@genelo6890 Unfortunately I don’t have many options for ink in Cyprus. The only ink i can get locally is Parker Quink (which does the job, coincidentally) Everything else has to come from abroad… Diamine blue velvet is ok too. Both with Extra fine nib of course.
Not only does Jinhao make other colors of the dragon pen, they also make a leopard version. It’s not quite the same as it’s essentially just a leopard laying down. But it’s eyes are green jewels and the cap is pretty detailed. As you were talking about the dragon pen in the last episode, I said to myself I would absolutely get one if it was cats instead. Well, the leopard pen is close enough. So I got one. It’s super heavy and still obnoxious in its own right, but I love it. I currently have it inked with Pilot Iroshizuku Yama Budo. Which is a color I have been sleeping on and I’m so disappointed in myself. It’s lovely!
I love the Kaweco Sports but I had to search elsewhere to get the one I like the most and that is the AC Sport. The carbon fibre trim really sets it off. I was wondering why Goulet Pens doesn't carry these? I know they have a pretty hefty price tag for just a small pen but they are gorgeous.
I LOVE the new Kaküno, the demonstrator colors, the feel of the plastic, both very appealing. I own 3 of them, also they take a con 70, which I love. The nibs are lovely. Wishing they came in a 1.0 like the Metropolitan. I have a bevy of vintage ladies’ fountain pens. When I began collecting new pens, during the lock down, I bought an Edison Sonata w M nib and then I caved and bought a Lamy 2000 w a M nib, both from Goulet Pens. I love these pens to this day. Yes. Robert Oster Fire and Ice rocks. I love Go Go but it’s very dry, so needs a weeeet writing nib. Omg, the book… I would not read the book. I love your friendship, how you negotiate your differences and honor each other’s thoughts, and opinions. You remind me a bit of Car Talk, with the Tappert Bros.. no longer a thing, but you two getting on each other is pretty funny.
Brian`s deep dive are highly welcomed everytime! Actually this entire topic of fountainpens.. are deep dive for a writting instrument. So who ever is in FPs...they are quite prone to deep diving (more or less :) )
waaiit, That Century 3776 10th year anniversary edition is actually called Decade in Japan! Did Platinum forgot to tell Gouletpens? or is it intentional?
Brian's Hypothetical Question: I think the hang up was on the idea that the information was being learned from a physical book with printed pages which then would prompt a lot of qualifying questions, much as it did. When I think the crux of the question is; If you could know your own personal future, regardless of how the information was presented, and you have 100% certainty the information is accurate. Would you want that information? It sounds like you both lean toward the "Don't want to know". With the caveat Drew mentioned, IF the ability to change that future exists, then that could make a difference in the decision to ‘read ahead’. Personally, I think I would lean toward wanting to know regardless of the ability to change it or not. Knowing that the information of my future is available my curiosity would get the best of me. I may regret the knowledge and wish I hadn't "read ahead" using the book analogy, but I know me and I would likely do it.
Any chance of carrying the TWSBI Jr. Pagoda mechanical pencil? It's a great pencil, good balance and subtle grip and clip. The plastic has a great hand too just like their pens.
Can you point out any difference between the VP Red 2019 and the VP coral Red 2022? Looking forward to your response. Perhaps a short video will be appreciated thank you
Honest question- I have seen the brass Kaweco being promoted as new, but I have one I have had for quite a while. Did something change about the pen? It looks exactly the same to me. Am I missing something? Thank you!
Central Virginia is far away from any foreign country? It’s a 2 hour trip to Dulles Airport and from there you can go basically anywhere in Europe and North America non-stop! How many hours does it take to get to Frankfurt from Dulles? It took me 22 hours of flying (not including a 5 hour stopover in Dubai) to get to Frankfurt.
I think that if you were to start some kind of monetary support scheme I’d love to see a Goulet Pencast server on Discord so those of us who are regulars in the comment section can yammer on at leisure. Or maybe live chat during a Pencast if you set up a timed premiere on RUclips, that would be fun.
For archive purposes, there are data vaults made of ruggedized materials working with USB ports to accompany Goulet recommendations for paper management, and document storage. Good luck on those endeavours, and your source material may one day find its way in a futuristic museum.
Brian has never reminded me of Michael Scott more than when he jumbles two hypothetical questions together and makes it nonsensical without being able to recognize it. 🤣🤣
"What will happen can't be stopped. Aim for grace." -Ann Beattie I think I'd read the hypothetical book in order to fully appreciate and prepare as much as possible for what lies ahead. I mean, I know what's coming in a Goulet pen order, but it is still exciting to anticipate and prepare for receiving it!
I'm with Drew on not wanting to watch movie trailers! Most are major spoilers, especially the Marvel ones. Really happy to see this episode, thanks for powering through the tech difficulties!

I came here to say this also :) Spray fixative or nothing.
I was wondering about spray fixative, however I wondered if it could reconstitute the ink or not.
Thank you again for awesome content. I listened to the episode while building a deck - as a fun fact. Greetings from northern Finland. PS. I love how you are using metric numbers so comfortably.
Loved Brian's deep dive on saving notebooks for the long term !!! Great info. Thanks !!
Thank you so much for answering my question about making my notebooks last a lifetime! I really appreciate the deep dive. ☺️
I appreciated the deep dive too! Great question
I really want to get that one! What nib size did you go with?
@@yorkdox7 medium! I love it.
Thank you for all the fun and information!!! Enjoy the videos so much!
I hunted for the Light Blue AL sport for a while and when I got it I was blown away by how it felt, very unique aluminum feel
I support your RUclips channel by buying pens, ink and paper I don't really need.
