I love the fact that you always keep it professional and overall polite! That's why you're our king!
Yep, nothing is ever bad, it's just not as good as it could be and he's focused on how to make it better. It's a really uncommon approach, sadly.
@N T the name? a caboodle is like a group of collection of something.. so kaboodlefish is 'a bunch of fish' :)
I think he can be a really annoying vocal coach

You should definitely watch other live peformances of her. She developted a better stabilty in her voice now.
As someone who is a huge fan of Lana, I would have never wasted my time watching her live 5 years ago. As in this video, she had no confidence in her ability to sing live. I think she had major stage fright. I saw her live in January this year and she was fantastic and does sound like she does on her albums. I think this is somewhat of an unfair clip to review in 2018 because she isn’t that performer anymore. That being said, I think this video in comparison to one from this year or even three years ago would show her evolution of a liver performer.
LoloTheModel I agree! Even her TV performance of Ride was better than most of her performances during the BTD era. She's progressed!
On the other hand she was amazing at the Amoeba back in 2012. I think it's mostly studio audiences/ athmospheres / cameras that freak her out.
She tends to do much better in front of her own audience and in small settings.
I completely agree.
Truth
iTunes 2012 is mostly very good, some of it is great.
I think you need to analyze one of her newer performances. Her singing style has changed a lot. She doesn't sing in the baby voice anymore. You need to listen to some of her recent tour clips of her "LA to the Moon Tour".
She's gotten a lot better vocally.
Hunain Unicorn couldn’t have said it better!! This video is at least 6 years old
no, she's still using the baby voice but now she knows how to use it
I agree. I went to one of the shows on that tour and she sounded her best and seemed more confident than ever before
Yes I agree!!
@@viniciuscosta9758 Lust For Life had nothing of her baby voice. She hasn't used that since Ultraviolence. Since Honeymoon, she's become more clear with her sound. It's more open.
Pretty sure you haven't a heard a single of her performances from the recent years lol. If you had, you wouldn't be saying this. Anybody with an average ear can tell the difference.
Man, Lana is SO hit or miss in her live performances. This performance was...weird. I think this album is really great (Born to Die) and this is one of my favorite songs, but I wish her live singing was more consistent, that was hard to watch. Your videos are great by the way! You're very personable and informative. Keep up the great work!
Andrea P. Gracia I first heard her on SNL a while back and it was so awful I just had to know who it was haha. She’s definitely not as good live from what I’ve heard.
Her vocals during her last tour were actually amazing
Panhandle Gear Demos OMG!!! I saw the SNL performance and it was sooo tortured! I think it’s listed as the worst performance of all time on SNL... That’s saying something when you consider Ashley Simpson got caught lip-syncing on SNL.
@@panhandlegeardemos6837 just watch any last live performance of her tour in 2018. She sounds amazing
Her 2017-2018 live is amazing
Lana had horrible stage fright at this time and this was one of her first live televised performances. She has improved tremendously. I think she definitely tries to sound different but she has gained a lot of control on her voice as well as confidence through the years. I love her although she is definitely a unique performer. Either way, this is one of her worst performances so whoever recommended it did her dirty. Don't let this be your only impression of her.💕
Yeah those earlier performances were pretty weird/painful because it seemed like she didn’t have a consistent technique / sound that she was aiming for. It seems like she’s been training or at least figured what the right sound is for her because her recent performances have been wayyyy better. Still room for improvement but way more consistent
This is a old performance, and not one of her best..
Cyprien Vauchel even so it’s still one of my favorites :’)
6:53 when you got possessed by Gwen Stefani
Cherubic Alex 😂😂😂
Lmfao deadass
O.o
omg😭😂
😆😆
I really like Lana Del Rey on record; live, however, she never seems as strong or as confident. At the beginning, she sounded nervous. Maybe that is why she adds these stylistic choices to cover the nerves...? In this performance, she didn’t seem comfortable with her own song. This is just my opinion, anyway. Thank you for reacting to this. 🙏 x
Sophie M I’ve seen her perform live twice (once in 2015, once in feb of this year) and she is so much more confident in herself and really sounds amazing live! 💛 this video doesn’t do her much justice
She had very bad stage fright at the beginning of her career. She’s talked about it a lot. You should take a look at her more recent performances. The difference is night and day.
