Chad Stahelski, Keanu’s stunt double in the first three Matrix films and director of all the John Wick movies, is the double for Brandon in many of the loft scenes shot after his death.

a quick little anecdote from Brad Pitt I remember back in the early days I hung out with Brandon Lee. He drove a hearse and lived in Echo Park. We went out one night and everyone else had peeled off, and we ended up back at his place and it was like six in the morning. A real, you know, drunk and stony night, and he proceeded that night to tell me how he thought he was going to die young like his dad. And I just chalked it up to, you know, stony 6:00 a.m. talk. Then he got The Crow (1994) the next year.

Coming to this review a year later after watching this film today, and this is still one of the best films of the 90s and Brandon Lee's tragic death robbed him and fans of what could've been a very bright career for the guy. He's literally the heart and soul of this film as he portrays Eric Draven as both vengeful and rage-filled but also vulnerable and heartbroken while also showing how deeply he cares for Sarah. The actor who accidentally killed Lee had just returned to the screen in Se7en, the conversation his character has with detective Mills about how dark life could be always gave me chills in the context of what happened on the set of the Crow. It felt like he wasn't acting in that scene, so chilling
Michael Massee went through a deep depression after this. He didnt return to acting for 2 years as this left him with a heavy heart. Understandably. RIP michael massee. Died 10/20/2016.
I definitely agree with what was said about David Patrick Kelly. He is always great to watch in anything he’s in. I always enjoy his performances… especially when he plays a villain.

the crow is a awesome revenge movie like how it feels like a darker tim burton batman movie . very gritty and bradon lee is awsome in it it is sad what happened to him.
When Jason Momoa was attached I had hope for a solid follow-up. Since he's left it; personally I think they should leave it alone for awhile. It needs a specific presence and of course a good script to redo this successfully

Cody, I'm a Canadian Film Critic for 25 years and I have been watching your show for a while now. Opinions on movies vary, but you're very good at what do you. You get right into the heart of the film and that's rare to see nowadays in such a professional manner. Keep doing what you're doing because you're very good at it and it's a welcome breathe of fresh to see someone talk about the movies and not rant and rave like an idiot!! Now on to The Crow :D
I remember when this movie came out. I actually did dress up as the crow for Halloween but it wasn't till 1996 when I was in high school. I did however watch this movie when it came out on theaters. Such a great movie even still. R.I.P Brandon Lee!! You are still missed man! It still rains all the time when I watch this movie.
I love this movie so much. Came out a week after I was born, but unfortunately wasn't able to watch it until I came across it in a video store when I 13. Been addicted to it ever since. Also grew up with Bruce's movies. Two people gone way to soon.
I would love a Candyman prequel in the spirit of the Crow. Give the original Candyman's story where hes killed partway through, and then comes back to seek revenge of those who killed him.
This is my favorite movie, I am an absolute nerd for this movie! Fun fact; Brandon Lee before The Crow was in talks with Stan Lee and Marvel about doing a Shang-Chi movie.
Good review Cody. I saw this years ago, I remember it being good. I really like the character of Eric Draven, it's still so sad that Brandon Lee was taken away.
I need to watch this again at some point. I’ve only watched it all the way through once. At the time I thought it was kind of dated and a bit corny. I know it’s got a pretty big fanbase and was influential though.
Nice work Cody, this movie is a favorite since my childhood. What people forget is Graeme Revell did an amazing job on the musical score for The Crow. Alot of focus goes to the awesome soundtrack but the score is just as good and a big reason why the movie is so haunting
Yes! This is one of my favorite movies of all time! I love the soundtrack, the story, and the characters. I can’t wait hear your thoughts on the rest of the crow sequels. Thank you very much :)
I love this film with all my heart. It’s been apart of my life since the first time I watched it as a kid on VHS. The stylish atmosphere, the soundtrack, Alex Proyas’ direction, and of course, an electrically poignant final performance from Brandon Lee… You can’t help but be emotional throughout this film’s runtime.
One of my favorite movies. Glad you finally reviewed this one. Been waiting for it. Great to hear you mentioned the soundtrack. It was definitely one of the best. The only thing I'd slightly disagree with you on (just my opinion) I thought Wincott was great as the lead villain. I never bothered watching any of the other Crow sequels. I just knew they wouldn't be nearly as good w/o BL. The only other movie worth watching w/ Brandon is "Rapid Fire" It's good, but not nearly the level of "The Crow". RIP Brandon Lee
The timing on purpose Cody ??? Thoughts on Alex Baldwin situation ??? Crow is a classic though 🔥 EDIT: Typed this two minutes in, great review. Hollywood needa learn like why is a real bullet even there!
