  • Filmed by drone in a short window granted by the nearby Turweston Aerodrome. Thank you to them for their assistance.
    From HS2:
Our 99m-wide Turweston Green Bridge is the largest on the high-speed route and will cross the railway near the village of Turweston, which is on the outskirts of Brackley.
An increasingly common sight above new railways and motorways on the continent, green bridges protect birds, mammals and insects.
    Green Bridge construction
The bridge will cross one of the railway’s longest and deepest cuttings, which will stretch for 2.4km (1.5 miles) past the village of Turweston on the edge of Buckinghamshire and West Northants.
Thirty-six steel beams will support the structure, with pre-cast concrete slabs forming the deck. 2,700cubic metres of earth will then be landscaped over the top, with the hedgerows, shrubs and other vegetation planted last.
Excavation of the cutting is well underway, alongside foundation works for the bridge. Assembly of the steelwork is expected to begin later this year.

Absolutely full marks for liaising with ATC. It’s nice to see professionalism in drone flying. I hate to see those videos where the drone pilots think alienating security staff makes great viewing.

This is a crazy big site. I'm flying this site every couple of months to show the progress. The staff here are amazing - Mick (on the crossing on Oatleys Road) is a Legend 👍🏼 He'll chat all day long and tell you everything that's going on. Top bloke.
Just sub'd my friend - great videos! 👍🏽👍🏽

It's a huge site isn't it? We stumbled upon it trying to find a way to get a good view of the main roadworks

Bit like grand designs - looks great but over time and over budget. Brilliant video.

Serious amount of re-bar being used here.

Have we really got another ten years of these videos, as that's hopefully when it will be finished. If they stopped making all the HS2 videos do you think they could be running in 9 years lol

That's an interesting view of the green bridge. It seems that the abutments are very far apart - certainly wider than is needed for a couple of high speed tracks. I wonder why this is as the extra width will make the structure much more expensive?

I think it is because the road crossing the railway will run diagonally which will increase the necessary width of the bridge, the cutting is extremely deep here

HS2 is an environmental disaster of epic proportions & Britain's biggest infrastructure mistake in half a century.

Can anyone explain what the two concrete walls are for ?

Always seems to be over-engineered for me - is this widespread chaos really necessary?

The Contractors need temporary haul roads outside the boundary of the railway. Also where the railway is in a cutting the embankments are excavated out at a batter. The alternative method would be to build a vertical retaining wall to retain the surrounding ground but that would be much more expensive. The excavated batter will be landscaped over eventually.
