  • save yourself some money by doing it yourself. Make your shed cooler, better looking and brighter with windows. I will also be installing the trim once I paint the shed so I could paint trim separate. I can post a video of that if you'd like. Hope you like the video!!

    This was the most detailed and helpful window install for shed I’ve stumbled across. I’m less nervous about adding a window to my she shed. Thanks so much!

    Something about “safety first” even from someone who obviously knows more than you is reaffirming for a beginner like me. I shouldn’t stress out or get frustrated just because Im taking my time taking things slow and making sure I understand what I am doing and doing it carefully. Thanks Brother! Very clear and informative video.

    When you apply the caulking over the flashing on the outside of the wall you should not apply caulking across the bottom of the window opening (14:30 in video - ruclips.net/video/al6X6ygJQXg/видео.html). If any water does get behind the window flange it will drain away if there is no caulking across the bottom..

    Only detail I would've added, depending on how much rain you get with your minimal gable roof overhang, would be to angle the upper and lower stud wood the window sits in up about 3 degrees like a slight hill, so basically anything missed by caulking and flashing, gravity will ensure that water drips out of the window, if it were to ever get in. Fantastically detailed video, whether this is done or not! Thank you!

    • @infotechsailor
      @infotechsailor Год назад

      I've also heard that you shouldn't caulk the bottom outside of the window so that any leaks could drain out. But then again it's just a shed!! Solid job GRINGO!

    Great video but definitely start from the bottom when flashing the opening and keep layer on top as you go up. This creates a “step” for moisture or any water/rain that might get in to go all the way down instead of finding its way to the framing.

    I am so happy to have found this video! I need windows in my new garage (built by a shed company so has the exact siding yours has) for ventilation. I have been determined to just find small windows that will fit between the studs so I don’t have to cut them. That limits me to basement windows turned sideways or RV windows. Yeah I know, not attractive. But easy. After watching this, I’m certain I can do it. Late 50s single woman here who has built her own decks and such, but windows have me shaking in my boots. Headed to town for new windows!

    Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that type of window( with the flange for screws) supposed to be installed BEFORE the siding goes on. There's replacement windows for when u already have the siding on the house. Thats probably going to leak.

    Will those t1-11 vertical grooves above the window channel water down into your window seam underneath the flashing tape? Maybe those grooves above the window should be filled with a high quality calk? to block such passage? Even that calking of the grooves is a less than ideal setting, as the occupant (you or somebody down the road) would have to periodically check the condition of that calk from year to year.... While you might do it, some other unaware homeowner/occupant might not...?
