About:
Far beneath the majesty and splendour of the Paris Opera House, hides the Phantom in a shadowy existence. Shamed by his physical appearance and feared by all, the love he holds for his beautiful protégée Christine Daaé is so strong that even her heart cannot resist.
The musical opened at Her Majesty’s Theatre on 9 October 1986 with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman in the leading roles, and there have been dozens of productions worldwide since then. Now in its 30th record-breaking year, The Phantom of the Opera continues to captivate audiences at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London’s West End, after more than 11,000 performances.
I love the part when it showed how the phantom heard Christine's voice
Right by the string bass too! As a bassist, that made me sooo happy! ;)
He’s like “you’re doing great sweetie” 😂
Best part ever 2:02
Yeaaaah, give goosebumps every time!!!
I love how people think she's the worst Christine but give her a break she was 16!! This is phenomenal for that age! Sierra Boggess and other Christines had more time to gain and give their voice strength
I for one agree with casting a teen for the role, as Christine was the same age in the play. A 40-ish Sarah Brightman would not have worked out.
Emmy is best Christine
I loved her in this role so much people are wack!
@@ayf1983 Agreed. And btw, musical Christine is 16-17, novel Christine is 21+
What!? People actually think that? I loved Emmy as Christine!
I absolutely love this movie I might even be obsessed
I just watched this movie for the first time a few days ago and I keep YouTubing the songs. By now I know all of the words. Lol I’m proud to call myself obsessed. 😂
Lizzy Hipets same
Lizzy Hipets me too.
My sister love you
Yo lo estaba, también. No es sana la obsesión. Díganle a Erik...🤣 Dios los bendiga.
She is literally shining. How can she do that??!!!?
Movie magic 👍
Secret
The spotlights
That transition was one of the best parts of the movie. From her Babylon costume to the white gown.
@@ayf1983 hannibal
Incredible. She sings gloriously for a 17 year old (while filming back in 2004). I thought she looked 19 or 20 years old!
I wonder how things would have turned out if he hadn't reconized Christine
Halle Holmes She would've actually gotten together with Erik/the phantom.
Halle Holmes She probably would've stayed with the phantom and everyone would be happier lol
True
the dirty dog raoul
She would either be near death from overwork or dead by Erick's hand. The Phantom was an obsessed, disturbed man and eventually nothing Christine did or sang would have been enough for him. And there would still be a string of dead bodies of men who smiled at Christine too much or those who "got in the way".
The angelic vibe here is tangible, which I think was the idea of the book: an absolute angel, a fairy tale princess with a young, innocent voice as the contrast to a genius monster man.
The camera zooming in on the jewels in her hair, following her around, and finally showing Christine's shining, glowing appearance... Stunningly beautiful.
I came to think this scene is an example of modern culture that would make an 1800s audience drop their jaws in awe. That can't be said of some other examples of modern culture (a Miley Cyrus performance or a Jersey Shore episode would not impress them as much).
Emmy Rossum is magnificent here!!!
A lot of people think that this is an inferior version of PotO but this version has a certain tenderness that I enjoy quite a bit.
I've been watching this film on and off again for 20 years trying to find all of the horrendous flaws that people keep insisting are there. I have yet to find them. This is actually my favorite adaption.
I am a fifteen year old girl and I can't even begin to sing Christine's part- I'm more comfortable singing Raul and the Phantom's parts and I'm essentially three or four notes off being a tenor. Spare a thought for me
Girl you're fine! My range is C3 -E6 (think Christina Grimme) and it took me a long time and tons of training to get that spread to sound even. If you work at it, you can get there. You could also be a contralto which would be even cooler! I honestly prefer singing the lower parts and harmonies than the melody anyway
I can sense some intelligence and talent behind those words. I might consider taking you on and teach you. It's not for everyone, though. Involves hard work, humid premises and lots of lighting of candles.
That's awesome!
Deep voices are beautiful, and yours sounds like it's rare. Enjoy it.
whymustielaine lol I try to sing them guys parts but no way
Don’t worry your not alone lol
Think of me, think of me fondly
When we've said goodbye
Remember me, once in a while
Please promise me you'll try
When you find that once again you long
To take your heart back and be free
If you ever find a moment
Spare a thought for me
We never said our love was evergreen
Or as unchanging as the sea
But if you can still remember
Stop and think of me
Think of all the things
We've shared and seen
Don't think about the way
Things might have been
Think of me, think of me waking
Silent and resigned
Imagine me trying too hard
To put you from my mind
Recall those days
Look back on all those times
Think of the things we'll never do
There will never be a day
When I won't think of you
Can it be, can it be Christine?
Bravo!
