Why is it necessary to upgrade the BIOS before a CPU Ryzen 5 upgrade to a 300 series motherboard? I am in a situation where, despite many email communication exchanges with MSI, MSI still cannot advise me how to overcome the failures I'm encountering with the BIOS update ... apart from wiping my computer, reinstalling Windows 10, and trying to update my BIOS again. I have a new CPU in hand, ready for installation, a Ryzen 5 on the Windows 11 compatibility list. I wanted to install the CPU and thereby let Windows 11 to update my BIOS (since this feature isn't available in Windows 10). My current BIOS version hasn't been updated in many years. In case you want to give any advise, I think my BIOS file is original (rom 2019). Thanks for taking the time to point out the safety concerns you did in this video, which is something that MSI failed miserably to do. I just finished commenting on MSI's ultra abbreviated CPU upgrade video in which MSI appears to be applying its marketing department's concept of "keep it simple, stupid" to the philosophies of the technical support department. When I see stuff like that, it just makes me wonder what the story is behind it. I wonder if the entire marketing department ousted someone who was laterally transferred into technical support, then quickly rose to the top, as people sometimes do ... even when it makes absolutely zero logical sense (yet it still happens a lot everywhere, especially in companies with nepotism).
Reason for the BIOS update is same as if you want an Office 2002 software to recognize an Office 2008 document (since this file type didnt exist before 2002 just for example), you have to show Office 2002 how a 2008 file type looks/works. While in case of these Office softwares, a quick update from Microsoft does the job as long as you have internet, the BIOS cannot access internet and is specifically bound to your hardware(motherboard). On similar notes, since you have to feed the new BIOS update to your motherboard, and not in your operating system, you'd need a USB stick with the latest BIOS update file (specific to your motherboard model). Then the upgrading procedures for these BIOS updates with USB sticks are commonly available in youtube. Note that you will most likely need a FAT32 file system for your USB stick which is usually default in any USB stick below 32gb. For larger sized sticks, use a simple exFAT to FAT32 converter and continue the procedure. Although my comment is 2 months late so by this time I think you've solved your issue in one way or another, but I hope it answers some of your queries. Can't talk much about the corporate shenanigans as it's almost pointless to ask big companies much for individual customer service as their primary concerns are usually "big groups" of people or a whole locality of people. Doesn't make much sense but thats the way for giant companies, one or two dissatisfied customer is barely their concern.

Yes. If you're going from Ryzen 1000 or 2000 up to Ryzen 3000 or 5000 you're good to go. You'll just need to update your motherboard BIOS to do it. However, if you want to go to Ryzen 7000 from Ryzen 1000, 2000, 3000 or 5000 you're going to need to upgrade to a new AM5 socket motherboard and DDR5 RAM as Ryzen 7000 CPU's are not compatible with AM4 motherboards which is the socket used by Ryzen 1000, 2000, 3000 and 5000.

Can't wait for the next saturday to swap my old 3600X to a 5700X3D which cost me around the same price as my old CPU a few years ago (and not sold by a sus vendor but on Amazon by Amazon for 190 euros). My Asus TUF B450 Plus Gaming is ready for that little bad boy (bios up to date), then i will have to wait for something similar to a 7900 XT at the price of the current 7800 XT or GRE to remove my old 5700 XT and it will be almost perfect (overkill for my monitor but anyway. I use a 1080p... 32:9 monitor sooo if i want to upgrade for something like a 32:9 1440p G9 OLED, it will be too expensive ^^').
Yes, new motherboards should all support Ryzen 5000. However, for people with older systems looking to upgrade from a Ryzen 1000, 2000 or even a 3000 series CPU to a Ryzen 5000 series CPU they will need to update their BIOS to be able to support their new CPU.

