I can't thank you enough for your very concise and understandable explanations on vocal runs/vibrato/etc. I have been singing casually for years, and over time I really have improved! My main goal was just to have that perfect, clean pitch. After that, I was satisfied but wanted a more rich, full tone. Working on that was confusing, but came somewhat naturally when I started to understand vocal resonance. But man the one thing I could never figure out about the truly GREAT singers is all of them can do these crazy vocal runs like all vibrato and wavy and smooth - I just thought it was magic. But watching your videos and practicing along, I finally understand some of the mechanics and seeing that reflect in my vocals. So thank you!!
Did you know, that is in fact your Arytenoids (the cartilage that opens and closes the true vocal folds) rocking back and forth. When they are in the mid or speech position you are on your thick vocal folds (commonly thought of a chest voice). When the Arytenoids rock back, they move the vocal folds from thick to thin edge of the vocal folds… (commonly thought of as head voice or falsetto). You can practice moving from chest to falsetto (these are old school terms I might add) on the same note beginning at the lower section of you most comfortable vocal range. Try it gently. I have a ton of explanations on vocal anatomy and physiology. Paul McKays break down is the absolute best. In addition to his teaching, I can explain exactly how he does it for you. 😃
