Why Michael, Phil, Andy, Paul and Pete aren't in the R&R Hall of Fame is beyond me. I agree with you regarding Phil. I also like Walk on Water. Such a great album.
Phil Mogg is one of the most of the underrated artists of rock. At 64, he is still touring with the band this year (check their tour schedule and go!), and has continued to turn out well-crafted songs as the years go by. With Michael Schenker as a guitarist, my favorite album is "Walk on Water"; with Vinnie Moore, my favorite is "You Are Here". Mogg is an amazing writer whose work has grown immensely with time and deserves great praise.
One of the Greatest writer an singer, the best voice for Rock n Roll music. AVE Phil, hey an thanks for having a cigarrete with me at the last Tour in America en La Santa Cruz, club Catalyst.
Phil Mogg is the original underrated artist not only can sing but write superb rock songs. Also together with UFO he is criminally neglected in the R&R Hall of Fame. Their album Strangers in the Night was one of the best live Rock albums ever to date (together with Made in Japan)
UFO has been my favorite band since 1977 .I saw them 3 times in Indianapolis in 1977 1978 and 1979.Great job Phil and thanks for still playing.Try getting Schenker off his but and tour with ya
It was towards the END. But the fans deserved and GOT IT when UFO joined Uli Jon Roth at Donnington in 2001. I saw Pete way at a little record store and w/his Amphetamine band in October or late Sept. 2000 but that Donnington gig...it don't get better than that. Bravo. Rockin' memories. Wish Phil had done a few more interviews.
Phil's voice is so distinctive, and what a tremendous writer! I agree with him (and others here) that The Wild The Willing and the Innocent is overlooked for the great rock album that it is. Love to Love is still one of my favorite songs along with the obvious Schenker-era tunes, but for my money, I could listen to WW&I over and over again. I was a little disappointed when Mechanix came out, but after repeated listening I came to really love that one too. My more metal friends do not share my enthusiasm for UFO and I could never understand why, although I suppose their finesse and more straight ahead hard rock approach is not purely enough metal for them. Phil Moog is the Springsteen of hard rock lyrics, imo. Amazingly talented man.
Chocolate Box is definitely one of Phil's best albums, up there with Obsession, Wild/Willing, and High Stakes! Thanks for this clip. Tommy Vance knew the UFO history well.
Allow me to add to the chorus of praise for "Wild the Willing and the Innocent". A stellar album; I'd love to hear "Lonely Heart" or the title track live.
Phil Mogg has been a huge inspiration for over half my life for well over half my life. I really feel strongly that UFO's music can save lives cos it saved mine. When I was just a 12 to 14 year old boy getting abused in school I would come home and put UFO on and it always made me feel really great. I honestly think no band can equal them. I could say Iron Maiden come close they are very consistent, but that's a different take on UFO I know Way and Harris are or at least were really good friends. Can't beat these British bands and British musicians. Great stuff.
Dear Benjamin, I tried to write you a private message but it didn't work somehow. I wanted to say that UFO will proabably not be the salvation for everybody. That it helped you is really great. That it might help others is too. But don't forget that, that no matter how bad it is for you, there is always help for you. Sometimes even in a form you didn't suspect. Sometimes a piece of music might help you, but if it isn't helping what are you doing. People that are in pain in any way should not be afraid to seek help in any form- There are people that are caring for you. Never give up. And keep on rockin' Cheers!
Sorry Phil, but you are wrong... ALL of the songs are great, not just "some of them in between albums". The songwriting during Chapman's era is one of the best ever. Gracias señor!
I love Making Contact. Prob my fave UFO album. Saw them on this tour in 83 and they brought the house down. Blinded By A Lie, When Its Time To Rock, The Way The Wild Wind Blows, Diesel And Dust are some of the best songs they ever wrote. Chapman was a brilliant guitarist.
CusterFlux Exactly, mate! Whatever happened with Schenker at the time...happened. But yeah...such a shame nothing was worked out as they were on the cusp of being something very special in my opinion...
A great deal of their great music was made AFTER MS. I'm sick of hearing about how UFO was only good with Shenker. Bullshit! WW&I and Mechanix we're fantastic albums, because of the music itself. An individual guitarist can't make or break a band, it's the whole of the songs themselves. MS was a great part of UFO, but deifyng him, as what made UFO great, has been getting old for the last 40 years! It way past time the band itself was recognized for it's entire body of exellent work!
Rubbish record distribution did not help. UFO were a big concert draw in the States around 78/79 but Obsession and Strangers never got near the album top 20. I believe people could even buy the records in a lot of cases.
