I cried while you guys told the last rose story... so touching. Your grandparents had such a beautiful love story, although the ending is heartbreaking it's nice to know that they built a good life together.
Family histories are so interesting! My dad migrated from Mexico to the United States when he was young with my grandparents (his parents) and then he learned english and joined the U.S. Army. He built a beautiful life for me and my sisters and i’m forever grateful for his hard work sacrifice ❤ Because of him I will be graduating with my Masters this coming May! 🎓
I dont know if you are going to read this but my grandfather on my father's side lived Exodus in 1940 in north of France. One of my uncles recorded him ( my grandpa ) and his older brother telling their story a few years ago. Its amazing having all this on DVDs .My uncle love's history so he researched the places in Normandie, its sort of a documentary with interviews and also pictures and voiceovers. I was so grateful back then but now that they both passed away ( grandpa and the brother ) its even more of a treasure !
i hardly eveerr comment on RUclips videos, but really felt the need to this time! it was so interesting hearing about your grandparents’ story! i’ve been a follower of Alex since the Brandy Melville days & have heard bits & pieces of this story throughout the years, but it was soo fascinating to hear a more complete gist! 🤍 Alex, i believe in one of your vlogs a while back you talked about either a website/program or something that you used to convert/transfer your old home tapes/videos (like at 38:41) to your laptop. i was wondering if you happened to remember what it is you used? my family has a bunch of old home tapes from when we were younger that i would love to save in a different format! :) Kyla, i totally relate to you when you were speaking about how the first few years your grandfather passed you were in shock & more recently have been mourning the loss of him (around 45:00). i feel the same way about my dad’s passing. he passed in February 2020 & i feel that for the most part i have been more so in shock than mourning the loss of him & only recently (like the past few weeks to month) has it really set in more that i won’t ever see or talk to him again, he won’t be able to walk me down the aisle, etc. so i’m glad you talked about your feelings regarding this bc i feel less alone in my feelings & that my like grieving reaction or whatever you call it isn’t as weird 😅
Can you guys do an episode on how your parents met please? Hearing your previous episodes and past vlogs you girls have mentioned how cute it is so it just makes me curious ahahaha 💖💖 loved this episode!!
I was on the edge of my seat through out the whole story and the last rose made me cry. What a fascinating love story. Also great story telling skills, and inspiring way to immortalise family history ❤ you should do into parts, definitely have your grandmother in the podcast!!! Your parents too! Lastly I love what you said at the end, "our loved ones live on through the stories that we tell of them, photos, memories" ❤
My grandparents also have similar stories of escaping the Communists in China! (I'm also Canadian-born/raised). Truly incredible, but also traumatizing
Really enjoyed this episode. My family's story is not very interesting because my ancestors from Ireland, England, Greece, and Lithuania have been in the U.S. for generations. I wish I knew more about how they got here. It's really cool that you will have the video of your grandma telling her story for your children to watch.
Can we see the rose pendant?🥺 I bawled my eyes off hearing the story. But I get it if it’s too personal and your grandma doesn’t want to share it so it doesn’t gets copied 🤍
My Cuban family members also say that they’re “American” instead saying that they’re Cuban. Communism destroys families and progress, and it’s so sad that our families had to experience such trauma to give us a better life. Loved hearing about your family history.
A lot of studies have been done about dying and the afterlife and the reincarnation theory and that our souls are an entity in their own is the closest theory so far of what it's like after we die. This was such an emotional rollercoaster. My heart was pounding, i was laughing, aawwing, crying my eyes out 😂♥️ Thank you for sharing your family history and i hope your grandma knows how much it means to you and also how incredibly powerful her story is. Thank you for this episode !
About the surname I´m glad in Spain we don´t do it like the rest lol here we have two surnames. The first surname is the fathers first surname, but we have a second one too, which is the mum´s first surname. Plus it doesnt change when you get married. Also nowadays the womens surname can go first if she has a child, and the fathers one the second one
it's just a pity that Hungary has forgotten everything that happened at that time and does not want to help the Ukrainians, having forgotten their experience with the Russian communists😢
Read some info before you write these type of things. I feel pretty much offended as a hungarian.. If you didn't know this is a poor counrty with some really rich idiots in the government...cheating on elections n stuff. They distroying our counrty from inside...also Orbán Viktor is pretty much a friend (or a pet) of Putyin.
@@zsofianemeth283 and what is not true? the fact that Orban is acting in Putler's interests? don't you understand how it looks from the outside? Hungary uses the veto right so that the EU cannot help the Ukrainians. therefore, I am not at all surprised that the other member states want to exclude Hungary from the EU.

I was waiting for this video for years🥰 greetings from Hungary!😇
Such an important video! Thanks for sharing❤️ Reminds me of my parents stories immigrating from Czech to Canada because of communism as well.
My grandparents also have similar stories of escaping the Communists in China! (I'm also Canadian-born/raised). Truly incredible, but also traumatizing

@@alisea2074 alright that is why not "Hungary"...but the "hungarian government". There are some major differences (sadly).
@@zsofianemeth283 could agree if only Orban was not elected by the people, sadly 😟
