- Base Sessions interview with Andy Parker (UFO)
ROCKERS UFO have been making metal for more than four decades but show no signs of slowing down.
The band was formed in 1969 by vocalist Phil Mogg, drummer Andy Parker, guitarist Mick Bolton and bassist Pete Way.
They were at the peak of the powers in the 1970s with three classic albums Phenomenon, Force It and No Heavy Pettin', which were released between 1974 and 1976 featuring guitarist Michael Schenker.
The band is widely credited as a group who built the bridge between hard rock and the New Wave of British Metal which spawned some of the biggest names in rock including Iron Maiden.
Although UFO's line up has changed regularly throughout their history they have continued to write, record and play live.
UFO are currently in the middle of a European tour and the Base Sessions team caught up with the band during rehearsals for a chat about their career past and present.
The Base Sessions is recorded and produced by Base Studios in Stourbridge.

MOST under-rated drummer of all time. Andy's work on "Obsession" was immaculate.
Back in 79 me and my friends snuck into UFO dressing room at Arena in Seattle. While security was removing us Andy Parker told them to be cool and he gave us all autographs before we left.
Andy seems like a really great guy
Always an underrated drummer!
No filler, no frivolity. Just rock-solid drumming. The way it was meant to be. amen
I love UFO. And what an articulate speaker Andy Parker is. Please do another show in Aberdeen, Scotland
Great drummer better guy!
The greatest drummer of all time!Just listen to UFO,s Obsession amazing playing!Beats all the Bonhams and everyone else.
Great, great drummer but, he aint no John Bonham, sorry!
Pack it up and go...nuff said
Yes.....WW&I and Mechanix are my favorites! Thanks for all of your work over the years, Andy. UFO is the best! I like how you drummed "Couldn't get it Right".
Can you roll her from album No heavy petting drums sound had blew my head even I play guitar and love Schenker ....and every one in the band very awesome. So Andy is best drummer in rock planet.
What a humble guy Andy Parker is.
the biggest influence on my drumming, thanks Andy!
U F O/Tahoe Carson Speedway, August 11, 1978. I was there, and took pictures. Hanging with the band at the Ormsby House Hotel & Casino afterwards. Great memories of Michael, Pete, Andy, Paul, and Phil. The magic of youth and 70's hard rock. J.
wow
sounds AMAZING
What a lovely and humble chap!
great band seems like a nice guy.
Met him once, very down to earth. Definitely an influencer.
I just bought a lake house in Granbury Texas and I drive past Parkers house on my way to my place.
Great interview with Andy Parker..the first time I heard the drums on
"Pack it Up (And Go)" from the Obsession release I became a fan of Andy to date.
"You made the impact back in 1969"
Andy had a very powerful drum sound on Obsession thanks to producer Ron Nevison. It reminded me of John Bonham's sound and it took UFO to a higher level. I wish we could still hear drums like that on modern records .
Wasn't that the dig at Zep ? Lol
Andy lifted the drum beat to Pack It Up & Go from The Immigrant Song!
legend......
Cool interview.
andy.parker.good
drums
Thank you for helping to archive this member of one of the greats of a yet to be properly analyzed movement called rock.
That guy's hair looks absolutely diobolical, I bet Andy was thinking the same thing
It aint gonna catch on I don't think!!
Crazy kids.
Props to Eddie Trunk....met Andy because Eddie was hosting the concert.
Pack It Up and Go.
Instantly recognized player...sound of his toms, the way he flowed down the toms...Obsession is a masterpiece w Parker and Way. HUGE sound they got. Always played in pocket of the song like Bonham. Virgil Donati fans run away...not your kind of drummer here...Andy plays TIME and GROOVE
He's one of my favourite drummers! Obsession was really an amazing!
Andy Parker was there before Jason Bonham. And I don't care if Jason's father was the late great John Bonham. While Zeppelin ruled the world ole Andy was out there slogging it, pounding those drums w.Mick Bolton, etc. until the blond bomber showed up and UFO finally started to get the respect that they deserved. They came through Chicago 3 X's a year man in 74-76? No matter Michael went nutters. He was 19 when they were on TV in Germany for criminy sakes. And drummers wear out worse than anyone unless the singer shreds his chords. Andy rocked!
A question mark on the right side of the interviewers head. Hmm. Makes me think...should I grow hair on that side of my head or shave the other side off. Very interesting but stupid. Seriously though, it is cool to hear an interview with Andy Parker. He was there even before Schenker joined in 1974? Cool. Thanks.
Andy looks like King Tut from Batman.
Did the interviewer play bass for MSG he looks familiar
It’s not Rev Jones. Rev is American
Why does he slag illegal downloads then praise bootlegging of gigs?
Too much Acid!
Real fans collect bootlegs, but they also buy all the official releases. Every sensible musician knows this.
LM Jones - Right, and bootlegging is different than pirating. Bootlegs are traded among fans, as opposed to being sold for profit, as in pirating.
This interviewer doesn't have a clue, do a bit of research first jesus christ 🤔