@@ZaNovuyuZhizn had to be cause people weren't saying, WOW!, who's singing the sing rock bottom- rather, who the f is the teenager shredding that guitar!?!?
C'mon Phil, don't be afraid to give Michael any credit. UFO were a decent band before he came along, but became superstars after he arrived. So feel free to give credit to the man that put UFO over the top.
always loved knowing a band most didn't know.i got lights out at a garage sale thirty years ago.been in my top ten albums ever since. the roll of the dice.lifes run has been good to them really.great loud music.
@marhill77 The interviewer never asked. The questions were about memorable gigs, back stage antics, the new album, Mogg's personal favorites. He wasn't asked about the relative contributions of individual members, or what factors put them "over the top". It's not as if he slagged Michael or anything; he just answered teh questions he was asked.
Hey Phil... do you remember playin 'The Grange' in Southgate? I can remember helping out settin up etc... with Jerry Pringle (remember him?). Great days m8. even remember helpin out with screaming lord sutch up there with you supporting i believe :o
Wait can I ask when was this deal done with Phil and Micheal ? Surely it must have been after the walk on water album and two tours that followed that in 95 and 98?? As before when micheal left after strangers they got Paul Chapman ( whos period with the band I adore btw ) and it was still called UFO. Then Neil carter replaced Paul Raymond then Pete way left and it was still called UFO with misdemeanor 85 too and then again for high steaks in 92 . So when was this deal ? I know that in 2003 or 2004 they or Phil got the name alone back ? If someone could explain to me would be amazing. I adore UFO I'm going to be seeing them for the last time in Scotland next week two dates in Inverness and Glasgow it will be amazing and very emotional. And I think they are just as good without schenker Vinnie Moore is incredible live
What an exceptionally honest bloke, not afraid to admit that several albums are full of filler stuff. He's also implicitly stating that they weren't great without Schenker as well. The only other artist that I have heard basically say he wrote a lot of crap songs is Robin Trower, but in his case it was more having to compare everything to the Bridge of Sighs album, that he could never quite reach again.
Bloke is a slang term for a man common in Ireland, Australia, Britain, New Zealand, and South Africa. Usually for someone down to earth, nobody would call Prince Charles a 'bloke' for instance...
Robin Trower not quite reaching Bridge of Sighs again? I was truly impressed with his 2010 album The Playful Heart, a badass rocking album from start to finish, but after that he lacked the inspiration and gone back to the usual blues stuff
Tommy Vance always looked slightly ridiculous, a bit like your Dad trying to look cool, but Rock music owes him so much. For so many bands his show was their only airplay.
Not true, they did really well with their first few records w/o Schenker. They were on European tv and everything. And they did really well after Schenker in the 80'. I love the Schenker years but also love most everything they did , especially the first 2 albums which are very different.
Why Michael, Phil, Andy, Paul and Pete aren't in the R&R Hall of Fame is beyond me. I agree with you regarding Phil. I also like Walk on Water. Such a great album.
Tommy Vance is one of the best interviewers I've ever seen.
One of the best rock era vocalists. I love WW&I and Mechanix with Paul Chapman on board. UFO is so underrated!
Phil Mogg is one of the most of the underrated artists of rock. Great interview. Phil Mogg One of the truly underrated artist that have stayed the course. I applaud you. Long live Rock and Roll. Up the Irons Phil!
My first ever gig I attended as a 15 year old was UFO way back in January 1980 at the Edinburgh Odeon. It was amazing.
RIP Tommy Vance
He speaks so soft and then just booms with such a great destinctive voice.
the legendary phil mogg
I seen them in South Bend Indiana in 79 along with co-headliners AC/DC.
My first live show at the age of 13 with my older brother. WHAT A SHOW!!!
The best rock vocalist ever 🤘🤘
Probably my favorite front man ever. Great vocalist and songwriter and not an ego-maniac like most.
One of the Greatest writer an singer, the best voice for Rock n Roll music. AVE Phil, hey an thanks for having a cigarrete with me at the last Tour in America en La Santa Cruz, club Catalyst.
"it was no different to everyone else on a Friday night, you go out and...... Have a good time, its just ours seemed to extend through the whole week"
Phil Mogg is the original underrated artist not only can sing but write superb rock songs. Also together with UFO he is criminally neglected in the R&R Hall of Fame. Their album Strangers in the Night was one of the best live Rock albums ever to date (together with Made in Japan)
Mogg was a vocal monster!!!! Mother Mary was the best!!!
UFO has been my favorite band since 1977 .I saw them 3 times in Indianapolis in 1977 1978 and 1979.Great job Phil and thanks for still playing.Try getting Schenker off his but and tour with ya

