STORYLINE:
Soldiers of the Russian Kremlin Guard, gave the public a rare glimpse of a changing of the guard ceremony in Moscow''s Red Square on Saturday.
In uniforms, designed to resemble Russian military uniforms used at the time of Czar Nicholas II, Russia''s last emperor, the soldiers performed a drill with bayonet-mounted rifles.
Then cavalry guards wearing gold epaulettes, hats topped by white plumes and armed with sabres rode around the square on horseback.
Czar Nicholas II and his family were killed in 1918 by the Bolsheviks who seized power in the 1917 revolution.
During the communist era the Change of Guard ceremony was replaced with goose-stepping Soviet guards outside Lenin''s Mausoleum.
Tourists who tried to capture the action on video, seemed pleased with the show.

I believe the first march is the Preobrazhensky March, related to the regiment founded by Peter the Great.
EXACTLY! The senior Regiment of the Imperial Russian Foot Guards!
So glad Putin restored the old Imperial style uniforms. He only changed the plastron from red to blue.
George Campbell actually Yeltsin did. Putin restored the standard honour guard uniforms which are based off of the 1945 soviet victory day uniforms with the red top. These are only used for special ceremonies
Watch Putin's and yeltsin's inauguration
The imperial uniforms were in use since the 90s.
