In the past, I found various speeds of RAM just caused the overall RAM to run at the slowest speed sticks. However, when I tried to upgrade my 2 x 8GB sticks of Ripjaws RAM with another 2 x 8GB sticks of Ripjaws RAM sticks that are a slightly faster speed (other than that, all the specs are the same), I found they don't play nicely together. Hi. I recently ran into some problems which may be because of not enough ram... My computer starts to stutter at simple tasks and my memory usage idle is 60% or something like that. I was using 2x4gb but now I am upgrading to 2x8gb. I stopped on HyperX Fury because it was recommended by a friend and it's also more affordable than let's say corsair (at least in my country). Thanks for the video :))
In my first build, I want 16 GB of RAM. If I had two 8 GB sticks and ran them in dual channel, would that equal 16 GB of RAM? I don't think I'd upgrade since 16 GB will be pretty much all I'll need forever. I've been researching and watching enough Techquickie and NCIX Tech Tips to know that 1 + 1 isn't always equal to 2 in the PC world.
There are already games that recommend you having 16GB of RAM.Sooner or later,we will need more than 16GB of RAM...Soooo be ready to get another 16GB stick in some years.

Hello: My PC currently has only one, 2GB DDR3 RAM card. Also, it only has 2 RAM slots. In order for me to expand its RAM, I will need to take out the 2GB RAM card and insert 2 brand new DDR3 RAM cards into the available slots. My question is. since I am replacing all the RAM, would it matter which type of DDR3 I buy and put in the PC? Do the other specifications such as Freq etc matter any longer ? What is the significance of 12800 vs 10600 vs 1333 ? My processor is an Intel i3 (Quad Core). Many Thanks, Jon
Abi Grajo speed doesnt matter, if you have different speed, all you dims will clock at the same speed as the lower one, you can buy a 1333 and 1833 mhx, but both will run at 1333 mhz
When i first heard the song Memory, I thought it was a song dedicated to RAM. Only towards the end of the song, did I realize that it was about human brains.
I dont understand why buy 2 4gbs of Ram instead of buying 1 8gb of ram?? I did not understand the explanation. Also I have been going around google and youtube trying to find an answer to the question: How to find the max Ram Frequency that your motherboard supports?
"32gb being the norm by the time you're watching this." Literally putting in 32gb for Star Citizen shortly after they just posted about Star Citizen. Meta.
I have two slots installed DDR3 4GB in each, so can I upgrade to 16GB with 4GB & 12GB? Or what would be the max RAM I can use and what would be the combination for two slots?
Not nessesarly as 8gb is the required standard for gaming however i see 16gb becoming more common, and between 8gb and 128gb, it wont make a difference much in games however for heavier workloads that are more demanding like rendering in premiere or using autocad, more ram (and cores) are better.
ram is the short term memory for your pc, basically what its using right that second is in the ram, everything else is in storage (hard drive or solid state drive) so it depends what you do for how much you need. 8 gigs is standard and acceptable for the average user, 16 gigs for current gamers and 32 gigs for video editors and 'future proofing'
depends on how practical we are though, 16GB I have right now doesn't even go over 50% even though I have lots of tabs open and gaming at the same time
I doubt that 32GB will be mainstream anytime in the next 5-10 years, considering how expensive RAM is today. I just upgraded today, my 16 year old PC, to 8GB from 4GB, and have yet to notice any significant increase in speed as a result. However, upgrading the system disk to SSD at an equivalent cost to the additional memory, provides a much greater improvement in actual performance than the additional RAM. Consequently, it would not surprise me to learn that SSDs are having a very detrimental effect on new computer and memory sales. I doubt NVME and similar faster speed advancements will have the same effect on the market as SSDs, because those newer/faster technologies practically require a new motherboard. My 16 year old PC can take advantage of an SSD via its SATA interface but not so with NVME or similar advancements which don't have a standard SATA interface.
even though this video is 5 years old, it is still relevant. I just went back to the online store where i ordered my PC so I was able to upgrade my RAM from there.

I will buy a new pc in 2017 with an Amd Zen and a Nvidia Pascal. Until then i will stick with my current pc.
so if i have 1333 speed in my old 8 gb ram and want to updgrade to 16gb ram with 1600 speed would i
face any problem ?
7 years ago mate
I have a 8gb DDR3 RAM is it ok to add w 4gb ddr3 RAM i have only 2 slots in my mother board
Soo can a 4gb stick and 8gb stick be compatible for me to have 12gb of ram overall?
You will want the same speeds on them. Because otherwise it will get weird.
so why cant i just download some?
You obviously don't know what RAM actually is, do you? It's a computer component, not a piece of software.
Jose Suarez but but it works :( i downloaded 128gigs of RAM to my HDD now my Computer is a Server :)
Jose Suarez but the guy on the ad's say that yiu can download it for free
Some people are too young to understand these old stuff, I guess it's sorta like the old 4chan /R things..I haven't been on 4chan in years dough I was just a lurker though.

