Most of those locations are a 4+ hour trip in a vehicle. A flight to Vietnam or Thailand is a shorter commute lol. I live in Cebu, problem getting anywhere near a beach or hike or the places you mentioned takes a long time. I lived on Oahu for 6 years, a beach or hike or scuba diving was always 5-20 mins away

I am a retired American in Cebu and you are in the ballpark on most things, high on some things, low on others. I would definitely double your power bill estimate if you use aircon much at all. You can only drive with a foreign license on a tourist visa for 90 days in the Philippines, so you would need a long term visa like an SRRV to drive here long term. I think the biggest budget variable here is whether you have a girlfriend or not. I have a nice unfurnished one bedroom airconditioned apartment in Mandaue City in an enclosed courtyard with a caretaker for the outside and parking for 11,000 pesos ($200). Many months my electricity is equal to or even more than my rent, because I like aircon. Fiber internet 150 Mbps up/down 1700 pesos ($32), Water is cheap. Food is variable. You can definitely make it on your figures, but I agree that you would not be eating out much. If you want to check out rental housing I recommend Lamudi properties where I found my apartment:

The cost of living in any country 100% linked to your income & the lifestyle you chose to live, if you can survive in your home country on a certain budget & then move to another country where the cost of living is cheaper then you can improve your lifestyle, but it's not always about money, there are many factors that contribute to a better lifestyle & with it contentment & happiness.

You Dan and based on Qiang's glowing smiles are the luckiest couple I know. Wow, you really enjoyed several great adventure there in Moalboal. Cool spot. I have done 2 Whale Shark dives and I noticed they were getting fed and really hanging out with the people close up. Awesome! And the drone shot of the whales was amazing! Ziplines, rivers, such a neat spot and not too far from Cebu city and Dumugete. You two rock. I should be so blessed to be coupled with such ideal partnership.
She knows how to set an itenerary for sure. Was one of your vest presentations. Keep feeding her well, lol. Forever slim she is. Great stuff Dan. Blessed! Enjoying every minute!

Having watched this, and other like- kind videos of the cost of living in the Philippines, wife and I have an income we believe can rather easily support monthly expenses of about $2,750 per month, and wondered what kind of lifestyle we can enjoy for a couple in their late 60's. Now if I can only convince her to put boots on the ground for a vacation or two, or three...lol. That coupled with her spoken hesitation to embrace the culture, makes this not much more than a dream. But thank you for all you do!

Wonderful info! I love how you break out all the details of your budget and then have all the optional add ins like alcohol & entertainment.
I also appreciate how you share what you could live on if one were on a super tight budget vs what you know most expats in the area tend to live on, and you share the specifics about what tends to be different, both with those expats’ budgets and also specifically where they tend to spend this extra money.
This info is truly invaluable and could help people avoid the financial disaster that can occur when one dismantles one’s US life, incurs the expenses of dismantling and moving abroad, and doesn’t use quite conservative numbers in estimating what budget one would need to live a HAPPY, healthy and fulfilling life in a foreign country.
I also believe one should potentially not start by dismantling one’s life but should travel a bit first, to see if you are even a good candidate for leaving the states and all of your friends/family/neighbors/cimmunity in your later years, to start a new life in a different country, with likely a different culture, language, traditions, social norms, food, different levels of convenience and so much more.

    • @arnieljovero1008
      @arnieljovero1008 Год назад +2

Still expensive in with the exception of rentals i think. Plus factor in the language barrier and difficult residency requirements. I think Vietnam is much cheaper that Thailand and the Philippines. I like Thailand but i feel like a stranger there maybe because I am Asian. Further more their million of temples and Buddha is not my cup of tea and as for Thai food, i like them once in a while. I am Filipino and i am partial to Filipino food if prepared and cooked properly with no sugar unless it is called for. Foreigners has this misconception that majority of our daily food is sweet, no it is not.

Maybe a silly question but as for the budgets, you are talking about the two of you correct? if so, what would be the approximate amount for a single person? so lets say in this video you are saying for $868 two people can live in MoalB. would a single person live for 10% cheaper? 20%? just a rule of thumb could be helpful, for me at least. thanks again for all your great info.

I see the electrical plugs are different, is that type in all places? Is it advantageous to bring a plug converter when moving to the Philippines?

I take it there are a lot of English speakers in Philippines, rather than Thailand, is that right?

Depends on where you visit or live. You always have to bare in mind that speaking English is a 2nd language and should be given the credit it deserves. I've lived in the states most of my life and still struggle to speak PROPER English. I took a college course late in life and was astonished how much I was deficient in.
It's even worse when you listen to other Americans
who are of different income, levels or raised in multi cultural homes, uneducated, or just practice street talk. I am opposed to the use of profanity whether it's spoken by either genders but more offended by females usage. Today's generations don't seem to respect their own language or anything as far as that goes. I'm just old school but I 'll stand on my principles.

Thank you for your testimony. I'm old school also. I lived in Mexico for 4 years and I can well appreciate your assessment. Trying to speak and understand spanish, I found I had to think about my articulation. Then there's the putting the noun before the adjective. I know a lot of words, but my grammar is really lacking. But as long as I could find necessities, I was ok. Just not social with the Mexicans, as much as I would have liked to be.
I took Latin in high school. I flunked.
I'm from Louisiana. So it is so easy there to talk sloppy, and get away with it. But in another country, much more care must be taken. Nice to meet someone who yet has morals and scruples. All the best to you sir. @@garylagera7584