Haha nothing better! - Drew
Yay! This is a great Monday, you were def missed on Friday 🥳🖋
Love Drew’s shirt! Lots of good info as always.
Haha! Thank you, Trisha! - Drew
Drew with the Corgi was WAY too amusing lmao
Love the face of discovery at 1:52:44
Drew, I live in Japan and I can tell you that at least in some of the documents I've seen online the new Platinum pen is called "3776 Century Decade" (in Japanese), so no opportunity for confusion was missed over here :-) By the way, I don't live in Tokyo, but I can confirm that it is a sort of "pen paradise" and sometime I travel there to go through shops like Itoya or Maruzen, or even more exciting to attend events organized by Nakaya! I was very happy to hear that you are considering visiting Tokyo at some point in the future, and even if it is a remote future I would still be very glad to welcome you.
I was in Tokyo for work, from USA, for 5 days. Loved it! I did not get time to look for pens or ink or paper.. sadly. I want to go again.
@@Sonicman415 By all means, if you have the opportunity to visit Tokyo again I highly recommend you put some of the mentioned shops on your list. I'm not so much into paper myself, but I can assure you that in addition to pens and inks you can find all sorts of interesting paper here.
The prairie-dogging corgi cracked me up! Thank you, Drew. I needed that laugh!
thanks for this well timed publishing of the Pencast! a lot of household chores are waiting for me and you guys are so helpful to get me through all of it :D thanks!
Happy to help, Lara! - Drew
Yay, pencast! 🥳
Re: hypothetical, if I'm feeling stuck (ex: large decision-making or at a crossroads), I would skim ahead to see if I could find the outcome of that particular situation. Even if I couldn't change the outcome, I could prepare myself accordingly.
QUESTION: how do you store your inks? I have lots and I am having trouble keeping up with them. Might you do a video on ink storage? Perhaps you could ask your viewers to send in samples.
@Talespinner
Well.
Decluttering all this ink would be the best way to get the inks manageable. But boy is that hard.
I think your pricing is fair and makes a lot of sense. I just wish the threshold for free shipping was a tiny bit lower. I can't spend that much every time I need more ink etc ❤️ Love you guys, love your energy and the info you toss our way!
I loved this deep dive into paper, and loved the subtle stifled yawn from Drew at 37:15. :)
As a paper science engineer, I was impressed at the depth of knowledge Brian had on the paper making process.
Yes! Thank you! :). - Drew
yes! velvety is a good word for it!
PINBALL!!!! LOVE that game! Its hard to find them anymore… oh how fortunate for you!
Yay, Turkey Hammock Zone. Love the pen cast!
Great show. Now ready for the weekend!
Wait....what?
“You decapitate your little creature” 😂 😂 😂
“I probably agreed without listening to what you were saying.”
Been there.
On Instagram when Drew said this episode would be delayed because Brian took so long to answer a question that the camera caught on fire, I thought he was serious for a moment. Brian is always very thorough with his answers as demonstrated in this episode, and cameras technically can overheat.
You two make me laugh out loud. Thank you. Reading your future… 😂
This was fun to read! Haha thank you! - Drew
@@Gouletpens glad you enjoyed. Keep up the great work.
My parents kept important documents in a locked firebox, and they pulled out mildewed passports after letting everything sit during peak COVID. The suggestion of silica beads or whatever is definitely a good one!!
Brian’s hypothetical: a 300 word paragraph with 4 nested questions that opens up an infinite number of unanswerable questions. Of course… 😂😂😂
Oh boy! What a way to start a week ! A Monday pencast -to wash away a bad case of the mondays :)
Thanks for being patient! - Drew
Regarding the coating of paper etc.:
I'm an artist and you usually wanna coat your artwork (especially acrylics) if you plan on exhibiting them, hanging them up in your house etc. It's main purpose is to protect the colors from UV rays so that they won't change after a few months or years.
Robert Oster "Thunderstorm" is my favorite ink from this company followed closely by "Velvet Storm."
Question:
As I carry my fountain pen wherever i go, i almost never get to use it on proper fountain pen friendly paper.
Oh my gosh I just googled it! Hahaha! - Drew
Can you recommend some inks that will show shading even with a Fine nib?
Yay!!! Didn't have to wait a week
Yes! Thanks for your patience! We'll have another one this coming Friday! - Drew
Brian's Hypothetical Question:
I think the hang up was on the idea that the information was being learned from a physical book with printed pages which then would prompt a lot of qualifying questions, much as it did.
On ink pH. Perhaps we can use those pH measuring paper strips from the pharmacy to determine pH. Has anyone tried this?
Can you point out any difference between the VP Red 2019 and the VP coral Red 2022? Looking forward to your response. Perhaps a short video will be appreciated thank you
Yayyyy i’ve missed you guys
Big paper made me laugh out loud! Agree…way more paper now. Office printers. An incredible amount of paper is “needed” for our new paperless lives.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on these pens: Esterbrook JR, Pilot Prera.
Now I'm curious about which brand of inks you find to be more high maintenance! And likewise, which brands seem to be the lowest maintenance?
Also. Have you ever considered a virtual pen meet up? I'm going to "attend" one later this month.
@drew, how could you give the CP1 away? I got the platinum one..... I want all the limited editions.... someday.
Drew, thanks for the corgi random appearances. It made me laugh every time.
Yay! There is a video 😊
Yes! Sorry for the delay! - Drew
@@Gouletpens I am just happy there is one. Have a wonderful week 💛
Brian's like I'M TAKING THIS TO HEART ALL THE TANGENTS
Cute moves with the pen case, Drew!
Yes! Thank you! Hahaha - Drew