She's VERY comfortable with that song in this video, imo :
ruclips.net/video/xND2agD78GY/видео.html&ab_channel=steveatgigs
she def has better performances and this one its not it, who recommended this lmaooo
BitchGetOut yeaaah they did her dirty 🗣
I love Lana but he's not here to praise every A+ performance, he's here to analyze and educate. This was definitely interesting material lol
Lyrah yh but it puts her in a bad light, im just trying to look after my bitch lol
@@SnowLilies It's no point analyzing a singing style she no longer uses. She doesn't use that baby voice, or sounds that airy anymore. This did make for interesting material but it was no use, really, because most of the things he picked out, she's worked them out mostly.
@@bububago1017 yeah I feel you :) hopefully he reacts to something more recent too, it would definitely show her growth.
I'm such a fan of Lana, I was looking for that for a long time! 💝
Hi , I'm Fan of kpop group called " Exo " Can you please do a reaction to them ?! Tomorrow they will release a new song called " Tempo " from Their fifth album ( Don't Mess Up My Tempo ) we will be Grateful if you did Thank you 💜
ZoBA-0 2 He has reacted to exo before, check his older videos.
I love Lana, but this performance is one of my least favorite. She has stage fright so I think that's why a lot of her live performances are a little awkward.
i like it tho, brings character
+Matty Green
Yeah me too. I agree.
that explains a lot, i mean i looks like she doesn't even want to be there
Hmmm. Why would a performer pursue a career where they are on stage alot if it becomes so debilitating that it affects their voice like that...?
The clips I've seen of this concert are particularly awkward. There are plenty of clips of her singing gloriously despite looking uncomfortable!
I like some of her studio recorded material, but this was really difficult to see through. I only lasted through the video to see Sam's analysis. His assessments are always so interesting and respectful.
She's improved a lot over the years. I heard her live this year and she had much more control on her voice than in this old video. Breathiness and "baby" shrieks were gone.
As much as I found the analysis of her voice intriguing, my favourite part of this was when you said your schedule fills up really quickly now with bookings. I'm so happy for you! You deserve it!
Can you react to Lana's 2018 performance of Terrence Loves You? I'm interested if you think she's progressed!
You know what I love about your channel? Apart from giving actual constructive criticism, your videos start with a straight-to-the-point introduction. There's no dragged out bullshit. Thank you for that!
Pls make another lana del rey video
Loved this analysis. So fascinating. Love your channel. Thanks for sharing with us!
One of your best reactions!
Could you please react to Florence + the Machine? Florence has got a very interesting voice and a somewhat awkward technique.
YES YES YES, Florence !
Yes! 🙌🙌🙌🙌 Florence
I second this! 👍
Yaaaaaassssss
Love her!
Well I think she is an amazing emotional artist , and these kind of “ sounds “ are emotional expressions. And I love it all. Like a poetry in a song. She is so astonishing and just grabs my neck with her singing and suffocates me with beauty. And this makes her so distinct and honestly angelic!
Your critiques are so helpful for me as a singer. This one in particular had a lot of gems. Thanks!
Im obsessed w this video of Lana and I'm so excited that you analysed it !!
Please do some Corey Taylor!
A thousand likes. Yes, please do this.
Corey Taylor live singing snuff 😁
@@Lou180196 snuff is gotta be hard for corey tho due to the past and emotions getting in the way for him.
Yes please!!
Omg I have been waaaaaiting for you to do this one
You have gotten so much better at making these videos! I absolutely love your journey and I'm hooked :D Love Lana Del Rey too!
Thank you Sam, for being so polite and super profesh!
You have to react to her *BEST* vocals!!! Specifically her performances of "Cola."
YES PLEASE!
I was so excited when I saw this on my feed knowing that there would FINALLY be an honest critique free of bias, fanaticism, or fear of Lana’s most ardent fans ripping apart a vocal coach and their review. Others coaches have been timid in giving any criticisms to her live vocals. I’m glad you did. As always, your analysis was comprehensive, honest, respectful, and shows your knowledge and passion of the art of being a skilled vocalist.
Now, I absolutely adore Lana Del Rey, yet as many have stated, this clip is from one of her first live performances to promote her album. The entire showcase has some mildly cringe worthy moments. Not far afterward, her label sent her overseas to do showcases in small venues in which to help her get over her stage fright and fine tune her craft. She had been a struggling artist prior to her “Lana” persona, but was never comfortable in front of a live audience and hadn’t controlled her vocals or settled on a style.
