My first riding instructor was a drill sargant and demonstrator. She was harsh at times and made some girls cry, but boy did she teach us to ride! She gave me a lot of confidence and decades later I can still hear her voice yelling at me to bend my elbows and no belly dancing!
Used to have a drill instructor/ pessimist and then had a bad fall. Now starting back up riding 20+ years later I’m more than happy to have my instructor be a mix of demonstrator, optimist and talker :)
Least the sergeant will tell you what you need, right away. A couple of my instructors are almost that direct and can spot what's going on, given the particular horse. I repeated a couple of poles multiple times because my posture went wonky, just before we got to them and my horse responded by going hilariously flexy, weeble wobbly, and squirrely all at once haha. Even more unreal, least for me, my instructors spotted it before it happened. I want to work with that specific horse again, just to solidify my posture. He's got a butter smooth canter which is so nice, though, too. Man... would love to get good footwork solidified with that one.
My old instructor was definitely the pessimist but a little less rude. My instructor now is literally a demonstrator, doing squats-in the ring trying to teach us how to work on our jumping performance 😂 it’s perfect for me lol
I'm new to your channel. I'm 53 yrs old and have not been riding for about 25yrs and I am looking to get back. Your videos help me with confidence, and memory and YOUR A HOOT🤣🤣🤣🤣
I am definitely a combination of the optimist, the demonstrator, and the talker. I think it's as important to point out what the rider is doing well already as what to improve. Positive feedback gives you an immediate little boost of happiness and that almost always leads to a more relaxed seat and thus a more content rider AND horse. It's an all-around win-win. I also don't like to give isolated commands but I always explain WHY and what effect it has on the horse, and sometimes that takes a lot of time. I often talk non-stop 😅 And when all the talking isn't enough, you just gotta demonstrate
Ahh I wish my "pessimistic coach" was that calm. I'd cry everyday when I first started but you get used to it (not that I don't shed a tear every now and then 🤭)
Mine is a combination of the optimist and demonstrator. Right now, that's how I learn best. I do like the drill sergeant, though, on some days. I, on the other hand, am the quiet one. I just hate talking most of the time. 😅
In my past and present instructors, I have had : the demonstrator, I think I currently have the optimist, only telling us it's very good, perfect, but still correcting us (love it), this trainer is sometimes the fitness one too!
My instructor is really funny but firm he speaks up alot if I do something wrong! He's not soft on me and he's an amazing trainer! I'm really lucky to have him. Plus he's the best with kids! I'm 12 years old and he is the easiest adult to be around better than some of family!!
My first teacher was a pessimist talker, the second an optimist but very chaotic. Now the owners of the horse I care for are a kind of friendlier seargent and demonstrating much. Like that a lot!
When I was a groom, the owner would give me lessons while she was on conference calls. She'd put her hand up when she had to work and I was to continue whatever I was doing. Hand would go down and the "you're doing it wrong!" would come up!
My riding instructer constantly tells me: "Go on Marie! You're doing amazing!" So..😅 Also she has a strange habit of always asking me: "So what did you have for lunch today?"
Haha my favorite instructor was the demonstrator and fitness instructor but she never specifically mentioned how long we were doing things for or we were doing things for leg strengthening or whatever she'd just tell us to sit the trot or drop irons and sit the trot or whatever.
Great 😁 My instuctor is a mix of the demonstrator, the sargeant and kind of the talker. She talks a lot, but always about the theory and techniques i am using, which is really helpful to me! I need to understand what I am actually doing to do it correctly ❤
My instructor is 100% the quiet one, and the demonstrator together. When im doing a bit of ground work he literally goes like: " Give me that rope and watch carefully ok? " Then i do it and he is like : " No, Not like that let me show you "
mine is the drill sergeant and the demonstrator, she literally when i have trouble with doing some exercise she gets on the horse and demostrates me how to do it
NEW TOPIC IDEAS: Please make a video showing how to: 1) Drag a friend behind using a rope tied to the pummel. 2) Teaching your horse to stand on and walk over someone. 3) Having your friend run alongside your horse, holding the pummel as you ride (Indian style). 4) Teaching your horse to push your standing friend like a Police horse. LOVE learning from your detailed videos. Miss your gorgeous long hair.
Mine is the Demonstrator and the Optimistic 😊 im really grateful for my riding instructor because she has never ever rude to me which im hoping it stays like that ❤❤
My trainer is sometimes the demonstraitor, but not always. His assistant, (who is my favorite helper,) Yells out more things like "leg!" Or "change you diagnol," but she's really nice about it. She's also kind of an optimist as well. They aren't like the pessimist at all though, very nice. They don't really have me exercise before the lesson, but the assistant helps me work out my legs while in the saddle. So I kind of have all of them.
My riding instructor is all of those lol 😂 I have a different one now but she would yell at us like it was the Olympics leg! Leg! Leg! Elbows at your side! heels down!! Back strait!! She taught me a lot but I like my other instructed better now she’s not yelling at us any more and doesn’t Make us cry lol
my riding instructor is a cross between demonstrator and optimist, which, where i ride, is *very* important (it is a therapeutic riding center) - so most of the instructors there are this sort of cross
My riding instructor is definitely the demonstrator bc she is always just walking up to me like Here hold your reins like this so you don't pull to hard and stuff and just takes them out of my hands
Okay, so I've had the drill Sargent, the pessimist, and currently have the demonstrator (kinda...? she tells me what it's supposed to feel like, and sometimes gets me to watch her ride), the optimist/the drill Sargent (lots of positivity, but SO MUCH HALF SEAT), and the quiet one.
Mine is also the demonstrator she always demonstrates how to post on a horse I recently just started I am on my fourth lesson now and currently learning how to post :-)or the optimist
My trainer is a little bit of a demonstrator but mostly optimist… but she always gives me lots of feedback and helps me to be a good rider but she does it in a nice way,
Why do I feel like you have personally experienced all these kinds of instructors, as a student? 😁I have been unfortunate enough to have every single instructor (except one) be a merciless critic. I can tell you, it doesn't do much for one's confidence! There is a big difference between an instructor ("I want you to do exactly as I instruct and nothing else, and you must do it correctly the first time") and a teacher! ("I will teach you how to do the thing, no matter how many tries it takes, and I will do it patiently")
My instructor is the demonstrator and the one that always tells me great job Allison she is also the fitness one we have to do like a one minute plank every time before we start but I love her!
Howdy glad we got to chat for a few, crazy place though lol. I enjoyed watching this video you had me cracking up take care and hope you have a great day. Greg

