- Removable limb c3po is a pretty easy figure to find, but the net that Chewbacca uses to carry him can be a lot tougher. So today I thought I would set about making a replacement back pack or carry net for this vintage Star Wars figure.

Yet again TP restores a toy I have been struggling with my self.
Its the Luke and Leia poncho, Its the Prune face cape, and now its the carrying bag for C3 and Chew...
Now I am just waiting for the Han Solo Endor jacket 😄
All the cutting is worth it, as most collectors won't need to do it more than once or twice, but the effort in making the pattern is also worth it, because there's no doubt A Lot of those collectors in need.
Thank you sooooo much I have three C-3POs with removable limbs with out the net and 10 Chewy figures for him to carry him now I can make the nets using my giant beach soccer using the black part and make them this weekend. THANK YOU again!

I’ve seen a similar repair using the vinyl cut from an old 3 ring binder as well. I’ve found craft vinyl at the dollar store that I’m curious to try. Of course, I have successfully used the inflatable vinyl after seeing your videos. My Leia, Vader, and Hoth Stormtroopers are in your debt!

I know this is an old thread, but I hope you still receive this message. I used this video right after you posted it to make one of these to complete my own figure set. However I just finally found one at a price I could agree with. So I now have an original cargo net to go with my two original figures. I said that to say this. If not for you and this video. My figures had been incomplete for several years, and this chis changed it. If I jad never found an original cheap enough to buy it. I would have been perfectly fine with the one you helped me make. Its my collection, and no one who looked at it even knew it was a fake. Especially with it being behind glass. Thank you again very much for what you do. This video is right on time. I recently acquired a removable limb c3po and a Chewbacca. Neither of which are in great shape. Not bad, but not good enough to spend the money on an original net. I don't have an original net to even try to make a copy. So the fact that you made a pattern, is fantastic. Exactly what I need. I have a vacuum heat sealer for storing frozen foods. I think I might try that to see if it will work on the seams. If not I may cut a small sliver of DST. Thank you again for another solution to our toy restoration problems. A huge help as always.
I think its really decent of you after spending so much time to create a print out, to then make that available for others who dont have the skill to do it themselves. .oh and the holes for the arms can be easily started with a hole punch just using the one side.

Wow! That’s super impressive and really indistinguishable from the original. This item is a lot more challenging than a flat cape, very well done to have figured out the shape for a pattern! Also I wanted to add that your technique for cutting the arm holes is really good, I assumed you’d use a hole punch as you’ve done elsewhere, but the quick fold and snip to get it started is a great idea! Great video as always. 😃
Thanks. It certainly is more complicated than a cape. So many small holes to cut. For some reason on this the arm holes are much bigger than the normal capes and my hole punch wouldn't have worked.

1991 in a car boot sale I managed to get almost a mint condition of this. The seller had the darth vader figures mask. Inside was original weapons and the c3po chewie net.

Love it!... Never had this version. Now all you need to make is, Leia's Bespin cape. I seem to have lost mine, I think it got squashed so I put it in a book to flatten it out... I can't remember which book it's in lol

This is just sort of helpful thing that you do regularly that makes you such an asset to the toy collecting community! I only have one of those pop apart C3PO figures in my collection of original figures, and I know that I have the net that comes with him, but at the moment, I'd be hard pressed to know what I've done with it. It's not on display with him, so it is floating around some where in my studio, I imagine. Anyway, if I can't locate it, I'll have to incorporate your methods, and make another!

Excellent replacement. I seem to remember my vintage bag not having the heat seals, I just used to have to put both hoops over each arm like you did. I wonder if there were variations or if mine just wasn't very well sealed.
Could well be. This is the only version of the net that I have. I have a carded version but I can't really see on that one.

My mind is still completely blown that all 4 of his limbs are removable. When I was a kid I pulled one arm and one leg off (they were on opposite sides of each other) and tried the other 2, but they wouldn't budge. They would just rotate as normal. Now I wonder all these years later if his other 2 limbs were actually removable and they were just stuck somehow. I keep meaning to take a look at him next time I'm home, but after all these years I also kinda want to leave him as I remember him.
Most likely they were just stiff. Give them a twist and I am sure they will come out.

Nice. Is there an easy way to heat seal the seam (just to make it look more like the original? Will a gentle iron or stove top heat do the job? Looks delicate..
Not that I know of at the moment.
By adding the piece to water would that help the sticky paper lift easier
The vintage net was sealed together at the sides? I always thought it was just a flat piece of cut up vinyl like your custom/recreation here based on photos I’ve seen. I guess you learn something new about something you think you know everything about everyday.

Could you get rid of the wrinkles of that vinyl, if u put it in warm water?
I put them in a heavy book and leave them a while. That seems to work.
I though you could've used a 3-Ring-Binder Hole Punch to remove the round holes.
The holes on the arms for this are much larger than a hole punch. For normal capes I would just punch them out.
I often wondered how much does the C3PO character weigh? 🤔

I have an issue with your printable capes and net, which is that you don't specify what's the size for each thing, if I print it on a A4 paper, I'll get a huge thing, not the right cape size, so if you could measure the original and tell us, it would be really helpful, thanks for your work!