I attended her first live show in Vegas when she returned to the United States and although I was really excited to see her, I wasn’t expecting to be impressed. However, impressed and elated was my reaction to how much she improved.
She had the control and stabilization of her vocals and her range. Her pitch was on point and her breath control didn’t wane. She was solid throughout.
Thank you for your reaction videos, and glad to see you back.
P.S.
Luv’n the hair cut. :-)
That's so cool that you got to see her so early on in her Lana phase :) And that she was awesome. I'm super jealous!
I dont think lana fans is as crazy as those taylor ones. from what I've seen in the comment section the lana fans like me all collectively agree that her BTD lives weren't very good because of her massive stage fright. I totally agree with you on her improvement. I love how her recent tour is sounding
I love how unbiased you are in your critiques
I just love watching you! You critique people with no judgement. Love your videos!
She had struggled with live performances before, she gets insecure and anxious that’s why she kinda seems that way. Her performance on Saturday Night Live was the braking point. Now she only do concerts and stuff. I do appreciate her stuff a lot, she tells a story in every song in a very vintage way and dream pop (the kinda pop I actually appreciate) is full of that same vibe, y’all should check out :) pretty nice video
Still sad at the fact that you cut your hair.
I think it looks good.
I LOVE his hair!!
MagicalPurplePanda He still cute
He looks handsome, because he's handsome. But I also miss the longer hair style, fitted with his face and features perfectly
MagicalPurplePanda, It’s growing back fast though. We’ll have our Rivendell elf vocal coach back before we know it. 😘
I love your reactions and explanations. You are analytic yet kind in presenting those impressions. Awesomness!
damn sam ur videos are doing numbers glad to see you are blowing up
I like Lana’s vocal quirks and the character of her voice, even in performances like this.
She’s nervous in this vid she’s gotten better live this year
I’m so happy you finally did one for Lana!! Hopefully you can do a review on one of er more recent performances
Glad you’re back
listen to her more recent, they’re so beautiful
I’ve been a fan of Lana for a long time and I’ve always wanted a professional opinion of the way she sings. Thank you!!
I love your reactions and analysis. I feel like I'm learning something! And I love how you give each singer their respect but you are also honest about their performances. Great work!!!!
I love her voice so much, since I'm really into vintage songs her voice fits with that so well ❤
Please react to her singing in 2018 shes improved so much💞💞
It would be interesting to see you review Freddie Mercury.
Yesssssss!!!!!
Yes!!! Especially with the Bohemian Rhapsody film just out...I would also like to know your thoughts on Marc Martel too!
Problem is he'd probably be like " So. That's perfect because..." with everything ha ha
I'm really enjoying your breakdowns of performers voices. I like to sing when I'm doing stuff around the house and its funny the difference the little bits of knowledge I've picked up from your videos makes to my butchered renditions of some of my favourite songs :D Keep up the great work Sam!
loved the video !! I remember wishing you'd review this particular perfomance, so awesome! it would be great to see a review on some recent performances of her as well
You should check out some of her recent live performances, she has improved sooooooo much
This is what happens when I try to sing in front of people. You can HEAR the tremble of fear in her voice. Poor girl. I hope she's gotten over it.
Welcome back! I love Lana I'm glad you're reacting to her :)
I enjoy watching you SO MUCH! One of these days, when I have a boat load of courage, I'm going to sign up for a lesson! 🎵 🎤🎵🎤🎵🎤🎵
Of all lana performances you couldve chosen !
Watch her at her early years, when she used to be Lizzy Grant and you will find out that she was an awesome singer with an extraordinary voice.
I just love your reactions, I feel like I can learn so much watching them,THANK YOU
Your hair looks great Sam!
Please react to brendon urie's BEST live vocals I want the analysis and only u do it honestly.
This is low key unfair to Lana, this is really early in her career when she had terrible anxiety and tbh was probably on something. She’s become an excellent performer in recent years.
Lord Stoneheart It’s not really unfair, he’s breaking down the performance in a fair & legitimate way. I’m sure he knows she has better performances, but it’s more helpful to analyze one where we can learn from it.
