I find it interesting how Warding is only really viable/useful in Expert mode. Bosses/enemies don't do enough damage to _wardant_ sacrificing DPS to reduce the damage by a few points. And in Master mode, they deal SO MUCH damage that *sometimes* being able to take ONE (if that) more hit at the cost of losing 28% damage is a horrible trade-off.
Actually in Mastermode armor scales better (1 armor = 1 less dmg, on normal its 1 armor = 0.5 dmg) and you have one more slot. 7*4 is 28 more armor. That means every hit you take is reduced by an additional 28 dmg. This is especially good against bosses who spam smaller attacks that are hard to dodge, ideally turning them from like 30 to 2 dmg. For bigger attacks it is not that useful like 200 to 178. So its use really depends on the case.
When I was doing my no defence run, I was able to kill Plantera on my 2nd attempt with 1hp while it was at like 14000 hp. I felt like a god dodging everything

The scariest thing about Skeletron is that being extremely careful is extremely IMPORTANT for fighting him, but yet he's timed so.. if you take too long because you're being TOO careful... You lose anyways
As soon as I saw, "but I can't use armor...", I remembered the first episode when he mentioned he did a livestream of not using armor at all. But I could be mistaken.

I basically did the pre hardmode part of this challenge unintentionally in my first play through because I kept putting all my armour in the vanity slot.
I forgot how big Skeletron was, and made a horribly small arena for him on Master Mode. Miraculously, I managed to kill him first try, but then there's Queen Bee… First time around, I forgot I was wearing my fishing armour, so you can guess what happened. Second time, I brought more options that I didn't really make use of before, and a heart lantern, and about half way though, I could tell I would win. At less than 10% health, she was just too fast, and I was limiting myself to fighting inside the hive, so I died again…
The Honey regen single handedly makes poison ineffective. You acually heal instead of losing health or not even healing or taking damage. The healing effects of heart lantern+campfire+honey is pretty much a game changer. Add crimson aurmor in pre-Hardmode makes you able to out heal the eye of Cuthulu, Queen bee, and the moon lord. (Not sure what other bosses you can out heal, tell me if you know)
I just now realized that the wall of flesh's eyes and mouth squish together when it goes through small holes. Don't know how I didn't see that before but it's pretty freaky

Always make sure to have a shield of Cthulhu for an additional dash. Also try to get a class emblem for the 7th master mode exclusive slot.
