Thanks for this video! I don't play online very often, but I jumped on the Cold War server and was able to figure out enough to get "Bogey Dope" calls, but didn't know what "Shopping" or other options were. I also didn't understand the trip wire command. I wasn't sure if it followed me, or if it was stationary, and if I left my trip-wired area, if it was a waste. I read the faq pages, but it wasn't very specific, and searching online didn't bring up much help. Anyways. Thanks, again. This was very helpful
The fights are more interesting at altitude but with DCS spotting and the habits of players over the years, people fly low to hide and then take advantage of players flying higher. Overlord will give you a warning if someone is crawling up from the trees.
Two Points: 1) Shopping and Bogey dope are actually the exact same commands. You can append things to the Shopping phraseology as well. You can also ask for Fighters, Long range fighters, attackers, bombers etc. Overlord, Admin 1-1, Shopping Bombers (Shopping for bombers might work as well). 2) The merge warning of 5 miles is following the USAF guidelines (3-5 miles) in case people start going "Can you make it 4 miles?". 3) Where is ... can also be used for Airfields if players need directions back to base. e.g. Overlord, Admin 1-1, Where is Kutaisi or Overlord, Admin 1-1, Vectors / Bearing / Heading to Kutaisi
Would it be appropriate or feasible to have the bot screen for objectionable tripwire or merge warning radii? Just make it impossible versus policing or punishing the players. I wish I had the time to set up a DCS gaming rig just to try all this. Automating GCI reasoning is an interesting topic I wish I had time for as a software engineer.
OverlordBot is a 1 man operation. Time spent trying to do this is time spent not working on features and others stuff which I think are more important. So this is not going to happen unless someone else implements it.
@@naloxone04 It ruins the Mig-21 vs F-4 dynamic as well when that module releases. The Mig-21 success for instance in south east Asia was using terrain masking and pop up attacks on F-4, assuming both aircraft know where they are and are flying at altitude the Mig is going to be at a severe disadvantage. No Vietnam war type tactics unfortunately.
@@-Zevin- But in other servers doesn't everyone just stay super low anyway so the pop up tactics wouldn't be a thing because the F4 would be terrain masking to?
@@SkullKing11841 That is a kind of meta allot of places, however in a cold war setting one of the huge advantages the F4 has (when it comes) is the sparrow missile, which can shoot out over 15 miles with radar. I have been thinking up an idea for a map that I want to present at some point, but I feel like it needs to be fairly well thought out. Something that would be interesting is a attack/ defend game mode. Red must defend the homeland and control most of the map at the start of the game, while blue must grind down ground targets through bombing to win) If it is at all possible, only give the AI overlord bot to the defending side (red). Simulating the defenders having radar contact and preparation against the attackers, therefore they would be known at all times to red (low or high) Red could rely much more on low flying stealth tactics to ambush. To balance blue in the attacking side, they could have more access to longer range but still early type missiles, or greater amounts of more capable aircraft) teamwork would also be more important to blue, stick together, fly at altitude and use the superior sparrow missiles for air defense, while bombers fly low with top cover. It would be pretty incredible to see well done teamwork, fighter wings and bombers working together. While the red team could be effectively terrain masked and do surprise pop up attacks against blue in a less organized fashion, but with more primitive weapon systems/ aircraft as the counter balance. Fundamentally what I want to see is a game mode that gets us the closest to experiencing a Vietnam war style air war. Including the asymmetrical tactics of the day.
Isn't the trade off of flying low a lower amount of potential energy and a higher risk of hitting the ground? (and flying high is an energy advantage but more people can see you). Seems weird to allow the bot to see everything when there's a natural balance in place for flying low in the first place. Also takes the excitement out of a low flying ambush attack.
It's only weird in this game because of how bad spotting is. In every other game, altitude is an advantage as it is more potential energy. We try to promote good behavior. I do not find it particularly interesting to skim trees to pop out on people who are easier to see because of how the game renders objects.
@@Enigma89 The only problem I can see with this approach however is that it penalises attack aircraft that rely on moving low and slow to avoid detection. Fighter aircraft still have radars and an idea of where the enemy is going to be based on attack zones despite the visual limitations.
@@matts2758 The radars are useless against the ground, if you fly low you won't show up on radar. The attacking aircraft is operating with the same information as the defending one. It works IMHO.

Ok , so flying the A10A on the server , I have the SRS radio set to channel 253 for Overlord , but the DCS AWACS keeps giving out calls on the same channel when it shouldn’t be .