Long ago, it seems so long ago
How young and innocent we were
She may not remember me
But I remember her
Flowers fade, the fruits of summer fade
They have their season so do we
But please promise me that sometimes
You will think of me
I still find it funny that almost everyone in the crew is giving out a WTF reaction when they hear Christine in the beginning before her actual performance and I like how Emmy’s face moves quite fluidly when she sings, especially when she’s singing the end notes
I don’t think anyone’s heard her sing before which is why they were surprised
@@brennathecatlover4360 she was a chorus singer, the shorter manager said as such
Andre "what? a chorus girl, dont be silly!"
Madam Giri: she has been well trained by a excellent tutor
Andre "really? whom?"
Christine: I dont know his
taller manager: Andre this is doing nothing for my nerves
Andre: well she is rather pretty
*this video starts*
@@AzguardMike yea a chorus girl who probably sings with others probably doesn’t get a solo at all
Every time I see Madame Giry hiding I feel like Raul is about to be attacked,
I thought see was a bad guy in the first time i watched the movie
I’m pretty sure when she is peaking around the curtain she thinks it’s Erik, cause that’s “his” box. Then hides when it’s not. Considering she clearly loves the phantom it’s not surprising either.
MS. ROSSUM SHOULD HAVE WON SO MANY AWARDS FOR THIS VERSION. SHE IS A TRUE STAR AND SHINES VERY BRITE AND SHE SHOULD HAVE WON MANY AWARDS FOR THIS SHOW
Holy Shit. I just realized that "this" Christine is also "Fiona" in, "Shameless."
sadly, not in Shrek.
LMAO 😂 hello, she goes from being sweet and innocent to a badass
3:36 Fun fact: That is actually Napoleon III Emperor of France from 1852 - 1871.
This movie was set in France, 1870
Tremendous voice Emma as well as Patrick and Gerard!!! All have Excelled my expectations!!!
+Marilyn Garced Emmy
Emmy not emma
Someone else sings Gerard Butler’s part.
@@curiousmind8645 *There’s a difference between live theater and a movie. I heard both couples sing and there’s a big vocal difference. I appreciate your feedback. Thank you.*
edit to emmy
I love her voice, it can go high and low effortlessly.❤️
This is such an underated and unappreciated movie
Unappreciated movie? One of the biggest if not the biggest show in Broadway history.
@@SerpentStar_ true; I stand criticized and reminded 😌. I remember it quite well the year was 1994 Detroit, Michigan sometime in September @ the Masonic Temple: the "ORIGINAL" London cast 🎭 performing "The Phantom of the Opera" I fell in love 💕 with it even at a young age. My mom was truly impressed and so were others sitting next to us because me being the 6 y. o sat there patiently, 🤐 quietly and intently for the ENTIRE PLAY
Am I the only one who thinks that Emmy Rossum made a very beautiful and convincing Christine
No, it isn't. It has a number of downsides.
I know I'm obsessed from the moment I was captured by the beauty of it all..
Love the presentation. Could never tire of this music.
I absolutely loved this movie! I didn't see it until a couple of years later, but I was awestruck of how beautifully it was done and how they captured the ambience and art of years gone by. It takes my breath away til this day. All the singers were captivating. It's one of my favorite movies.🤩😍🥰💖
I was lucky enough to see the traveling broadway cast production of this, this had to be one of my favorite moments!
My favourite part of this song is when Raoul sings because it’s the only part I can actually sing myself.
When Madama Guirey patted Meg on the shoulder I could feel the motherly love
this song brings me nostalgia and love and exhilaration all at once. Andrew Lloyd Webber's masterpiece musical
I love how the box raoul comes out of is box 5
I swear I almost stood up and started clapping with the audience! Amazing! Bravo!!!
My favorite movie of all time!!
"Really you were perfect"
10 years later: "NOT EVERYONE CAN BE LIKE CHRISTINE" *shoots*
Really Meg. -_-
I burst out laughing at this
...
Hey! We do not talk about that awful "sequel".
@Tatum .Meadors a lot can happen in 10 years........

this version of poto will forever be my fav. Everything about it is ICONIC
I think she has a beautiful voice and did a fantastic job!
I am shocked that this is Fiona in Shameless... OMG.
I know right?
I adore this movie!!
Emmy Rossum is the gift that keeps on giving. ❤️ Love her.
Great film. I was in the film audience when this was filmed.
Un musical extraordinario, una película hipnótica, actores maravillosos y Gerard Butler increible. Bravo!!
I LOVE THIS MOVIE TO THIS DAY. GERRY WAS THE IDEAL PHANTOM. HE MADE ME CRY AND MELT. FOLLOW HIM SINCE THE FIRST ADVERTISEMENT THE MOVIE. I SAID: 'MUST WATCH THIS MOVIE'
PLEASE, SAY HIM THIS. CONGRATS!
It's on for free on RUclips movies
OH! Absolutely gorgeous!
