    Oh my gosh 😮 Incredible! It is 100% true: BIOMECHANICS is the glue that holds ALL martial arts. I was lucky enough to be invited as a "close student" (basically uchi deshi) here in my country to a Chinese community who were serious practitioners of Tai Chi Chuan/Taijiquan. This was definitely not the one practiced in wellness centers and they don't invite just anyone in. We practiced "Yang" style (equivalent in many ways to Shotokan because of its wide, circular form compared with the other styles, as well being the largest style). From listening and looking at sensei here, how he moves from his hips, to how loose one's shoulders should be, is exactly how I was taught. It took me around 5 years to "de-program" my body from being hard from practicing Tae Kwon Do, to being "relaxed" but NOT soft.

    • @JuandelaCruz001
      @JuandelaCruz001 Год назад +1

      @@KarateDojowaKu its not 1 for 1 the same expect foot positioning. but the Why we do it is the same. why. because we want to move forward.while maintaning striking distance . + having the ability to keep going
      . A hopping step sidekick ?( short stepping sidekick or short
      skipping sidekick .. different names same kick) . both feet slide forward. before you execute the kick. Then if they move away. you can hop again to get back into range. there are more advanced options for additional attacking potentials.
      like if they turn to your back side. you can throw a front stepping hook kick
      . if they step to your front side You can round house them.
      qwill it be powerful no. but catching them by suprise leads to great results. they cant deal with such a versatile offense 9 out og 10 times i catch expeirenced black belts with these kicks.
      they are stuck in the same mind set 1 step forward/ back./side then react.
      the relentless assault constantly pushing .. thats the philosophy sensei is teaching ! .
      ok the longer version of this is .
      the Long skpping sidekick or long stepping side kick..
      involves sliding your foot around the back of your lead foot. you have several options. depending on range.
      1 in range. throw kick. need alittle extra range. hop forward as you cross your back foot around the lead foot.
      2 extra range. hop forward with both feet. then slide in as stated earlier.
      3 do they turn? dont need to side kick you can throw round kicks or hook kicks depending on which way they turn.
      4 need even more range? repeat any or all steps as needed . they cannot back peddle faster than you can move forward while always ready to strike. from 180 degrees infront of you.
      im short only 5.6 and i catch 6 feet 6 inch black belt guys all the time with my kicks.
      here is a video tutorial of it. all be it a more general basic explaination without the extra i threw in.

    The car suddenly stopping is a very good analogy for the punch. However it is slightly incorrect. A sudden stop does not cause acceleration. Rather the objects inside the car experience constant velocity until they decelerate to zero velocity either by the seat belt or by the windshield (if you're not wearing a seat belt). When you suddenly stop a punch, your bones and joints want to keep going in the direction they were travelling (inertia) until they are decelerated to a stop by ligaments, tendons and muscles like a seat belt does. This deceleration is very quick causing a snappy feeling and this creates the illusion of a powerful punch. To generate the most power at impact it's probably best to try to punch through the target.
    Enjoying the videos still!

    Sensei,
    I noticed, particularly while you were doing the kata near the end, that you actually open your hands after every punch. I understand that relaxation between actions is important, but do you really mean to open your hands like that? I feel like that's too much. Your hands are no longer "ready" to react to your opponent, and loose fingers get broken. Can you comment? Thanks.

    • @KarateDojowaKu
      @KarateDojowaKu  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the question. I thought the same too, but it is possible to practice getting your fist ready from it being completely relaxed to it being tight during the impact. Of course, it is easier to keep the fist somewhat tight and ready at all times, but once you pick up the skill to instantly make the tight fist, all you have to do is to stay mentally ready. Does this make sense?

    Hey, I live in Japan and while looking for karate dojos I found that they are very expensive and very few hours? Most places have a 11000 ish yen 入会金 and 4000 yen for 1 hour a week? So once a week for 1 hour, or a 2 hour lesson and 8000 monthly fee. Why is the training only once a week and so expensive? Is it normal or am I looking at the wrong places?

      @@KarateDojowaKu Simplest way is to set it up with other strikes like Kizami Tsuki/Jab. For Muay Thai the step is more like jumping into it but either way the idea is to step of like and with your pointed out the same way as with togare ake since that opens up the hips for the kick removing time of the pivot. With Togare Ake I imagine it's probably even sneakier since it uses Karate's more gliding footwork.
