    I like how you mentioned either starting at the furnace or working backwards. Working backwards is the easiest for me.

    100% agree about rules of thumb. A lot of guys oversize furnaces without considering ductwork size, which results in a lot of expensive repairs.

    Is there software to design duct systems

    • @abledistributors
      @abledistributors  Год назад +7

      absolutely, you can find software for almost every aspect of HVAC design, and I may get into that on my designing duct system video, but just like smart digital gauges, I still think technicians should know the how and why, once you have the knowledge you can quickly assess the duct work on a quote or repair. most of my work history is in repair/replacement, so most of my information leans that way, so often I see contractors replacing equipment and then ending up shocked that the original issue remains. lets face it, our trade is difficult, I've said it before, we need to be a sheet metal worker, plumber, electrician, computer programer, and a detective..... we need to kneel in front of a thousand furnaces before we can quickly assess whats going on. I love our job ! ( sorry for long response )

    What about the pressure drop from each return and supply register? Should I subtract another 0.06" to account for the registers on the longest run?

    • @HVACOvertime
      @HVACOvertime 11 месяцев назад

      On the friction rate worksheet you only subtract the PD from the worst case supply and return grilles. ACCA allows you to assume .03" for a supply and .03" for a return. It is recommended that if you know the model of grille being used that you use the actual pd from the performance data.

  • @Gutter-Snipe

    First off .1 is too low for most wet evap coils, you should should manufactures lit so the guys know they have to determine it, last A coil i did last week was 2.5 wet. good first vid drive home air filter pressure drops, example same job last week I installed 2 20 X 25 X 5 media filters to make the math work.

    • @Gutter-Snipe
      @Gutter-Snipe Год назад

      well i should say made the math work for the Air velocity i wanted for a quiet system that is very energy efficient for the blower motor,, also you need the blower performance lit from the Manufacture to do this all. hope you touch on that

    • @abledistributors
      @abledistributors  Год назад +4

      @@Gutter-Snipe with most of my videos, I try to keep it very general and hope the technicians search out the exact equations for what they are working on, there are just to many variables to hit on them all, the carrier N coil, or if an A-coil is two row, three row or four, fin on tube or micro channel. as for the duct work, I mention a top take off, but the numbers change if its a square throat scottie, or a three or four piece adjustable take off. my hope is that my videos provide a starting point to inspire techs to keep learning. thanks for checking out our videos, more to come.