I love the movie and the musical ❤
the phantom is probably thinking thank fuck its not Carlotta singing for a change
She looks and sounds so angelic. I love it!
Fantástica versión
those brown eyes!
as a teen, i had similar issues with my upper register but no matter, her voice is beautiful.
I can hit the high note yay
how???!!!
Same! I can also hit that really high note in "The Phantom of The Opera" (The ending note) : )
+PierceTheLeafy Same here
same
Luna Gamer me too
I love the fact that her hair is styled just like the Winterhalter portrait of Elisabeth, Empress of Austria, a famous beauty of the mid-19th century. Somebody really did their research!
Awesome music playing it in band
FIONA!!!
I love how the directors faces change instantly
Amazing voice
This has to be my favorite song from The Phantom of the Opera
🩷🎵🩷🎵
Bravo Christine 👏👏👏👏👏😱👌🗯️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🗯️
I had the opportunity back in march to see this on Broadway and it was amazing, except that my seat was in the very back of the balcony 😅
beautiful!!
Sweet tune
Look at Feirmon’s and Andra’s faces when she starts singing! LOLOLOL!!!
Sing, my angel of music 💜

Belíssima música!
it's butifull
best movie ever made
Not even close. Go watch The Godfather and get a reality check.
ElmerJFapp Gaming ugh. men.
sue she I'm a girl and I agree with him
ElmerJFapp Gaming Not even close. Watch Return of the King then get back to me.
John Dunn you and I are in agreement.
2020!!
Don't tell me she doesn't look like the slave Princess Leia in Star Wars in the beginning
Well, Christine was portraying a slave girl there.
I never thought that and I love star wars. Years of academy training wasted...
Ich war in Hamburg bei Phantom der Oper es war ganz toll lg Susanne
One piece of advice I’d have given her is to keep her mouth open more up and down rather than side to side, it opens up your palette and gives you a fore forward, pointed, rounded sound that is more operatic. Especially for 3:14, it would have given her voice a much more rounded sound that would have made it easier for her to do the runs and staccato notes and make them more pronounced and projected.
Beauty! ☺️💕👍.
I think our world have only 2 amazing and best movies ever made...
"TITANIC" and "The Phantom of the Opera"
Time Barbariska and Les Misèrables
Ɗoctor Ñexus YASSSSS
this is my guilty pleasure tbh 😁
I cannot for the life of me transition from "shared" to "seen".
Introducing Emmy Rossum...my first of many female crushes.
I was instantly smitten in this scene too. it reminded me of Jennifer Connelly in Labyrinth when she was my first movie crush.
O melhor filme.
I can sing just like her but i only sing for my family, friends and erik if he was really real in real life. And on special occasions such as my parents anniversary and get together parties but i would sing in front of roul.
Somehow whenever I sing English classic songs a British accent comes out of me and I get truly surprised!! I'm Greek and I have a perfect American accent but my British one is 😷😷😷😷😷😷😷😷😷😷😷😷😂😂
I thought this movie was just great when it came out. This was a very good movie for certain.
🔥
😍❤🌹🌹👏👏👏👏👏👏
FIONA
I have the anointing of Christine.
Also when did they change the opera from Hannibal
Carl: Did any of you know she could sing?
Debbie: Nope.
Ian: Had no idea.
Lip: Never thought she'd be the type.
i love u season n daddy
I will always think of you daddyboy when I hear this soundtrack.....I ❤ you....Fuck cancer !
is that her real singing voice?
Yes
Habe auch die DVD lg Susanne
She is so talented, before shameless, I love this show too
❤️❤️❤️
Did Emmy rossum actually sing in this movie?
Aly Girl yep, she took opera training when she was a kid and this was shot when she was 16/17, which is why she has such a soft voice compared to christines that sing it in the stage productions
I just wished she sang it with feelings and convictions...
i was distracted of her
facial expression...
it made her look like she
was self conscious of her voice performance....
@@cuzuvmcvoy I mean that’s the whole point.. she’s a soprano taking over the prima donnas spotlight. Wouldn’t you be nervous and self conscious too?
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
When I first heard this I thought there was no way I could sing the ending but then I realized it was only an Ab5. I'm a countertenor
I havent watched this movie but only the musical so i dunno whats happening in here but the costume for Christine looks like Elisabeth
The girl from "The Day After Tomorrow!" Yes!
I singed this at Broadway and I won $4million my mom cried
Lucky you
Austin&Ally Christmas party is at the salon in the Cheyane lanon
I hated some of Christine's costumes lol.
Why didn't they used the stage version ones?? They're so pretty
I want the rest of the song.
my poor heart
My sister like that song
Just realizing... this is Fiona Gallagher from Shameless...
It’s crazy thinking this is the same girl who played Fiona in shameless
