I’m not sure what my RUclips has been doing recently but it’s been recommending me polearm guy (you), poledancing archery twink, and big sword elf cosplay girl and i couldn’t be happier.
Unfortunately in real life, your attacks don't phase through people, so after one solid hit against a shield I would imagine the halberd would just deflect off in an awkward manner which would be incredibly difficult to recover from, and you'd be wide open.
dark souls does have a mechanic to emulate such behavior so if you so if you attack with a halberd one-handed against a shield it will bounce off and leave you in a vunurable state
That is if you try to resist the inertia of the deflected halberd. However, if you use the momentum to begin a backspin riposte, you could create quite the combo, while also moving away from your opponent as you spin keeping, or creating distance. Depending on your opponents movement, if they make a forward advance having blocked your attack and therefore trying to take advantage of your recoil, this would result in them meeting your halberd blade while also being unable to reach your with their presumably shorter onehanded weapon paired with their shield.
@V_I_Lambda I mean, yeah of course. But until Machineguns were invented being without polearms (including bayonets) left you open to be butchered by cavalry
One scenario I can see you one handing one is if you have a shield. You could hold the halberd straight up while having your shield foward or slightly above to block arrows, then when someone comes in range you just let the halberd fall on them while adding your strength to the motion making full use of the head's weight.
But now its heavier for no reason other than to make a unoptimal fighting style slightly less unoptimal, while making the far superior fighting method of two handing it less optimal because now there is an annoying piece of metal making it heavier and slower.
Every Dark Souls game is set in a post-apocalyptic world where everyone's forgotten all the fundamentals of martial arts & so even the professional warriors and great heroes are just winging it & compensating by being magic and/or undead.
That doesn't really make that much sense though considering the undead have all the time in the world to practice martial arts. Even a Hollowed could get pretty skilled since they're insane, not stupid.
I don't wholly agree with that. What Dark Souls consistently includes are people out of time. The game's settings are placed where the When isn't all that important. The denizens are regularly of noteworthy Martial backgrounds. Even the player character can arrive with a background as a knight. While a slow, inevitable decay is a constant of the setting, the individuals are all at different stages of it depending from where and when they arrive. In some cases, it seems that their training is all some of them have left. Balder knights might be aimless and hollow, but they'll parry you into next week.
It's not post-apocalyptic, it's its own universe where humans arrived at the same time as demons and witches and pretty much everything else. Everything's slowly fading and dying, but warriors and knights wouldn't have forgotten their martial training, and they definitely had time to develop it in the first place
Subbing due to not seeing many people demo halberd solo techniques. Continues with my theory almost the same techniques were developed across the world at different times.
In an emergency you can choke up and grip near the Splay (the head). Stabbing and slashing, then occasionally swinging the pole handle onto the target. Keep in mind that presenting the handle to the opponent has its own dangers. If they're not expecting it, it can knock them out. If they react quick enough they can pull your weapon out of your hand or at least control the leverage. The correct way to use a halberd one-handed is similar to a Spear. Rest it on top of your shield. That allows you to maneuver the splay in any direction you need and counter-thrust. You can also set it in this way against charging opponents. The Point pierces them. The rest of the splay keeps them at the end of the halberd.

i remember my first time through the first fromsoft game i played: DS1 and I used the halberd probably half my gametime. I loved the weapon art.
Bro is preparing for a battle he'll never have to fight lol. 😂
Damn I love the attention to detail that makes the DS character hold it 1 handed like how you actually would irl
People severly underestimate just how important leverage is in weapon fights.
Or just fights in general lol, luckily have never needed to fight for real but just wrestling and fighting with friends and siblings as a kid I was a tiny 70lb soaking wet kid, leverage and momentum was all I had when most people were at least a head taller than me and way heavier haha. Learned its all about being slippery, going for joints, and *leverage*
Who?
And speed!
@@moneyandmeditation364 like sellswordarts..
Do they?
