I'm dragging it out because still have 3 Echo Dots AND an Amazon 4-tuner, Recast OTA DVR (with LOTS of recordings)! Obviously will have to give up on the Recast at some point (probably go with the new 4th Gen, 4-tuner TABLO ... but keep reading about their considerable growing pains!) ... However, I hate to have to toss out my Echo Dots. I already have the ONN 4K box, but haven't set it up yet. I read somewhere quite awhile ago that the Chromecast w/Google-TV devices claim to understand Alexa voice commands (in addition to the native 'Google Home Assistant'/"Hey, Google" voice assistant). 1.) DO YOU KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE? 2.) IF SO (even if it only understands rudimentary Alexa commands), WOULD IT BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE TO MY CURRENT ECHO DOTS? Or am I stuck with expense of buying new Google Mini-Pods (or whatever they're called)?? I live pretty close to the Federal Poverty Line w/my fixed income, so this is a big deal to me! Thanx for any info you have! 👍
hub is good but amazon still only gives you a usb2 connection so speed and bandwidth is limited unfortunitly many dont talk about this and the speed difference from 2.0 to 3.0 and 3.2 and now usb 4 just comming out they really should at least give us 3.0
Hub is IMO better than the slow either-net adapter. But best of all is to buy a cube which has a either-net port. My second fire tv purchase was the old 4" x 4" x 3/4" square flat box and I bought it because it had a lan port. It also had more processing power and ram and storage. That little box worked like a dog for almost 8 years before it died. I'm now on the fire cube which is good. Still more processing, storage, etc. My wife runs the fire stick 4k and has to get by on wireless as I do not have room in the router for yet another dedicated lan line.
Guilty of wasteing money on the amazon product initially, but found that the speed was so bad that I ended up with a set up very similar to what you are suggesting. So anyone want a slightly used amazon ethernet adaptor?
While the Ugreen adds extra flexibility, I believe that 100 Mbps is already much faster than needed for a Firestick. 25Mbps is more than fast enough for anything one could want to watch.
Yeah, there's certainly some truth to that. However we're at the point where many people can get GB Internet speeds, and why not be able to use more of what you're already paying for? 🤷♂️
In most cases, if it's connected with a cable, it will use it whether you disable the WiFi or not. I disabled it in the video mainly to show with 100% certainty that it wasn't us8ng WiFi for my tests.
I am big fan of your videos, but this solution doesn't work for me. I have a Firestick 3rd Generation and the U-Green adapter never finds or connects to Ethernet. I am using a brand new Cat 6 Ethernet cable which works fine with the Amazon Ethernet adapter. With U-Green connected, the Firestick connects and operates as normal thru Wifi, so I know the OTG cable is working. Frustrating.
Am I the only one that sees the irony of adding more cords to a product from a channel called cord cutters? 😄...to be fair though, you should have done a 3rd test with WiFi to see what speeds you get with that... personally, I cut the cord to my WiFi and moved to 5g Internet I basically get the same speed as I got from cable but I'm saving about $30.
Yeah, you're the only one. LOL. Just kidding. The term, at least the way mean it, is to cut the Cord on your Cable Box that sits on your TV, in favor of streaming over the Internet. I think I mentioned, (or at least I think I did unless that part ended up on the editing floor), that Wifi can and will be faster than either of these methods depending on the Internet speed you get. For example, if you only have 50Mb/s download speed, it doesn't matter if you use Wifi, the Amazon Adapter or this UGreen method. However, if you have 500Mb/s, Wifi, especially Wi-Fi 6 will probably be the best regardless.

I just did that for demo purposed in the video to show that the speeds shown were truly from the wired connections, and not Wifi.
So if I turn off the wifi will it automatically connect to the Ethernet when it’s hooked up?
