    You go past my flat, LOL!
    That tunnel from the US embassy is a godsend!

    I’ve not cycled around here much, mostly walked, but it looks like there are some good little routes. I’m missing cycling because I’m banned for the next 8 weeks (I had surgery) so these are extra nice to watch!

    Haha! Definitely not bored of C5 I find myself on it quite a bit. It’s one of those useful backstreet routes, like C10 and C14, that help connect routes.

      @Londoncycleroutes  2 года назад

      Relief to hear that and yeah absolutely it’s a good one! Could do with a bit of work around Clapham

    Can't get enough C5! It's really magic and I would happily follow a RUclips channel just for this route 🚲😅 I really like this variation and it will hopefully prove useful one day. Although the few times I've cycled to Nine Elms area from this side I have typically used Thessaly Rd because it links to a more useful end point. Would be really nice if Larkhall Rise was part of a linear park connecting Clapham Old Town, Rectory Gardens, St Paul's Churchyard and Larkhall Park. It would really help North Stockwell feel less isolated 🌳🌻

      @Londoncycleroutes  2 года назад +2

      Yes! I was thinking a linear park type thing, there’s so much space for it. Could do amazing things with that street

    2:16 Blue Plaque on pavement for My Beautiful Laundrette movie, 4:46 Gilbert Ledwards on building & its internal quadrangle, Bromells Road has a neat exit onto another cycle route that takes you behind (Wilberforce) Holy Trinity on another cycle path up towards The Chase and then cuts across into Clapham Common and lots of exit options. (or continue up Larkhill Rise, Rectory Grove to Omnibus Theatre and pick up small cycle path at that junction) 🤓

    Great vid as always. I’ve just moved to Balham and am using it as a quieter way to get into the centre of town for work. Agree some of the roads still do feel too narrow and busy, and could do with some quietening down! Shame they haven’t put in a continuous segregated lane on cs7, which would be much more direct!

    • @Londoncycleroutes
      @Londoncycleroutes  2 года назад +1

      Yeah I really hope they fix CS7 up further, though I expect if they did any more it would be from Southwark bridge to Elephant properly first… it’s about 75% of the way there at the moment but has lots of flaws

    • @Londoncycleroutes
      @Londoncycleroutes  2 года назад

      And the bit through Balham is decent but as you say gives up!

    I agree about narrow streets with parking on both sides becoming dangerous / unpleasant given how cars seem to slowly be getting bigger and bigger. Cars go past each other by just having to awkwardly find somewhere to tuck in and wait, if the drivers are in a cooperative mood. But if you're on a bike you're not the one taking up all the space and causing a problem, so cyclists shouldn't really have to do that too.
    Actions have consequences, people who live in London and drive seem to increasingly be buying large cars, so the council's policies has to change to account for this. A lot of roads need to go from having parking on both sides, to only on one side with double yellows opposite (Chatham Place on Cycleway 27 is one example I can think of in desperate need of this change). This means there will be fewer parking spaces available, so permits need to go up in price. When this happens people will decry it as politicians trying to force them out of their cars I'm sure, the role of individuals choosing to buy bigger and bigger cars and trying to fit them in a limited sliver of public land won't occur to them.

      Complete agree with this analysis. I almost went off on one in the commentary about how carmakers have basically pushed the envelope so much on the size of cars they’re often now a problem in ways they wouldn’t have been before.

    Gosh I remember when Nine Elms was first being redeveloped including the big Sainsbury's around there. Things have sure changed and it's most definitely not recognisable especially with the nearby Battersea Power station developments; quote - unquote affordable housing.

    • @Londoncycleroutes
      @Londoncycleroutes  2 года назад +1

      yeah it’s been a massive change…. Not a huge fan of a lot of it and feels quite exclusive but at least we’re getting some cycle infra out of it

    Every few months, London is steadily improving and becoming more enjoyable and inviting. It brings me hope that not all is bad in these turbulent times :)
    I am keen to see the ongoing Bank junction improvements a.s.a.p.!

    If TfL could improve that stretch of CS7 along the high street, it will open up more routes, and also could be used instead of C5

    • @Londoncycleroutes
      @Londoncycleroutes  2 года назад +3

      Yes and I really hope they sort out the stretch of CS7 by Southwark Bridge as well

      @@Londoncycleroutes hope they finish the works on Southwark bridge soon. It used to be the only segregated lane across the Thames, I used it all the time before CS6 came along.

    Actually, Larkhal Lane can get quite busy in the afternoon rush hour. And every time anything happens on Wandsworth Road, Larkhall Lane is chock-a-block. And Lansdowne Way.

    • @Londoncycleroutes
      @Londoncycleroutes  2 года назад +1

      Interesting, I’ve never seen it busy and I go down there quite a lot - though not usually evening rush hour (I’ve been morn rush hour tho)

      I genuinely recommend Schwalbe Durano Plus tyres! haven’t had a flat in literally years. once saw my bike tyre go over a shard of glass in the road, sharp side up. Pulled over to inspect the damage and glass had been crushed to a fine powder by the tyre!