He didn’t drag her entire career just this performance
And we have to say that now she doesn't sing live mostly. She sings a thing or two and the rest is just background tracks and singers. She's not a great singer, yet she is, in my opinion, one of the best songwriters in the US right now and that's her real merit.
Laura Leticia Valencia She has her moments. She has a beautiful voice (My mother’s first remark the first time I played Born to Die) but I do agree, she doesn’t have a certain ability to sing. She has great, powerful moments, and some very weak, badly-sang moments.
Lord Stoneheart I don’t think he’s said anything underhand. If he reacts to everyone’s brilliant performances how are we supposed to learn?
Gasses, Sam! Love your videos 👏
So much respect on you. You didn't criticize Lana's performance but you analyzed it. Keep it up.
I think she is performing, playing a complex sexy, needy, slightly inebriated character when she is doing breathy/baby voice. You are right though, it might be musical it's not straight singing. She is all drama
That is a very insightful comment. I totally agree. It would explain a lot about the performance.
...or she could be a little bit actually drunk.
Yeah, that's the idea of the song, I think. Still, she fumbled this one pretty hard. I love it for the trash it is. =D
Can you react to Loïc Nottet? And explain what methods he’s using when he sings?
Yessss
Well done Sam. Loving your unique content. Stay true to you with what you do. Wish you all good with this channel ; -)
I can't believe I missed this video! Another wonderful, informative and polite video Sam, thank you!
I'm not sure if I said this before, but I'd be very curious what you think of Morrissey, either on his own or in The Smiths, because of his yodeling.
Lana has so many better performances that I wish you’d react to. You should react to her best vocal moments or something because she really is a great vocalist, this is one of her performances where you can tell she is really nervous by her voice. However when she is comfortable on stage she is an amazing vocalist and has consistency in her voice. Pls watch her heart shaped box cover. Love your channel x
Thank you for reacting to Lana del Rey. I'm a big fan of her and her voice. I agree with your views and criticism on this particular performance but I would have wished you had chosen another example. This was at the beginning of her career and she was still looking for her personal style vs. taking advantage of the wonderful voice she has. It is also true that it is difficult to find a current live performance that is high quality audio like this one. She just performed live at Apple a few days ago. Check it out! Thanks again 😊
Once again learning an insane amount of useful things about singing from this guy. Easily my favorite react youtuber as of today.
Love your reaction to this. Most of her songs are hard to understand vocally but you're right it's interesting enough to keep listening to
I love that you're so genuine in how you try to engage with the singer's intent and/or what they're technically going through in a performance. I adore Lana and have been a fan for a long time but I tried to watch this one from the perspective of someone new to her live. You were endeavoring so hard to understand and I felt bad because it's certainly a confusing one. I so appreciate how invested you always are, and that you take everything seriously.
This performance from 2015 is, I think, a better example of what her natural singing voice sounds like, in addition to all those disparate elements that you were questioning, which make more sense when she's confident/in control: ruclips.net/video/YGv2aN9ZuYo/видео.html
Thank you for always being honest and kind! Those two things in conjunction aren't found so readily nowadays.
She used to sing live the way that she did in the studio recording which is more of creating/experimenting different tunes/colours and she is really brilliant at “art of recording”. It’s just not really consistent nor reliable for performing live. She has improved her techniques for live recent years though
YESSS LANA 💜 💜 💜 I have listened to her for years and I always notice some funny tricks she does when she sing (which I enjoy) It's so nice to see them explained professionally from you. Thank you!
great reaction as always!
could you react to her best live vocals, or her recent acoustic performance of Hey Blue Baby (see how her vocals evolved)
My job here is to like the comments that suggest him reacting to more Lana 😂
Plz like Lana react comments
Fantastically accurate assessment.
Would love to see you go over her newer performances! Very different.
I would love to see you react to Ville Valo (HIM). They say he has unique control over his voice (Something to do with low and high notes)
YES! He has such a big range and can change it seamlessly. Ive been to 2 HIM shows and they are wonderful live.
It kind of sounds like she is under the weather but still making it work.
even though this wasn’t her greatest performance, I think it was a great clip for sam to break down because he’s so informative & always includes ways to correct mistakes. I think that’s beneficial & a great teaching moment for those who may make similar mistakes as lana did here. love you sam❤️
You are so very generous and positive. Though I am less so here in the comfort of anonymity, I really appreciate your way. I also like the honesty in your face and body reactions. You try not to cringe too much, or shake your head when something is "off", but there is still enough telltale reaction there to make you believable. And when someone is smack on, or mind blowing, your enthusiasm appears genuine and charming. My son and I really enjoy your videos. Oh, and I thought your were spot on about this video. I have no idea what her true voice is from this.
