Lachlan is the prove that you don't need to follow any metas. Dude literally lays down, goes to bottom north south and starts attacking choi bars from everywhere
@froggy3496 he goes with the situation. I feel that should always be the case not just a known guard for every case. You dont get to be in those positions EVERYTIME
Every time ill see a beetle lying on its back wriggling its legs ill call it Lachlan. awesome video. Lachlan has amazing control and so relaxed at same time. I don’t do jits but love how much coordination and composure it requires at high levels. Perhaps its time to start lol.
Lachlan's leg lock anthology was my first instructional as a blue belt. It took me about 5 years to really understand it, but I'm at the point where my gym mates say I have the best leg lock defense. Maybe that was a piece of it. Thanks!
I’m glad the trend in bjj is swaying back to good top pressure passing and conventional subs. The rolling around with your legs over your head hunting for ankles has ran it’s course. Thank the bjj gods.
Has it because other than Nicky Ryan he could have broken their legs. When he did open weight he came second because of leg locks. This wasn't about leg locks it is more about guard retention. As he's got older he's worked out a way still to annoy young top tier black belts. There are not many 36 year Olds who can roll that well. He stopped all entries and made them more tired than him. Wrestling and pressure passing is a young man's game. I'm glad it's changed but it hasn't gone.
Good to see that he uses everything hes been teaching in leg across and 70/30. Im curious, is there a reason why higher level guys dont fish for the rolling back takes(Wedge, crab ride, leg drag) options more?
Less options available than in the gi and you also run into the risk of getting leglocked yourself You still see crab rides fairly frequently but bolos are considered too easy to counter
LG's inverted guard retention is insane... I have never seen Nicky Ryan struggling passing anybody's guard like this... But granted that LG was not playing around either as it seemed he had wet his pants... 😀
I have no idea what I’m looking at as I have zero jiujitsu experience but they seem to struggle to get anything going against lachlan. His leg flexibility is crazy. Just a fan of the channel and learning as I have a striking background.
The worst part of training with guys that play like Giles, is the best way to beat that inversion bs is to smash through, but can’t really do that with your training partners, unless it’s your best buds that you always go hard with. Plus, don’t want to injure someone like Lachlan in a playful match.
I’m a blue belt but we don’t train any legs really where I am at. I just say this because I usually weave the legs to get passed tough leg frames(though they ain’t like Lachlan’s). Does this leave you open for subs? Or is it just not the best way to go about passing these frames at a higher level?
I will study this video the next couple years, see if I can get a glimpse on how the fuck Lachlan keeps retaining. Submeta is helping but this is unreal.
If you have the flexibility (hamstrings, glutes, back) to invert properly, being inverted isn’t much more stressful on your back than being in a conventional guard. He’s never up on his neck and shoulders - at most, he’s on his mid-to-upper back. The way you screw your neck and back up is to play an inverted guard over your shoulders like a granby roll.
Lucky for you there is very helpful video on this exact subject by someone who coincidentally both the person in question and a doctor in PT: ruclips.net/video/Pulv0y_Tu1Q/видео.html
Yup, what @@josephmurray31 said. Most of the time when Lachlan’s head is pointed at his partner he has quite a lot of surface area of his back on the mat.

Lachlan taking the time to throw away his toe tape in the trash as opposed to just throwing it off the mat. High Character move
How can you tell he threw it at Craig?
"the trash" he put in on the seat haha
Isn't that basic courtesy? lol not sure I see any member of in any gym throw garbage on the mat
You can truly see how advanced Giles is. Its all technique and movement not a single thing is forced.
Bro he is playing it's incredible
Not trying to disrespect no one!
Lachlan is the prove that you don't need to follow any metas. Dude literally lays down, goes to bottom north south and starts attacking choi bars from everywhere
He really created his own style even with the leg game, much respect for that
Choi bar is meta right now dude xD
@David Cruz choi bars yeah but the guard he uses is completely opposite to what everyone is doing
@froggy3496 he goes with the situation. I feel that should always be the case not just a known guard for every case. You dont get to be in those positions EVERYTIME
I didn’t see any Choi bars ?
I love how lachy is going hardest against nicky ryan, the adcc match we never had.
Lachies inverted guard to K-Guard is f*cken Fire. Such good rolls.
So dope, love Lachlan’s style and seeing all the guys roll together is insane. Thx for posting this!
and it's free!
Nicky Rod: Why would anyone wanna be on bottom?
*Enters Lachlan giles
Soooo coool... Not scared to open, perfect invert, no North side, wrestle ups. Definitely the top BB in Australia 🤐.
I'm really digging these 5050 and reap alterations into sweeps
I was born in the back step, molded by it... by the time I found wrestling, I was already a man...
Ridiculous guard retention from Lachlan.
The fact that Kade caught him in an arm bar still amazes me
not many people can emulate Lachlan..has insane flexibility
That unpassable guard !
It's so good watching the more advanced guys spar. It's SO different from the lower belts which is so much more intense.
Yes but like Craig says watching two white belts try and kill each other is highly entertaining

Epic fall in the background at 5:57. It was like he got hit with a knockout punch the way his head hits the ground 😂
Thank you for pointing that out 😂😂
lol he got dummy swept or something, that was funny
Transferring all of the energy to your head is still technically transferring the energy. Osszzz.

Who's the best leg locker and defense from OG DDS (not including Eddie)?
For the algorithm
OG DDS to Craig's era there. Would it be Craig or is Gordon equal? Wouldn't guess he better. And how about Gary? Could Ethan be dark horse?
Now I wanna know same question but full game. Maybe a tier list of them all, to include Craig and not Eddie (Cummings, aka Cummuffins)
Gordon or Craig probably (based on people they leglocked). Also you reminded me to watch Eddie vs Gary again, what a fight.