RIP Brandon. I met James O'Barr hears ago and asked him about Brandon. He couldn't speak highly enough about him. Agree with you Cody, I've never seen the sequels. I got my comic autographed as well.
The really sad part is - The Rust incident clearly shows - Brandon's Death change nothing. Hollywood still doesn't give a f about human life or safety. Even 20+ years later.
One of my all time favourites along with the lost boys. The crow city of angels is really good to! You should try showdown in little Tokyo, him and dolph kicking ass haha
Great shout-out to Are You Afraid Of The Dark, Cody. As for The Crow(1994), I really enjoy the story & characters. The late Brandon Lee nails his part as Eric Draven aka The Crow. The villain is pretty good. The soundtrack is really good for all the alternative rock fans. Overall, a Gold standard certification rating for me. I truly enjoy this film with every rewatch.
Thank you so muh for revieweing on of my favourite Movies of all Time. I adore the Crow. Its so amazing on so many Levels but mostly because of Brandons Performance. He died such a senseless Death :( 28 Years later and you still ask "WHYYYYYY". Its all started to come together for him and BAMMMM taken away just like that. Its surreal. RIP BRANDON. Your Review amazing as always.
Michael Massee who played Funboy fired the fatal shot that killed Brandon. He was so traumatized by the experience that he had nightmares about it for years after. He later opened a clothing boutique business with his wife. Right up until the day he died he had never watched The Crow. He died of cancer in 2016.
I love this channel. I had been watching your reviews since you binged all the seasons of Dexter and reviewed one by one. No sponsor, no bullsht, only honest opinions; true dedication. Never change man. ❤
I love The Crow and enjoyed the first two sequels too (Wicked Prayer has its moments, but also some batshit crazy stuff too). Got to meet James O'Barr at a convention a few years ago and he signed my copy of the graphic novel.
I remember seeing the trailer before it’s release. Idk what it was, but man I was captivated by the trailer. I knew I had to see this movie. It’s in my top 5 movies of all time. I’ve seen it way too many times. The soundtrack is amazing as well. I love this movie. Classic! The sequels, man they’re rough. I wish We got a chance to see the directors cut of city of angels. The studio really screwed the production up. Crow salvation had a good concept. Poor directing, casting, and limited budget held it back. Wicked prayer is on of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. It’s absolute dog shit.
YES!!! Another awesome review. I'm going to show my age here, but I was at my 8th Grade graduation party as we were celebrating our last time in middle school, moving on to high school back in 94, and my friend's Mom drove us to the theater to see The Crow, and it was PACKED. We had to sit on the front row. I was already obsessed with The Crow after seeing the James O'Barr graphic novels at my local comic store, and I was a HUGE Brandon Lee fan that literally watched his movie Rapid Fire on VHS every day. I was in absolute shock at the announcement of Brandon Lee's death on set. I remember it vividly when it came on the news. Man I tell ya, I listened to this soundtrack going into my Freshman year of highschool, wearing my Discman...yes my Sony Discman out. Also when The Crow came out on VHS, I wore out my VCR. I kept it in the machine and had it on repeat while doing my homework, and would constantly draw detailed illustrations of The Crow, that face paint was so iconic. Oh and don't watch any of the sequels...okay maybe The Crow: City of Angels. It is NOWHERE near as great as the original, and if you can, get the extended cut, but don't watch any of the sequels after that.
I always thought it was pretty cool that the stunt man that stood in for Brandon Lee after his death was Chad Stahelski, who ended up directing the John Wick movies.
I just stumbled upon this one today. This was shot near my hometown in North Carolina and I remember how sad Brandon's passing was to everyone. I am interested in seeing what Skargard will do with this role but I also kinda wish it had been left alone. Thanks for the great review Cody
Wicked ass props to you Mr OG. And thanks for representing all the homeboys. (I know it’s not this movie, just humor me) Also, nice “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” t-shirt.
And now we have a reboot with Bill Skarsgard in the lead, currently in post production. Im actually kind kf excited about that. I think Bill will actually do a good job. No one will ever match Brandon, but they also thought no one could deliver a Pennywise as good as Tim Curry and, i think, Bill really delivered. I am cautiously optimistic about this new remake/reboot.