When I was about to do the update it said - BIOS not compatible with your PC! So, can I just go ahead and install the new CPU? Thanks in advance!!!! NOTE I currently have an AMD A-8-7410 APU with AMD Radeon R5 Graphics 2.20GHz I am replacing it with an AMD Ryzen 7 2700X 3.70GHz 8 Core UA1914PGT 16 Thread AM4 CPU just so it will pass the Windows 11 standards!
So no windows reinstall etc Bios stuff?
No
Update tour bios in windows before you stick in your new cpu. No need to do anything else after that
finna chnage my 1700x to a 5800x3d im so lit rn wooooo
Have an HP 405 G4 Ryzen 5 Pro 2400GE. I'd like to upgrade to the Ryzen 7 4750GE. Both have AM4 sockets and are 35Watt processors. Is this possible with a BIOS upgrade?
Just watching this, as swapping my 3900x fo a 5700x3d tomorrow.
Advice needed. What should i upgrade from ryzen 5 2600.
Mother board prime x370-A
Gpu - 1660 super oc
How much you looking to spend and what resolution to play at?
@@Phoenix11720 1080 sometimes 1440 :) lol
spending wont be a problem. Im just looking for Great gpu/cpu/motherborad combo for when I do start streaming
5800x3d is best cpu with that motherboard for gaming. Then it's just how much you want to spend on a gpu, you can get a 4070 for 600 dollars
same here, im thinking of buying the 5700 + 6800xt, got a R5 3600 here as well with the 1660 super but dunno if it'll make a big change since i initially wanted to buy the 7800x3d however that means i need to renew everything cuz it aint am4 :(
Just tuching the case only Works wehn the power supply is plugged in.
No need to update chipset drivers then?
I'm going to be upgrading my Ryzen 3 3200g to a Ryzen 5 3600 (which is already supported on the current bios version I have) in the next few months. After installing the new CPU, will Windows automatically adjust / recognize the new processor?
Yup, it'll boot as normal. You shouldn't run into any issues, especially since you're going from Ryzen to Ryzen.
U should get a 5600x
I have a ryzen 5800 x so no good upgrade till maybe ryzen 8000
what if my bios was already updated and my computer won’t even boot i’m locked out and it says PIN not available anyone know a fix to this
I updated my bios put in the new cup when back into bios it says the new cpu is in and working when I try to load into windows it shows blue screen can yall help?
Check pins aren't bent or it's connected to mobo
Hi there, I am looking forward to upgrade my 2700x to 5700x, but the things is I am still on bios 2304, how many bios do I have to upgrade? or just the latest one ?
Little late but just update to the newest one.
You don't need to update from each one.
Video helped me so much!!
after upgrade from ryzen 5 to ryzen 7 my machine woulg not boot, it turned out my mrmory had to be turned down from 3600 to 2600
hi nice video mate, i want to upgrade my R3 3200g to a R5 3600, my question is can I use the same stock cooler that came with the R3 3200g on the R5 3600, thank you :)
Thanks for checking out the video and for the question. Both the 3200g and 3600 have a TDP of 65 watts, and as far as I know, both come with the same Wraith Stealth CPU cooler. If the 3600 you are buying does not come with a cooler for some reason, then yes, you can safely use the Wraith Stealth from the 3200g. Just be sure to clean off the old thermal paste and apply new. 🙂👍🏻
@@Maraksot78 oh thank you so much:)
do i still need to do a bios update if i have a b 550 mainboard?
@macaco2885 but is it necessary for it to work?
I did everything, but my monitor says no video input, now i probably have to pay 200€ to get it repaired *again* , i always fuck it up
I had this same issue when I updated my GPU from 3060 to 4060 . I had to cut my pc off and on 2x and I had to plug my hdmi directly to the GPU
Do i have to update my motherboard if im going from ryzen 5 to ryzen 9 ?
Not necessarily. It depends on what motherboard you currently have, the chipset, it's power delivery components, etc.
Update the bios first before installing cpu?
When upgrading to a new CPU, yes. Update your BIOS first with your old CPU installed then swap in the new one.
No mention of tpm?
Bro, can the Ryzen 3 laptop CPU be upgraded to Ryzen 5 or 7 or not? My laptop is Asus M4Dao
save ur money and get a build
I have a Ryzen 5 5600, what is the " " "best" " " ryzen upgrade for it? Not the most expensive, maybe the best value for money. I want to play cyberpunk 2077 with no problens high settings (1080p 60hz "monitor") and maybe, just maybe, be ready for GTA VI.
5600 should be sufficient enough to play any AAA games at 1080p 60fps. Maybe u need a better GPU?
better gpu
Good tutorial 😊
can you replace an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X with a Ryzen 7 7700 using the same MB?
No. Ryzen 7000 series CPU's use the AM5 socket and Ryzen 1000 - 5000 use AM4.
@@Maraksot78 I ended up checking out the specs on PC part picker and the older one is socket 4 and the other socket 5. Thank you though, I really appreciate it!
BUT MY PROBLEM IS THAT MY RYZEN5 5600G GPU DOESNT SHOW UP IS IT FROM MY B450 M PRIME OR WHAT
Thank you 😊
Great video!
I'm upgrading from a Ryzen 3700x to a 5800x3d. Do I have to update the chipset drivers?
I've never done this before, so I'm a little nervous!
Thanks
I did all this and now i am getting no display and pc won't even power on...help please I have tried everything and nothing is working. If I put back my old 2700x everything works fine Again...
What CPU did you try upgrading to? If you're going up to a Ryzen 3000 or 5000 CPU you're going to need to update your motherboard BIOS first.
@@Maraksot78 with a magnifier I saw that 1 bloody pin was a bit to the side, I put it back right and now it works fine. Thanks for the replay man!
Can I change ryzen 5 with ryzen 7 ?
Ryzen 7 5800 3D better in gaming and low watts .in 2022
Can confirm ryzen 7 5800x3d is still very good just got July 31 2023
lmao i had the ryzen 3 2200g and i upgraded rn a ryzen 7 5800x like you in the video 😄😆
What happens when u didn't know to update our motherboard and u already put new CPU in
You'll need to swap your old CPU back in, update, and then swap the new one in again.
Can't wait to give a little twist to my Noctua NH-U12A that was never removed in 4+ years ^^'.
Hey could that fit in a ps one with flat screen tv wait it all ready is. Awsome😂❤❤
Leave the PC plugged in but PSU off.
Yes, thats how you ground yourself.
@@Fredrik7lesrsly? what if u standing on mozec
3600 - 5800x3D
All these motherboards come with amd 5000 support now.
Yes, new motherboards should all support Ryzen 5000. However, for people with older systems looking to upgrade from a Ryzen 1000, 2000 or even a 3000 series CPU to a Ryzen 5000 series CPU they will need to update their BIOS to be able to support their new CPU.
I think I just ruined my whole rig
Why is this so stupid complicated…
