That's a cool idea even for those of us who just plod along on our 2-5 mile walks. Don't have to stop & open the bottle to take a sip. Thanks, Braids/Gretchen. (Nice to keep seeing your sunshiney face.)
Super helpful seeing where to find it in the store! nothing worse than wandering around one of those box stores for an hour and still not finding what you're looking for.
This was my idea but my husband gave it life (brought home tubing one day and surprised me).. It's surprising this has not been thought of before!! This "straw" and my $1.00 butt pad from Dollar Tree were my 2 favorite items that were ultralight and cheap. Great video!
@@HikingwithBraids It was my original idea....Haha..... so forgetting him was ok...ha ha. Really you did not even need to mention me. Hope you are doing well.
Oh! Another thought... if you are looking for video ideas. I’d like to see what you eat now that you are back home, like what are some go to meals you eat each day. I could listen to you talk about anything!!! 😊
Glad you showed this. I hate those bladders. But, where was the 🔥. It was cold at work today and I thought I could warm up to your fire. Lol. Love and prayers
Yup, I remember seeing you use that on the AT but I also remember it looking like you had black mold in it. You touched on this in this video. I guess it was just discolored from the water additives but it still looked strange. I'll probably be using one of these on the AT but maybe only when I have clear water in the bottle. Thanks, John from MI
Thanks so much for sharing this awesome video!!! I went to Lowe's this evening and bought a roll of this tubing. I'm gonna put it to good use Friday. 🙂 Please keep the videos coming. Happy trails to you!!
@Hiking With Braids I like the simplicity of this. I have seen other youtubers do similar but use a lot of different parts and gadgets etc. I have seen some others use the mouthpieces of bladder systems. While that is an extra piece of equipment, I can see the benefit of it being a closed system when you're not actually drinking from it. I could see an open system such as this leaking or spilling if tipped over in a tent or maybe some kind of critters or Cooties getting down into the straw and into the bottle etc.🤢 Since the making of this video, are you still using this system as described or have you started using some kind of mouth piece or some other kind of system?
I had some 1/4" tubing on hand so I tried this but it won't fit through the opening in my Smartwater caps. I'm wondering if maybe your cap is another brand. Lifewater, maybe? I love this idea!
I like your idea/technique! I recall seeing a video a year or so ago where someone did something similar, but with more parts. It seemed to require too much assembly. but, I like what you did! Get the right size tube and put it in the water bottle! I'm also glad that you showed the tubing on the shelves in the store...maybe that much detail made me feel more comfortable, because I find hardware stores kinda confusing and intimidating (something, anyway). And I like that this is so simple! ... BTW, did you cover the end that went into your mouth? Like how CamelBak did with their system (at least back in the 90s). I'm just wondering if the mouth end of the tub might be a bit rough on you.
Great idea but can you tell me if you had a problem with the hiking straw going down to far when you close the lid? If so how did you fix that? Thanks for the tip I did use it on a backpack yesterday and did find that problem.

Great tip. Please make sure you tell people to get the lead free vinyl tubing not all vinyl is lead free or what's called food grade tubing.
I soooo enjoy watching all of your videos.... Even though I don’t hike..😝👍🎉
So good! I drink so much more when I use a straw. Thanks for the tip 😃
Short and sweet and very helpful. Any tips from someone who has hiked 2,193 miles you better take note. Beautiful wedding ring. Very nice Jerry.

Yes I forgot to mention your husband! Thanks for the awesome gift!

Thanks, Braids! I've been hankering for a setup like that ever since I saw yours.

Very nice hack. Take Care and Keep Exploring The Outdoors.
I love this hack, Braids! Thank you
Great stuff! Thanks, Braids!
Great video for my next thru hike. Thanks a bunch
Thanks for sharing. I am definitely a visual person and your demo helped! This was very helpful hack!
Just watched your live presentation!!!! You did awesome!!! So proud for you!!!
You went to Lowes and only bought tubing. If I had gone, I would of taken an hour tour through Lowe's, then buy the tubing.
Yep, except that I'd still be wandering around wondering why I was there.
Glad you showed this. I hate those bladders. But, where was the 🔥. It was cold at work today and I thought I could warm up to your fire. Lol. Love and prayers
Go to a good old fashion Hardware store like Ace and you can buy the tubing by the foot. It is like $0.30 per foot.
I think it’s pretty inexpensive everywhere . I paid $2.96 for 10 ft.
Great hack! Thanks
Thanks again Braids another great video!!!😊😊
You are Truly an inspiration

When are you going John? If you decide to vlog, let me know. I’ve enjoyed your comments and would follow your hike if you do video and put on RUclips.

Love this tip! Also, where is your headband from?? So cute!
Ok I'm making a run to HD to pick some up, what a good idea.👍🌲
Thanks. This idea hit me on a hike this morning. Glad to see your application of it.
Excellent!
Thank you so much! I don't want to use a bladder, and the water-bottle adapter kits I'm finding are a minimum of $15! Happy trails.

Btw your hat is so cool.

The smart water caps are the same size as the lifewater ones and I’ve used it for both. Not sure why yours wouldn’t fit. 🤷🏼♀️
@@HikingwithBraids Hmm...Guess I swapped them out at some time. I have been using these same bottles for a LONG time! Thanks! 😊

You'll want to make the straw at least an inch longer than the bottle. if you close the lid, you'll need to remove the lid and rethread the straw.
Where did u get the mesh water bottle holder?
Waymark Gear but you can find them on other gear sites too.
It’s not food grade
I don't remember yu ever using a straw