Nooooo I loved your gorgeous long hair! 😢 (I realize I’m late)
You look great still👍🏼
So hyang everyone pleaseee
She's much better live now! I've seen her live in 2012 and then 2018 and the difference was unbelievable! You should check out some of her live shows from this year :)
I’ve been hoping you’d analyze Lana soon! ❤️
I love Lana! This was a very early performance for her (6 years ago to be exact) , maybe check out more recent live videos if anyone’s interested in her. Could you react to Halsey??
Hi Sam! I personally asked for a Lana analysis video and I agree in everything you said. However I think that it would make a nice video for everyone if you compare this performance with, for example, the one at the itunes festival which i consider much better. Just to explain why people singing can be so inconsistent. At least it happens to me.
Thanks
Keep it up!
YES, this pls.
Lana is one of my favorite artists. Thanks for featuring her.
I’d love if you analyze more of her songs. She’s very unique
Uf I really thought this was THAT performance of Million Dollar Man and we all know of which one I am reffering to
YES.
I appreciate taking artistic liberties when singing but before we do, the foundation and technique needs to be solid so you don't do damage. Like Sam said, this would be exhausting and vocally tiring. In the one spot where she comes in with more connection she almost breaks and it wasn't weighty. She is flat several times. That high larynx literally hurts me. Ouch!! Sam hits all the points as per usual. Agggghhhhh Sam, this one has me all worked up about fundamentals lol!!!!
OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!! Thank you (although not sure if you did this because of my comment) but I've been really waiting for this!I really like that your reaction/commentary on her is so objective. As a fan of hers, this performances really hard to watch. It's definitely hit or miss which sucks but I've definitely seen some better live performances out there. Thanks for posting this and maybe in the future you can reach to a better video of her, lol! You're the best Sam! I'm so glad i discovered your page :)
Love anything Lana does. I think her voice sounds a lot stronger now. Would love you to review a more recent performance. Thanks!
Finally! 💞💞
Can you maybe react to her best and worst vocals?
And maybe the German band Santiano?
Santiano - Tanz mit mir
Santiano - Ihr sollt nicht trauern
Santiano - Hooray for Whiskey
.
THIS
Yes plzz
Please react to The Last Shadow Puppets - Moonage Daydream at T in the Park. Would love to see that or any Alex Turner! Thanks!
React to her cover of Nirvana’s Heart Shaped Box, she holds some really long notes in that performance.
As an aspiring singer who can’t afford vocal lessons right now, I really appreciate your videos and the technique you talk about. I’ve always had vocal lessons over the years but can’t right now cause I’m a student. Your videos remind me of what I should be doing when I sing so thank you!
I’d love to watch you react to the compilation video of Lana’s best live vocals. Or her weird SNL performance
No more bad Lana vids until we've had some good ones, please! :D Hearing dodgy vocals analysed can be super useful, but I'm also interested in what Sam has to say about Lana's performances that are interesting for the RIGHT reasons!
Please react to Jose Jose - El Triste !!! I've been requesting this FOREVER
Andrea Machado Please!!
Oye siiii. Seria super interesante... Please Sam do it
Cualquiera de José José sería bello!
Pero cuando cantaba bien...
Yes!! My favorite of his!
Can you please do Ariana Grande's performance of "The Wizard and I" from the Wicked's Halloween Special?
I don't usually like Ariana Grande because she runs all the words together and I can never understand what she's saying but that performance was the best I've seen from her. I was worried she would ruin it by putting too much of her own "style" on it.
From a technical standpoint, I appreciate how you analyze and breakdown this video and politely show where practice is needed or/and vocal techniques that can be changed so she isn't as inconsistent.
From a fan standpoint, this is an old video from when she still wasn't used to the sudden fame of being booked for many live performances and she struggling with anxiety and was one of her least impressive performances. I do think you should react to a newer video, whether it's the same song or not, to see what you think about her techniques now.
Yesss! I've always been been on the fence with her voice, BUT I'm not an expert...so it's great to hear an expert analyze her voice.