Theres something so delightful about the proportion of a halverd vs the person holding it. That's just a really cool really long and really sharp stick! Delightful.
I’m not sure what my RUclips has been doing recently but it’s been recommending me polearm guy (you), poledancing archery twink, and big sword elf cosplay girl and i couldn’t be happier.
Love the content man
Unfortunately in real life, your attacks don't phase through people, so after one solid hit against a shield I would imagine the halberd would just deflect off in an awkward manner which would be incredibly difficult to recover from, and you'd be wide open.
dark souls does have a mechanic to emulate such behavior so if you so if you attack with a halberd one-handed against a shield it will bounce off and leave you in a vunurable state
Its polearm you stab them and if you in close fight change it to axe mode with shield
@@dandydwi6_6 A bit hard with an 7-8 foot pole. Unless you mean drop it and pull out your sidearm
I see a halberd, and instantly my mind plays Smart Race
This guys needs his own show. It should be called Weapon Busters
Lu Bu crying rn 💀
If you wanna one hand use a spear instead. And a shield. It's the smart thing to do xD
Bro actually parried himself to demostrate
One scenario I can see you one handing one is if you have a shield. You could hold the halberd straight up while having your shield foward or slightly above to block arrows, then when someone comes in range you just let the halberd fall on them while adding your strength to the motion making full use of the head's weight.
This man will travel back in time and become a knight
When they told you to touch grass this is not what they meant habibi
You cannot touch grass while wielding halberd dual hand.
That's why you put a mace head on the bottom of the shaft as both a counterweight and a blunt trauma weapon.
But now its heavier for no reason other than to make a unoptimal fighting style slightly less unoptimal, while making the far superior fighting method of two handing it less optimal because now there is an annoying piece of metal making it heavier and slower.
Looks like you won’t be Elden lord anytime soon with that attitude 😂
@@orangenostril that sounds pretty post-apocalyptic to me.
"Is this a lance?" 🦋
Using a halberd one handed in real life is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard.
Chop down the length of the shaft, so you can use it one handed. and you basically have a boarding axe.
Subbing due to not seeing many people demo halberd solo techniques. Continues with my theory almost the same techniques were developed across the world at different times.
Glad to see Engvall doing well.
Turns out Dark Souls isn't hard, it's just your character doesn't know how to use weapons.
Modicum*
Dang, I usually catch when the auto-captions make a mistake.
@@robinswords i didnt even know what the captions detected was a word
dark souls animations side by side with a person shows that they've made it very realistic, cool
I love the idea of the meak and meager build
the 501st legion has to be proud to have you among their troopers
Gotdamn I love me some Dark Souls
People oddly had a hard time parrying that one handed red halberd in dark souls one.
"How do make fighting with this weapon as slow as possible?" "Make him use one hand."
Anything to protect thy virginity.
he has a wife lmao
Shame. The halberd was my go-to in DS1, including the black knight halberd.
wdym shame he just said it is just as good
@@puppetwhisper2472I think robinswords just demonstrated that in a real fight, using a halberd one handed would get you killed in short order.
You know the weapon is hard to use when he’s got his glasses off
Finally a good tutorial on this
It’s about the swag- Said Jesus
Imagine stepping out for your money coffee and your neighbor is back there swinging around a halberd 😂😭 love the content but man that’d be crazy
Do not forget Lu Bu held his halberd at the farthest end of the handle with one hand. He wields his halberd like Sephiroth wields his sword
I will remind of that in my next halberd battle... The funny thing is that there is events to that, that don't need to be a joke
i like how they animated the character in dark souls look as if he’s really handling it how you would in reality.
I'll remember that next time I use a halberd.
“Though the end of this weapon is weighty, and causes the user to stagger when missing a swing”
There is a reason the swiss were feared for a long time. The halberd.
Videos like this make me feel like I'm being shadowboxed through my screen
Honestly, I only clicked on this video because I saw the blue costume and the polearm, and assumed it was a Kaladin cosplay.
Thank you dark souls irl man