I love The Crow.I have the comic book and the Crow figure. The 1st sequel isnt too bad (especially if you like Iggy Pop and Ian Drury) .The ones after that should never have been made.I hope that The Crow is NEVER remade (even with Jason Momoa;who I adore). Some movies are classic and perfect and shouldnt be messed with. This is one of them.Rapid Fire (1992) is a movie starring Brandon Lee is a movie I would recommend.I really enjoyed that one.
Man what an amazing movie brilliant visual style, brilliant script, brilliant soundtrack and a truly brilliant performance by Brandon Lee this movie has always blown me away it still chokes me up with the end credits saying for Brandon and Eliza such a stupid fucking mistake on set R.I.P Brandon Lee rest easy mate.
Thank you do much for this review. This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Just like you, I was late to the party to this movie but instantly fell in love with it. Great review my man. I am proud to be a supporter of your channel because I love what you do. You da man!!
Thanks for reviewing this movie Cody! Truly a classic! And sadly the only classic of this franchise. By the time you get to done with Wicked Prayer you'll be pissed at the sequels for even trying to stand next to this iconic film.
Dude… you spoke such great things about one of the greatest films. I’m so glad you’re a fan of this movie. It solidifies my faith in your taste of film. It makes me really identify with your reviews, your opinion and your wealth of knowledge of movies. The Crow is by far, one of the best comic book based films, of allllll time. James O’Barr’s writing and illustrations are phenomenal. His creation of Eric Draven and the entire “Crow Universe” is exquisite… Brandon Lee was and is that character. I truly feel like this franchise could be and should be rebooted…. But it won’t be easy in the casting !! Awesome review Sir !!
Cody, Thank You so much for reviewing this movie. It is one of my all-time favorites. Everything you said about this movie, I agree with you 100%. And you should check out Brandon's previous movie before this "Rapid Fire" (1992). As a action movie fan growing up, this was one of them. It's not perfect, but it's enjoyable.
This has been and always will be my favorite movie ever. I watched it when it first came out to rent, it was the 90's and I was in teens, but it has always stuck with me. Not only because of how the movie was made, but because of the original comic book writer, and his story.
Interesting story I heard was Brandon Lee was contracted for three films. That changed fit obvious reasons and I think they tried rehashing and using ideas for City of Angels to be the franchise. We would’ve also explored more of the Crow’s powers had Lee still been around. The Skull Cowboy may not have been deleted, his powers go away once his mission is complete but since he goes saves Sarah he’s stuck on earth.
The thumbnail for this video cracks me up. Cody looks awesome yet hilarious in face paint. FYI I LOVE this movie!! Grew up with it and have seen it a million times and it never gets old
What a great film. Very eerie considering what happened recently with Rust in relation to this film, very sad. But The Crow is an awesome film, and a Halloween favorite of mine. Great review Cody as always ✌
Awesome review Cody, Check out the movie "Rapid Fire" that Brandon did not long before the crow, its a really solid action movie and he is once again really great in it, I think you'll dig it a lot.
I love this movie. Watch it every year at least once. Too bad what happened to Alex Proyas. He did this and Dark City. Two awsome movies, but after that.. well Gods of Egypt says hello.
Its not just the films it was also a tv show called The Crow Stairway to heaven with Actor Marc Descacos (I butchered that probably) The Crow was finished by a stunt performer Stahleski who stood in to fill in to finish the film in select scenes, If you watch the film again the scene where Brandon lee is smiling at the kids was the actual last scene he filmed alive…The crow was the first film I ever saw in theaters & not to mention the soundtrack was amazing
Before Spawn, before Blade there was the Crow. A wonderful film and Brandon Lee was fantastic. If he were alive today, we would probably know him as John Wick, Tyler Durden, John Preston and perhaps even the Joker. He had everything. He was handsome and very talented and man that guy could FIGHT. He was so fast that i get the impression in Rapid Fire that they slowed down some of the footage like they had to do with his father. If he were alive today, we would all know his name.
God I love this movie so much, I still watch pretty regularly. As for movies to watch with Brandon, Rapid Fire was pretty epic in the 90’s and Showdown in Little Tokyo is a wild ride with him and Dolph. As for the sequels……..city of angles has some cool crow symbols at the deaths but that might be all and I couldn’t ever try on the 3rd or 4th. Looking forward to the rest of the review brother!