Yup! I'm apparantly a 'ballet dancer' with my toes pointing out🤣
I believe every riding instructor is a bit of a sergeant when it's about learning how to ride
@@shannonzstories omg my trainer also say that! 😂
“That felt good? That felt good? Well, it was horrible!” Dying 😂😂😂😂
Ikr that was the best bit 😂
Used to have a drill instructor/ pessimist and then had a bad fall. Now starting back up riding 20+ years later I’m more than happy to have my instructor be a mix of demonstrator, optimist and talker :)
my riding instructor is definitely the demonstrator and the optimist. I really do love her, it's how i learn the best
Same, I can't learn with pressure or constantly only pointing out what I do wrong.
@@DSAW2682000 omg are names are both daniella i just realised that
Same! 😁
My trainer is a mixture of ALL OF THEM! Lol, this was great!
Lol same

I love my instructor, she is strict and makes sure things get done, but she is really kind and always tells me when I do a good job 😊
My old instructor was definitely the pessimist but a little less rude. My instructor now is literally a demonstrator, doing squats-in the ring trying to teach us how to work on our jumping performance 😂 it’s perfect for me lol
my riding instructor is 3 of them, the drill sergeant, the demonstrator, and the pessimist. It depends what mood she’s in 😂
same
Mine is a little of the demonstrator and the quiet one!🤣🤣🤣
My instructor is kinda the demonstrater and the Drill Sergeant. She is really nice but still disciplines me! Love you
I have the drill sergeant slightly crossed with the talker definitely 🤣
I'm new to your channel. I'm 53 yrs old and have not been riding for about 25yrs and I am looking to get back. Your videos help me with confidence, and memory and YOUR A HOOT🤣🤣🤣🤣
This was absolutely hilarious! Please keep doing your comedy!!
I've had all of these before lol these are incredibly accurate 😂

Mine is the drill sergeant 😅🤣
I love this video,
Can you please do a video on half halts and when is the best time to use them, that will help so much!! 🐴
I grew up around POA’s and yours is the nicest I’ve ever seen!
I so relate to that. XD
I hate when my trainer is in a bad mood and doing lessons. I'm just like whoa whoa, calm down Jamal.
My first teacher was a pessimist talker, the second an optimist but very chaotic.
Now the owners of the horse I care for are a kind of friendlier seargent and demonstrating much. Like that a lot!
My riding instructor is a mix between the demonstrator and the optimist, She is very nice.
I've had the talker, the optimist, and the pessimist. My current is the demonstrator hahah. :)
My instructor is DEFINITELY a mix of the demonstrator and the talker

My old riding instructor wasn’t really instructing me on what to do , she kinda just told me a few things and bam that was it
My instructor is the it’s taking all my self-restraint out here right now
My current trainer is very direct and strict, but very positive, and is teaching me a lot!
When the optimist said u were gripping with your knees a little bit but I loved your hands, you have to grip with the knees and you never fall off
You forgot the yeller-
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING MORE LEG”
“GALLOP GALLOP GALLOP”
“TURN TIGHTER!!!!!!!”
Be strong! Under achiever! 😂
My riding instructer constantly tells me: "Go on Marie! You're doing amazing!"
So..😅
Also she has a strange habit of always asking me: "So what did you have for lunch today?"
Mine is always like “That looks so pretty!”
My trainer is the demonstrator 😂 and the brutally honest one (which I prefer) love your videos ❤
One of my instructors is a mix between optimist and demonstrator, while the other one is a pessimist😂
My instructor is everyone except for the optimist, and the late one. I love her though!
Haha my favorite instructor was the demonstrator and fitness instructor but she never specifically mentioned how long we were doing things for or we were doing things for leg strengthening or whatever she'd just tell us to sit the trot or drop irons and sit the trot or whatever.
Mine is the demonstrator, she is so good at teaching I love it, your videos always make me happy, your amazing ❤️❤️
Gosh, I love the sergeant vibes haha.
My instructor is definitely the pessimist, she’s now fired 😂
My instructor is a talker and I love it! I'm a quieter person but I hate working in silence lmao
the quiet ones always scare me lol I'm always thinking 'why are they so quiet? is it that horrible or is there seriously nothing to correct??' xD
Mines a mix of optimist, talker, and demonstrator.
Congrats on 100K your amazing and so funny❤️✨
My trainers the one that expects me to be on time/ always do canter exercises 😂🐎😭😂

I feel I have a mix between them all in my instructor. Haha this was fun
