Thanks for this. although its kinda cramped in this computer case gonna be a fun challenge to do this.
First things first, you gotta go over Resolution Vs Refresh rate, where your CPU will determine the max fps you can get in the game for like 144hz or 240hz gaming. Like a Ryzen 3 1200 will do 4k 60hz gaming without much issue with a 1080ti. If you have a intel i5/i7 from the 2xxx K series or above, you're probably still set for playing most games at 60hz-144hz depending on the game and what you want to do. Linus just put out a video in regards to that. and if you have an i5, some games don't really scale past 4 CPU threads, so that needs to be looked into as well as paying to get just hyperthreading isn't going to help much there. As far as upgrading an older intel platform, can't say I'd recommend to do that with Ryzen around, Maybe if you already have a Z series motherboard, and are getting the i7 K part super cheap maybe. But otherwise considering that AM4 is supposed to be supported until 2020 I'd highly suggest instead of getting an older i7 you just bite the bullet and upgrade to AM4 with a cheap decent B350(starts at $70 or so) and an R5 chip, likely 1600 if not then an R3 1200, 1400 is in a weird spot, the CPU will cost the same(1600) and the upgrade package will cost the same if the i7 is near $300. The rest of the system can still be reused, except for the RAM of course which needs to be DDR4, likely dual channel as fast as you can get it for the least amount of money. Or just one of the "Ryzen Optimized" kits.
Street Guru thanks, this video is really just about the physical process of actually replacing your CPU (the steps for AMD and Intel are essentially the same) not really about whether you specifically need to. Regarding your point about not bothering to upgrade an old system, I have to disagree. Replacing the motherboard as well is a far more invasive procedure and not everyone wants to go that far. There's also the fact adding in a board and potentially new, and still rather pricey, memory is a lot of added expense too. And if you're sitting on an basic Pentium and your board will take an i5, for example, you'll still see a decent performance uplift from a relatively low-cost, simple upgrade.

Totally get the fear, but honestly with your current PC it would probably be relatively simple to turn it into a really powerful gaming PC. AMD has stuck with the same CPU socket for years now, and you could get an affordable Ryzen 5 2600 for it, and then look at upgrading your graphics card. They're 2 pretty straightforward updates that would make a huge difference. You can do it! :)
Keep in mind, you have to ALWAYS update your BIOS before putting the new CPU! At least as far as I'm aware, if you upgrade from any Intel i3 to i5, i7, or i9 you have to!
no thats so wrong, you need to upgrade your bios usually when the cpu came out after the motherboard is released, for exemple you have a mobo that supports 6th gen intel cpu, when the 7th gen cpus came out and you checked on your motherboard provider website that it support it you are likely to update your bios to be able to get that fully supported.

when you load optimized default settings in the uefi/bios, you also need to enable xmp again or your fancy ram sticks arent gonna run at their intended speeds but rather the default speed for that version of ram, i.e. ddr3, ddr4 or ddr5. xmp might also be called something a little different but its the setting that tells your ram sticks at which speed to run, you can check your ram sticks to see what that is, it should have it printed on the litttle sticker on the side and might look like this "3200 14-16-16-32"

I get a quick red flash on my MB next to “CPU” it quickly goes away, but then a white light appears next to “VGA” and a green light next to “BOOT”. Did I totally screw up or is this something that can be easily fixed? Also, what else could I have done to try to find said files/devices in bios? Is this the reason for the black screen and white light?

I figured since I had a relatively new CPU (upgrading from a 3900x to a 5900x) I should be fine and everything would still be compatible. I installed the new CPU and now when booting up the monitor never connects. RGB lights up, mouse and key too..
Thank you so much.
4:48 - a chunck of thermal paste dropped onto the motherboard ;)
Birdy I’m talking about the old thermal paste which felt off onto the motherboard itself (to the right) as Dave cleaned it off the CPU cooler :)
@@Lasse_Johansen That's not thermal paste, it's part of the tissue.
BurntBacon
Hmm, you’re right! Still ironic as Dave follows the scene saying how clean everything is :)
@@Lasse_Johansen True.
I am planning to upgrade my i7 3770 to an r5 3600. Its currently the bottleneck in my system. My GPU is a 1660ti and I have 16gb ddr3 1333mhz ram and an old Intel dq77cp mobo. Im planning to get corsair vengeance rgb pro 16gb ddr4 3000mhz ram and a b450m mortar titanium. I've seen videos and it seems to be simple. I'll be keeping the same 240gb ssd that has Windows installed. What do I have to do once I've got the hardware installed? Would really appreciate any help
Simple steps? I'm lost.
take off cooler, take out cpu, put in new cpu, put in new cooler

Did it worked out for you, so I Know you didn't lie.
@@AzogticMettroskik thats the most basic description on how to do it, just follow the steps in the video
@@owenanderson5414 what about the BIOS step? I've never done that and for some reason it gives me anxiety. Do you download a program into an USB and then boot your PC?
Indeed, BIOS will just recognize it and you should be good to go
very helpful vid thanx... i always do a backup of my original bios 1st before installing new one
"thanx" lmao
great video but why wuld you use the stock coole on an i7
Hey, so I’ve got a pc with an intel cpu in it, and I want to replace it with a ryzen 7 chip... is that possible without changing the motherboard?
I'm afraid not. Each of the processor makers have different sockets for them which means you need a different motherboard for Intel and for AMD.
PCGamesN ok, thank you!
Where do i download thermal paste from?
I can’t find my motherboard BIOS update on the manufacturers website, what should i do?
i went from amd3400g to amd 5700g and only got no signal , no boot or anything , everything is so compatible I didnt think I could go wrong
Hi, good video!
I have to change next week Ryzen 5 1600 AF and replace it for an Ryzen 7 5700G, both with stock fan cooler.
Do you think i could do the replace without taking out the pc box the motherboard. I ask in terms of the back plate fan cooler holds in the place or it will fall... I use the computer as a server and I have little time to change it, or in another words, i have to do the change as quick as possible.
Thanks in advance
The first step should also be testing if you want to see how your old cpu compares to the new one.
Help! Okay so I got this PC, used, and Everytime I turn it on it comes on then turns off
JTGaming could be a ram problem
Can I sell my old CPU on ebay and get a few bucks?
yeh aslong as it works
Guy in green is the Peer Gynt character of this video.
So do you HAVE to update it? Like what if it’s already up to date do you skip the updating part?
How are you supposed to know when you have to update your Bios. They weren't very clear
the left guy actually looks like mixture of chris hemsworth and jason momoa
I realize this is an old video but was hoping for some help. I currently have a aorus b450 elite mobo and a ryzen 7 2700x cpu. I have been wanting to upgrade and my friend is always hyping up and showing off the speeds his intel cpu goes in games so I was thinking of getting a i9 10900k. I would need a new mobo if I got a intel cpu. But beyond that IDK what I would need. with my ryzen the thermal paste came pre applied. IDK if ill get lucky like that with intel and idk if ill need to upgrade the bios on the new board. and beyond that is it just you unplug everything from old board and plug it all into new board? any extra steps?
