    I miss this show, I used to watch with my mom on PBS and then Daisy had a show on for a brief time when the Food Network started up. My mom always liked her b/c she made her proud to be Puerto Rican as so many images of the time when she was growing up and myself was either gang members, or drunks or household employees that didn't really get much screen time or respect when they were on the screen. There are so many great representations of Puerto Rican and other Latinae culture these days but Daisy was a trailblazer in her own little way back in the 90's.

    I always enjoyed watching Daisy cook. As a huge family, mami taught us early on the making process of the delicious pasteles. We never used cornmeal and yes, for most, it’s done during the holidays. For us, it was a way to make ends meet as a large family. In an assembly line fashion we would assemble the pasteles and although wrapped individually, we would tie two together for a llunta. With that same masa and pernil, mami also made alcapurrias. Those were great memories and very delicious recipes.

My mother was an excellent cook. And she alway added milk to the masa. I have yet to find a video where they add it so the masa is soft. Thank you for your beautiful aura.

    • @Melatina77
      @Melatina77 8 лет назад

      Cynthia Andrade Too much water. I've done that too. Pour enough water just to cover the rice. Put your pinky finger in and just touch the rice. The water should just come up to your first knuckle. Cook on medium heat just until the water is almost absorbed stirring one or twice. lower heat a little, Cover and (do not touch it) for 20 min. Stir, cover again continue cooking for another 15 or 20 min on low heat. That's what I've been doing to get the right consistency. It's all trial and error good luck. Practice by making a little white rice till you get the timing right.

I think she had an affair with some guy in Food Network with one of her new cooking shows. It's sad that she's living all alone now in New York. in Dominican Republic eat pasteles too

    • @echa_caldo
      @echa_caldo 6 лет назад

      Lilliam Rodriguez yeah of course ya do....but it's because in the 40's Puerto Rican opended schools , orphanages in hospitals all over DH/HD dominiHAITI or HAITIdomini and when Puerto Rico took over the sugar cane business (Domino's) after Cuba fell off the sugar cane business with the United States ....then the Puerto Ricans took over and bought out all the sugar cane fields in HD/DH dominiHAITI or HAITIdomini thats how , and why ya eat it now....see we introduced these foods that now dumb in a cans eat....after the 40 thousand Boricuas who had to go migrate out there to work the sugar cane fields in those times because after Puerto Rico offer dumb in a cans to work in the sugar cane fields ....the" dumb in a cans " said...(no nos vendemos por caña) meaning; (We won't cut or work for sugar cane). So in those times boricuas had no choice but to work out there and settle there and that's how boricuas brought our dishes to Stop.domingo, and also the dumb in a cans who have come to Puerto Rico in Yolas boats to P.R who have learned a world of knowledge with our foods and condiments (sazon,recao, adobo, sofrito ex..) and then those dominiHAITANS took them back to teach your people on how to eat our Puerto Rican foods and dishes. And also the dumb in a cans who have come to NYC to rub elbows with the NUYOKRIKANS and learned how to make , pastelón, Mofongo , relleno de papas, arroz con gandules, and carne guisa, pollo guisao, alcapurrias , morcilla, tostones rellenado con camarones , tripleta sándwiches and more...so y'all assume ya make it too..lol but it's because the history we left off over there just like in other places. See learn the history don't assume with what u thought or what u thought u knew but didn't and don't know. Capiche?;/) Heck, even Cubans have told me...con tanta hambre que había en Cuba , y mira que los gandules se lo daban a comer a los puercos, gracias Analía boricuas por enseñar nos a comer arroz con gandules ahora se come en Cuba "damn with all the hunger that is going on in Cuba and we were giving the pigs these gandules to eat thanks to the Puertoricans that now we too also eat it in Cuba. Even the word " tostones Is Puertorican, Cubans calls it....plátanos a puñetazos, and dumbinacans call it " patacones. The typical dish from DH/HD dominiHAITI or HAITIdomini is called " Bandera , these red beans (de carita) with a Face that only dumbinacans eat, and maduros and a steak oh and " MANGU" that's what y'all eat ....but to say oh we make them too, sure y'all do, now y'all do. Lol cause of what the Puerto Ricans brought over and what ya picked up on and learned when ya come over in Yolas boats to Puerto Rico,and come to be around NUYOKRIKANS in New York. That's how. It's like saying that tacos are from China and Chinese food is from Mexico, it's just. Lie, don't confuse the wasabi with the guacamole ya know:)

    The masa differs from house hold to house hold. But the meat should be a typical guisado where it is mixed with the sofrito (Wich already has cilantro), achote oil, that extra cilantro (if you wish) and salt/pepper. Add a little water, not as much as Daisy used though, but just enough to cover meat. Let that boil on high heat then turn down heat and simmer for as long as it takes for the meat to be tender. This method doesn't water down any of the flavors and when done, you don't have to discard excess liquid because you're able to use the delicious drippings with the meat to fill the masa.

    Hi Angel! I am looking for a recipe of a colombian salsa, it was pickled jalapeños. I saw it on one of her episodes years ago, but can't find it anywhere :( Thank you!!!

    • @angellovef
      @angellovef  6 лет назад

      I don't recall a pickled jalepeños recipe in her show. but perhaps it was the spicy pineapple vinagre? that recipe has peppers in it. google it and see if that's the one you are thinking of. there is a recipe page on the food network for Daisy.
