  • Construction of the HS2 Delta Junction near the M42/M6 Toll - not the M6 as I say in the video! Filmed around the Hams Hall Distribution Park.
It will be interesting to see if this is fully used in the future of if two of the spans turn out to be underutilised.
00:09 Looking SW across the M42/M6 (Toll) where the Water Orton No. 1 and 3 viaducts will cross
00:24 Piers for Water Orton No.1 Viaduct on the left, No. 3 on the right
00:55 No. 1 Viaduct on the right now (has higher piers as this viaduct will go over the Main Line)
    01:08 A446 Lichfield Road
01:50 Watton House Viaducts (East and West)
02:30 On the left Water Orton No. 3 or 2 Viaduct (original plan called for an embankment here between them)
02:35 In the centre Water Orton No. 1 Viaduct (2 regular piers and then 3 "straddle bents" consisting of pairs of parallel piers with a steel beam across them, allowing the main line to run between them)
03:42 North abutment of the Watton House Viaducts (presumably there will be an embankment from here to the River Tame Viaducts)
    03:58 Chattle Hill Box Structure
06:00 Pilings for the River Tame Viaducts (East and West)
06:05 Left to right: Water Orton No. 2 Viaduct, River Tame West Viaduct (2 piers), Water Orton No. 1 Viaduct (tall piers), River Tame East Viaduct
08:36 Curdworth Viaduct and Box Structure and then the above viaducts coming out (the longer section is part of the River Tame West Viaduct)
13:21 Looking SW towards the Curdworth Viaduct and Box Structure
Thank you to @isaac.raskin for the chapters above!

The full delta will get used: the arm nearest Water Orton will follow the M6 (free) before diving into a tunnel between Castle Bromwich and Washwood Heath (where the depot is also being built), while the arm closest to Hams Hall will run to Handsacre, slightly NW of Lichfield, where it will join the existing WCML. Hopefully there they'll leave passive provision for a future Phase 2 (similarly just North of Hams Hall where there would have been a fork serving the Eastern leg, which, bizarrely, is shown on the official map despite seemingly not connecting with the Cross Country route (the existing line from Birmingham to Leeds).

Yep, because there is no connection between curzon and Newstreet, they will remain 2 in dependant lines. They could adapt it in future (a la curzon street closure of old) but for the meantime there is a distance similar to that between snow Hill and Newstreet.

The least used curve at the delta junction will be Curzon Street to London (ie. West to South Curve) at 3 trains per hour each way. Which is why it was sheer nonesense abolishing HS2A Northwards as that would produce the most trains.

@@johnwebster3224 I agree, unfortunately the contracts where already signed and the work started. A stop at the international would be enough for the midlands.

@@barrypickles6546 There ia no rerason for connection between New Stret and Curzon Street stations as Curzon Street station will be the main station for InterCity services from Birmingham eaving New Street to deal with X Country trains and semi fast train services, ny connections between the two lines will be made at Birmingham Interchange/ Birmingham International at the Airport.

On a future video, I'll give more detail, this one wasn't as easy as I expected to follow so was recorded in 5 chunks on the same day. Had expected the day to be pouring with rain so didn't do any research on where the site was so ended up driving around trying to find best viewing points!
There is a bridge being put in place this weekend so we'll be back in a few weeks to get a more detailed view.

It will look like a complete mess even the 3d version looks embarrassing again it’s just so ugly and heartbreaking to see our beautiful countryside being ruined by so vile concrete and waste of effort to a waste of money and resources to a railway that can’t even get into London every time I see this picture it’s just reminding me of how much the government doesn’t care about the environment when they built the old type of railway they thought of the countryside but this is just another disaster waiting to happen I’m so sad to see the countryside destroyed by destruction with concrete the bridges will be an embarrassment just look at spaghetti junction this is never going to be the same again the grass will never grow the same the trees will never grow the same all we get is underneath the bridges are more rats more rubbish being dumped it’s going to be worse than ever it’s heartbreaking 😭😭😭😭

Can you not see all those massive slabs of concrete and tarmac called MOTORWAYS?!
Get a grip man. It’s called progress. Every developed country in the world is developing high speed rail as a lot of people want more trains and not be beholden to be sat in gas guzzling cars on an aging motorway network.

So I don’t know everything who does but I know that this is going to be a complete mess as I say the speed the trains will go you think the ballast what keeps the track all perfect is going to be what glued down or something no matter what type of train it is stones will move no matter what some will get knocked by the train itself aka flying debris but again the main issue is the tunnels in London again you’re not thinking the more they keep building tunnels the more the ground becomes unstable and London is famous for tunnels lol 🤣🤣but remember that this isn’t going to look like the computer images that you have seen 🤣🤣as you say I know nothing 😁but I do know on the destruction it’s going to happen once everything is done built etc graffiti rubbish aka fly tipping etc will happen rubbish being dumped everywhere but you will not see that in your first class seat travelling along lol 🤣🤣but remember no matter we aren’t going to agree on everything but this is a fun argument lol 👍👍