4 years later (long time in a computer world) and this is still relevant
I bought Corsair vengeance rgb pro 3200mhz 16gb. Will it be compatible with my b450m Mortar and Ryzen 5 2600
Yes, just check the speeds in your bios to make sure you're running the speed you want.
Yep it worked for anyone wondering
SonicXRage yes, in this case, 2 sticks of 8 means 16 gigs! (:
itsTheGremlin Thanks.
Someone said no one would need more than 640 KB of RAM and look where we are now... :P
640 kb ram, pfft, all we need is 64 kb like the trusty commodore has.
There are already games that recommend you having 16GB of RAM.Sooner or later,we will need more than 16GB of RAM...Soooo be ready to get another 16GB stick in some years.
Hi, I was looking at Amazon this RAM: Crucial RAM 32GB Kit (2x16GB) DDR4 3200 MHz CL22 Laptop Memory CT2K16G4SFRA32A. It says 32GB Kit (16GBx2)...but it also gives a higher option, what's the maximum I can go?
My laptop is : HP - ENVY x360 2-in-1 15.6" Touch-Screen Laptop - AMD Ryzen 5 - 8GB Memory - 256GB SSD - Nightfall Black
Shit, i bought explosives instead of ram.. Damn it!
So I got given some piece of electronic sticks and I wanted a pet ram, I am raging 😠😠😠

It should
it works nice
Already did it. It works.
Does it work completely fine? 'Cause that's exactly what I will do to mine.

how many channels does this guy have my dear
I have 8gb ddr4 in single channel. Can i put another stick from a different brand with the same speed in? Plz answer me PLEASE
Yep, same as atoms.
Don’t think so
Yeah you're fine
You can always count on Linus when you need to upgrade your machine
Can I use two 4gb sticks and two 8gb sticks
no problem

So I guess different CL's isn't a problem? Can I have two sticks that are the same mHz and GB size but one is a CL15 and the other is CL16?

I'm about to upgrade from 4 to 16 (DDR3L 1866 SODIMM), I'm excited for a smooth GTA San Andreas experience.
Yes, I know it's 2020.
SanAndreas works pretty well even on a 1GB RAM, lol.😂
Where you buyed iT
Upgrade with same otherwise will show you a message of incompatibility
Today I change/Upgrade 4GB DDR3L with 8GB DDR3 oh it was a bad experience it behave like zero RAM, so much lag playing pubg it was impossible to play
@@qayyumjan4297 Before I had put a new RAM, I took out the old one. That's called common sense.
i have hyperx fury 16gb ram!!!!my favorite!!!!
I will have too (in kit)
I am getting 1 8GB (DDR4) Stick and upgrading to 16GB with an identical stick later on. I like HyperX becuase they are cheap, reliable and great value. The heat-spreaders also look nice.

Hello:
My PC currently has only one, 2GB DDR3 RAM card.
Jon Volta , I have the same question
I want to upgrade to 8 RAM from 4 RAM . So can I just buy 1 4 RAM and add it on my pc to get 8 RAM?
yes
And if I add 8 RAM do I get 12 RAM in total?
Uros Radibratovic im not sure about that, you should go on the linustechtips forum or tomshardware to check that out :)
yes. but make sure that the speed is the same.
For a second I thought I was watching a Tech Quickie video lol

I dont understand why buy 2 4gbs of Ram instead of buying 1 8gb of ram?? I did not understand the explanation. Also I have been going around google and youtube trying to find an answer to the question: How to find the max Ram Frequency that your motherboard supports?
"32gb being the norm by the time you're watching this." Literally putting in 32gb for Star Citizen shortly after they just posted about Star Citizen. Meta.
In 12 gb ram can i use 4gb and 8gb stick to get dual channel
Pritam Biswas NO, if you have a dual channel mobo with 4 DIMM slots, the best for 12gb is 2x 4gb and 2x 2gb of the same capacity and speed.
I have two slots installed DDR3 4GB in each, so can I upgrade to 16GB with 4GB & 12GB? Or what would be the max RAM I can use and what would be the combination for two slots?
Hi. What about different brands with different capacities but same standard (same DDR3)?
Thank you. God bless, Proverbs 31

Can you do a tutorial on how to attach the ram into the laptop
I have 8gb of ram and I don't even know what that means. Does ram makes your pc faster and games?
yes, the more ram the better
Not nessesarly as 8gb is the required standard for gaming however i see 16gb becoming more common, and between 8gb and 128gb, it wont make a difference much in games however for heavier workloads that are more demanding like rendering in premiere or using autocad, more ram (and cores) are better.
PaddyDoesTech thank you guys
jokertheghost PR You'll need to know a little more before you consider buying anything
ram is the short term memory for your pc, basically what its using right that second is in the ram, everything else is in storage (hard drive or solid state drive) so it depends what you do for how much you need. 8 gigs is standard and acceptable for the average user, 16 gigs for current gamers and 32 gigs for video editors and 'future proofing'
This guy sounds like Bob the tomato from Veggie Tales
LE4F it’s Linus from Linus sechs tips
4 years forward, yes, 32 gb is mainstream for RAM as Smartphones are getting 12Gb.
depends on how practical we are though, 16GB I have right now doesn't even go over 50% even though I have lots of tabs open and gaming at the same time
@@itpugil I'm more than satisfied with 8 gigs.
@@melellington4892 Obviously, apps will require more RAM to run smoothly, so yes, in 5 to 10 years, we may see some 256Gb of RAM mainstreaming
Can i put lets say 16gb of ram and keep the 8 too
even though this video is 5 years old, it is still relevant. I just went back to the online store where i ordered my PC so I was able to upgrade my RAM from there.
i have 2x4 (8)GBs of ram if i wanted to upgrade to 16GB would buying 2 more 4gbs or 2 8gbs be better?
LoL I have the exact same question! Do you have an answer already?
i went with just getting the extra 4 and its working perfectly well
so i guess it most likely doesnt matter
wait so what did you do?
Matt's Moving Picturezz hes using 4 sticks of 4gb to get 18, which will have better performance then 2 8gb sticks
I bought new RAM but find out that is have different voltage then the one im using now, thas is matter? What problems can occur?
P.S. I will not mix different voltage
Depending on your motherboard and BIOS. You can actually match the voltage on them.
ConvertBrony is this possible on all Mobo's? Because I have a hp2820h & don't have that option in my BIOS.
@@iceagepenguinrace9788 Mine unfortunately did not. Because they have to be the exact same type of ram.
