I beat the NES version. I made it all the way to the end when the game froze as soon as I started to fight SHREDDER. I cried hysterically and chucked the controller as we all use to do. Few minutes later I gathered myself and started over again from the beginning and beat the game in it's entirety. Over 30 years later and this is still a major memory and one of my proudest moments. Lol
God these kids don't understand who great it feels once you've beaten an NES game. I still haven't beaten this game. Mike Tyson's Punch out still scares the hell out of me. And I finally beat Super Mario 3 last year. I swear I will not leave this earth until I've beaten alot of these games.
yeah but wait until you beat BATTLETOADS! i beat that game when i was 15 hardest game on the NES to this day! took me 3 years of constant playing to beat it also!@@jeremyreed4951
Dude I'm right with you they just don't even know what they're doing, it's got to be in the top 3 hands down and has the best fighting system out of any tmnt game.(from the Batman Arkham games) and they don't even mention it?!?!
That's what I'm saying the tmnt 03-05 games great I still play though it today the 80's/90's versions deserves there spot but show some love to the 2000's turtles they are classics now to.
#4 being The Hyperstone Heist was the best surprise to see. I still have my Sega Genesis AND that game as well, so I definitely need to start playing it again.
Turtles in time always be number one. Fav line from that game “my toe!! My toe!!” God i spent hours playing this game on the snes growing up. So worth it
I put this on Twitter But I'll say it here too They NEED to make a tmnt video game just like the batman Arkham games But you can play as any turtle any time each with their own specialties And then have online co-op capabilities where you all could be at any part of the map fighting or solving crimes or just doing whatever So many ideas...
There is one called TMNT Out of the Shadows. But it was buggy but when it released. But has the strike-counter combat like the Arkham games and different specialty and skill tree for each turtle.
Yes, the 2007 GBA version is a hidden gem, and while it doesn't have the fast gameplay of Turtles in Time, it still feels very nostalgic, using the formula of River City Ransom. It's a shame they didn't use the right footage here. They should really be more careful with the facts.
The TMNT game for the GBA is actually from 2003, Because its based on the cartoon show from the same year. And it was made by KONAMI, Ubisoft did made a TMNT game in 2007 for the GBA though but its not the same.
I've beaten the NeS version. Hardest part of that game was that it came out before saves. So you had to beat it in one go. Besides that, once you got to the point where you could stock up on the "sai" weapon (the weapon that took up half the screen when you threw it), the game became pretty much cake enemies-wise, though the Technodrome maze gave me nightmares.

