I got a halberd for ren fest and I found out IMMEDIATELY that all the idle poses with a halberd are actually just natural as shit. The way you balance your weight against it to rest, it’s natural as shit and I was like “YO. Okay. So that’s why they’re always painted like that”
I think it's the weight on the end that draws out the subtle difference in holding it compared to a normal staff. Which is why it clicks so immediately when you actually hold one.
@@robinswords agreed, you get the halberd in your hand and you just kinda go “huh… i see” and then any time you stop to do anything or look at anything while holding the halberd you catch yourself making a pose you’ve seen before and it’s just like… yep that’s just kinda how you hold them. Every drawing and painting you’ve ever seen of a person posing with a halberd is just the natural state of a person with a halberd
Thank you. I actually inspire myself from some of your actions and poses when writing (small parts when a bit of a description can be necessary. Pretty general otherwise to avoid being too detailed) I have some “equipment” myself and try some moves myself, but watching different martial artists helps a lot more.
Can no longer think of something more badass than a halberd freely leaning against your shoulder while you use both hands to roll a cigarette or something. I don’t even smoke.
Tobacco and the Halberd only overlapped for a relatively short time in a formal capacity Though loads of polearms made it into the new world itself to deal with the locals so I suppose some Colonist smoking with one resting against his shoulder like a Renaissance cowboy probably DID happen
Because he's probably been shown or sent fan art. Also, it's a safe assumption that if you're a martial artist involved in something many people consider nerdy, you will likely be referenced if you have an online following. People DO like realism in their fantasy, no matter how much some will claim otherwise. Because the reality of this kind of stuff is badass even without any magic.

Love that you know some of your audience. I personally use yours and a few other peoples videos as a sort of guide for my writing. Helps me make medieval combat at least a bit realistic.
My man, hermano, my dude, amigo, "This might look weird but it feels very comfortable and has structure" fella like the coolest thing I've ever heard as a beginner artist.
I’m just imagining now, how many guards fell asleep on that damn thing 😂 also fun fact, the reason town guards used halberds, in addition to all the weapon’s benefits in combat, was for firefighting, look it up but the weapons structure makes it ideal for demolition, which is how old firefighting went, when the whole village is made of wood, sometimes wrecking 2 or 3 houses saves all the rest
@@robinst-pierre9600 hey, this is the first short I ever saw of his, and have since come to watch many more of his videos so o wouldn’t have known that, at the time I recently learned that fact myself and wanted to share somewhere I thought people would share the interest, hence why I did it here, thank you!
I haven't seen any particular evidence for it myself. I'd be curious to hear if someone has. Generally, I think these arms simply don't see carry in a way that would call for it. In that you're not needing to retain it on your person while you do daily tasks and the like where the edge is out of your direct control.

This is why the halberd is an ideal guard’s weapon. Multiple ways to comfortably hold & carry all day everyday.
I’d say that if you need a video to reach someone how to carry a weapons, it isn’t very good for being carried

Something tells me that very few people standing like this were ever arrested for loitering.
This is why middle schoolers should carry halberds
Cops don't tend to arrest cops, even if they do "accidentally" spear someone behind them
Halberd class
The ones with them generally do the arresting
I doubt they'd arrest themselves...

This is 100% a new anime isekai that will be in rotation soon
6 seasons and a movie of a comedy duo of one guard who's seen too much and the other who has seen too little.... Also possiblely bunkmates.