great album...great interview!!! PHIL is best front leading man , ever!
UFO is really under rated.
And he can always form a KILLER band!!!
RIP Tommy, or TV on the radio, as we knew him. He did so much to promote rock music.
RIP Tommy Vance. I used to love listening the Friday rock show.
G-d bless Phil and every one he loves!!!
Such a sweet sweet man and genius.
great singer and UFO rocks, baby

If you examine and listen to the whole music of this band their are so many musical gems to appreciate.
I feel the same way. Love the band. Loved WW&I. Likewise, UFO never clicked with a lot of my friends. Never understood why.
Chocolate Box is definitely one of Phil's best albums, up there with Obsession, Wild/Willing, and High Stakes! Thanks for this clip. Tommy Vance knew the UFO history well.
Phil’s seems quite genuine, humble and a sweet heart 👍
Tommy Vance ! Saw him at the Astoria , He Rocked !!
We love Phil mogg, Truly great singer, songwriter , Just as great now with Vinnie moore, Rob de luca, we miss Tommy, best rock show, ever...
Allow me to add to the chorus of praise for "Wild the Willing and the Innocent". A stellar album; I'd love to hear "Lonely Heart" or the title track live.
I LOVE YOU PHIL !!!!
The sweetest , most beautiful man in the world .
Thank U for posting !
Love you Phil, man

Benjamin Blake Mitchner Good music can change you. I'm glad you were able to find solace in this great band. Good for you.
Amen

Yes. Their music is very emotional.
Wild and Willing is my favorite UFO album!!
Sorry Phil, but you are wrong... ALL of the songs are great, not just "some of them in between albums". The songwriting during Chapman's era is one of the best ever. Gracias señor!
The Chicago shows for the reunion tour in 95 were freakin NUTZ . And he doesn’t mention those 4 sold out shows ? ?
Phil Mogg you're the best!
Phil Mogg is the Man!!
Phil's "speaking voice" is quite a bit higher sounding than I would've expected
Some excellent questions from Tommy Vance there. I loved his Friday Rock show!

No Place to Run is my favorite UFO album.
What a bloody shame UFO 'sploded after Strangers In The Night ... they'd have been huge.
CusterFlux Exactly, mate! Whatever happened with Schenker at the time...happened. But yeah...such a shame nothing was worked out as they were on the cusp of being something very special in my opinion...

Why did Phil punch Mick Schenker? Their duo was brilliant in 1970-s.
@@ZaNovuyuZhizn had to be cause people weren't saying, WOW!, who's singing the sing rock bottom-

The wild willing and the innocent is the best UFO album hands down
I listened to UFO's weakest album recently, it was amazing.
Big fan
10 o'clock Radio 1 the Friday Night Rock Show those where the days, saw UFO only once but glad I did great vid
C'mon Phil, don't be afraid to give Michael any credit. UFO were a decent band before he came along, but became superstars after he arrived. So feel free to give credit to the man that put UFO over the top.
I prefer the Chapman-era.
Man choclate box is amazing.. I agree Jeff kollman should be in UFO now

Very very good album he's right it could be a UFO album

What's the name of this UFO release they're talking about in the beginning? And who is this guitar player that Phil said is on this release?
Nevermind, I got it.

UFO AND THIN LIZZY....BOTH SHOULD BE IN

Phil looks like Johnny Rotten lol
Did Phil really have to shave his head and look like someone out of Mad Max?
sounds like I nice bloke.
is it just me or does Phil look like Vladimir Putin?
Phil can sing, but he was second division wiffout the "blond bomber!"
Совершенно верно! Голос Фила Могга украшался и обрамлялся только блестящей игрой Майкла Шенкера!
You'd have never even heard of Phil Mogg or UFO if it wasn't for Schenker....
Not true, they did really well with their first few records w/o Schenker.