The Crow has very nostalgic tone to it. It’s the way it was filmed that felt old. I just watched it tonight. A part of me felt sad watching it cuz I remember watching it so many times on VHS when I was a 7 year old kid. Yes, I watched a bunch of R rated films, including Chucky, and Dracula. Lol
Great Review brother 👍!!Glad you brought it out I haven't seen it in at least 10 years and watched it right after your review.I forgot how much I loved it and the memories that come back man! That Cure song goes perfect when he's jumping rooftops!Yes I bought that soundtrack back then as well. Its pretty sad what happened to Brandon and Bruce and eerie circumstances surrounding their deaths. Both of their last films strangely involving death to the characters they were both playing sad shit I think about everytime I revisit the crow
For those asking, I did not do this review in reaction to the death of Halyna Hutchins. Eerie as it may be, I was watching this movie with intention to review it hours before they announced the tragedy on the set of Rust.
Kinda crazy how shit happens like that
Bruh....thats some synchronicity shit right there. Spooky!

Fun fact; Brandon Lee before The Crow was in talks with Stan Lee and Marvel about doing a Shang-Chi movie.
he would of been….awesome in marvel mcu
This movie was great, start to finish. The sequels were lack luster.
Edit: Showdown In Little Tokyo. You might thank me later Cody.
showdown in little tokyo is awesome and has one of the funniest fucking lines of all time in it.
Great review, Cody.
Always thought Brandon could have made a helluva Batman.
The timing on purpose Cody ??? Thoughts on Alex Baldwin situation ??? Crow is a classic though 🔥
EDIT: Typed this two minutes in, great review. Hollywood needa learn like why is a real bullet even there!
RIP Brandon. I met James O'Barr hears ago and asked him about Brandon. He couldn't speak highly enough about him. Agree with you Cody, I've never seen the sequels. I got my comic autographed as well.
*years
One of my favorites. Brandon shines all throughout this.
The really sad part is - The Rust incident clearly shows - Brandon's Death change nothing. Hollywood still doesn't give a f about human life or safety. Even 20+ years later.
Cody, have you checked out The Crow TV series? It’s called The Crow: Stairway to Heaven. It only had one season and aired in 1998.
Is it good?
One of my all time favourites along with the lost boys. The crow city of angels is really good to! You should try showdown in little Tokyo, him and dolph kicking ass haha
Great shout-out to Are You Afraid Of The Dark, Cody. As for The Crow(1994), I really enjoy the story & characters. The late Brandon Lee nails his part as Eric Draven aka The Crow. The villain is pretty good. The soundtrack is really good for all the alternative rock fans. Overall, a Gold standard certification rating for me. I truly enjoy this film with every rewatch.
I love this film but it always leaves me feeling depressed thinking of what could have been.rest in peace Brandon.
Masterpiece! Legends live forever✨
Rapid Fire was also great
Love this movie to death, one of my favorite comic book films.
Wow, the timing.
Brandon Lee has a cool action flick titled, “Rapid Fire.” It is an amazing 90’s action movie that isn’t trying too hard.
Brandon Lee the BEAST.
One of the best soundtracks, you can hear.
Checkout Shodown in Little Tokyo & Rapid Fire. Dude was incredible and had charisma in spades.
This was the first movie I went to see once I could drive and the first soundtrack I bought. It had a significant impact on me.
Can we talk about the shirt tho, like Yessir, love "Are You Afraid of the Dark?"
Wicked ass props to you Mr OG. And thanks for representing all the homeboys. (I know it’s not this movie, just humor me)
Also, nice “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” t-shirt.
Tin tin used to scare me a little when I was a kid, lol. Michael Wincott is a badass.
To this day, I wear a black jacket and boots because of the crow
Great movie. Rest In Peace Brandon Lee
I had a film school teacher who was the locations person on The Crow. He said working on it was a joy and a burden to work on in Wilmington.
He did a movie called Showdown in Little Tokyo with Dolph Lundren and Rapid Fire.
All time favorite movie!! Thank you for this review. I agree. It should never be remade
Eerie or opportunistic?
@@Stringer13ell of course and asshole like yourself would make that comment
You can't remake perfection 👌
Before Spawn, before Blade there was the Crow. A wonderful film and Brandon Lee was fantastic. If he were alive today, we would probably know him as John Wick, Tyler Durden, John Preston and perhaps even the Joker. He had everything. He was handsome and very talented and man that guy could FIGHT. He was so fast that i get the impression in Rapid Fire that they slowed down some of the footage like they had to do with his father. If he were alive today, we would all know his name.
I didn't watch this until I was 31 and god damnit I loved it. I cannot bring myself to watch the sequels. Brandon Lee is PHENOMENAL