Turtles in Time is #1 on my list too. Hyperstone Heist is another one of my favorites too. I just bought TMNT II: The Arcade Game for Nintendo from Disc Replay yesterday and I'm working on passing Stage 2. I also ordered TMNT Tournament Fighters for SNES from ebay and I can't wait for it to arrive. Cowabunga!!!
Just finished TMNT 4:Turtles in Time on Super Nintendo Last week with one of my friends the game and the system still work perfectly. This top 3 is exactly how I would placed them well done Mojo you guys clearly know whats up on this one.
For me, the original Turtles arcade game is still the best. I love Turtles in Time also, but there's something about the original arcade game that can't be topped. Maybe it's just nostalgia? But I freakin' LOVE that game with a passion! =)
I have a shell of a time with all of the teenage mutant Ninja turtles video games and let's not forget about teenage mutant Ninja turtles Shredder's revenge along with dimensional shell shock
I was thinking the same thing bro i finished the video and was thinking where was battle nexus in the list? but oh well everyone's opinions are different :)
Agreed. People think I'm crazy when I tell them that. I put the NES version at the top of the list. However, they did a great job summing up TMNT1. I never beat in and I never knew anyone who did lol.
Agreed, it's a good port version, but it's not even close to the arcade. They also didn't differentiate between the SNES or Arcade version of Turtles in Time, which, while close, have some key differences as well, enough that makes them different games as well.
oorat the Snes version had the rat king, Slash, as well as Bebop and rocksteady as he bosses where as the arcade version didn't have them as bosses. Also the first technodrome wasn't in the arcade version seeing as you get sent into the time warp the moment you finish the sewer surfing level. There was so many differences between them it was like day and night.
Love the list you got #1 & #2 dead on .. I can't tell you how many quaters I dropped on those and #7 I played that for weeks--months Was crazy addictive .. good job ..
The 1989 Arcade game and Tmnt:Oots are my favorites. The 1989 arcade one for Nostalgia and Out of the Shadows for having the best fighting mechanic in tmnt game ever. (Not including Injustice 2 even though the turtles are in the game it's not a "Turtles game" technically)
while i did have fun with some of the others like turtles tournament fighters, 3, 2 and 1 were my favorites by far, especially the Manhattan project. while not quite as graphically enhanced as turtles in time, the gameplay i found way more fun due to the diverse environments and bosses and the better special moves for each turtle. plus the music kicked ass!
Daniel Hughes I honestly never played em so I can't have any say. However, the ones I played for ps2 were good attempts to bringing back old fun ninja turtle games but they do not compare to Turtles Through Time. I've yet to play a game that compares to that one. ANd I've played many.
every tmnt game has a common theme. play as a turtle, defeat shredder and his goons, rescue April and the city while eating big pieces of pizza. why don't they make a tmnt rpg game?
Exactly what confused me! Talking about a 2007 game but saw a foot clan sign from 2003 series! thanks for clearing that up. Mojo needs that clearification
Well i have the best game on this list and its still funtioning on my super Nintento, one of the best Consols ever made :D Because they work after 16 or 30 Years. Do this to a PS 4 or a X-Box.
Hassan Raza Ah true. Though it wasn't unique. The Hyperstone Heist was the exact same plot with almost the exact same intro cutscene. Both The Hyperstone Heist and Turtles in Time were about saving the Statue of Liberty (and I think all of Manhattan actually). Well spotted Hassan. We were over generalising.
I'm really surprised to hear you say that you never beat the 1989 ninja turtles game before! It took me about a year with hours of practice every day when I was a kid, but I've never had a problem beating it since.
I actually made it to the foot base after beating the giant mouser boss when I played it as a kid. it would be until years later that I would end the game.
So, you mean that Manhattan Missions and Game Boy games can be on this list, but the 2K3 trilogy (except for MN) don't even deserve a honorable mention?
KRX50 I agree to that. Why would they show that game, when they were talking about though TMNT game from 2007, which is based upon the same movie of the same name? That was pretty dumb!
I think I commented on this video before, but I love it! However...I gotta put 1989 tmnt arcade at #1 by a mile. It's the picture perfect tmnt game! Also the arcade game released in 2017 is a great addition!
@@KenMasters. that would be awesome! As far as I know that hasn't happened, but it would be a great idea. Part of this is also generational, because I was in the first group of tmnt fans from the 80s and tmnt 1989 arcade was the first perfect turtles game. Objectively, there's been better games, but it was the first truly perfect tmnt game and holds a special place for all of us from that era.
@@Brbos06 It already happened in 2003-2005, and they're better than the 2017 reboot. I first played the arcade game in some Chuck E. Cheese back in 2005 and it was so boss, they even give out Pizza Hut coupons for a free order when the home version is purchased. And yes, there was also Asterix, Aliens, Bucky O'Hare, Crime Fighters 1 & 2, Gaiapolis, Metamorphic Force, Monster Maulers, The Simpsons, Violent Storm and X-Men. But I agree, TMNT '89 will always have a place in our hearts.
The simple TMNT game plot: Shredder and Krang hatch plan to take over the world, kidnap April O'Neil, hire all of the Rogues to stop the TMNT. The TMNT defeat all the Rogues, Krang, and Shredder, stop the world-takeover plan, rescue April O'Neil, and eat a pizza in celebration. Repeat for next game. 30 years later and I'm still loving these boys and this simple plot never seems to get old!
For nostalgic reasons, the original arcade is my #1. You made 3 war buddies in Show Biz and Diamond Jim's and gained a special appreciation for the kid that finally dropped a token for Donatello.
I haven't played many TMNT games. But I actually really enjoyed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Battle Nexus for PC. There were so many levels and it was pretty challenging for the age I was. Not only could you fight in Manhattan, but also go to another dimension, fight the Triceratons, play as Slashuur, Karai, Casey Jones, and Splinter, fight the Triceraton, Traximus, also fight the Ultimate Ninja, Leatherhead, Ninja Rats. I just checked and the game got very negative reviews. I'm surprised to see that. I really enjoyed the game growing up.
Can't believe the NES Tournament Fighters isn't in this. It was probably the fastest NES game I've ever played: put it in turbo mode - BOOM! Loved that game!
I think Smash-Up deserved more than just an honourable mention. Still, #1 was the correct choice and it was good to see Tournament Fighters get some love.
Speaking of the TV show... To me, the original '87 version is the best - or at least from a nostalgic standpoint, because the 2012 Turtles somehow managed to top that by combining the humor, originality and tons of nostalgic nods of the original (and '80s & '90s in general) with the grittiness and [somewhat] source material aspects, and awesome combat scenes of the 2003 v. - all the while mixing it up and adding brilliant new features and twists (like Karai being de facto Splinter's daughter, but taken and raised by Shredder), not to mention the HILARIOSITY ratio ;D Plus, the MUSIC and tone were universally BETTER and more memorable than the 2003 TMNT (which, don't get me wrong, I really liked the dark, mature movie/OG comics vibe but like I said, 2012 succeeded in combining both '87 & 2003 by making it more fun and catchy, but at the same time being dark and serious when needed...) I also enjoyed and appreciated... basically, LOVED, how the show saw the turtles grow and evolve with each episode, individually and as a team, having an overall entire arc that managed to skillfully conclude what it set up, or set out with. Expanding on each of the turtles' distinct separate features/looks and delving more than ever before into their emotions and relations with each family member (each other and Splinter, April, etc.) was just a BULLSEYE HIT, in my opinion.
Hey what if the ninja turtles get their own video game series with a story, combat skills, and map from marvel’s Spider-Man and comic book loyalty and boss fights from Batman Arkham games?
The thing is that there actually was a TMNT GBA Game from Ubisoft which was a 2D brawler that was very simillar to the later Scott Pilgrim Game. #5 is just a totally different Game. Like you said, it is based on the TV show and this one was still from Konami, had the full Teenage Mutant... title and was released much earlier than TMNT. Konami also did release two handheld sequels based on the show, 2 also GBA and 3 DS, before Ubisoft got the rights and released TMNT on the GBA.

The SNES version.
"Drown my goldfish in water" 🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😆😆😆

Well it was as you planned🦍

No mention of the 2003 cartoon video game? that game was super fun!
Yeah, I dont understand how they missed it

By the way that first Ninja Turtles movie is a classic. It's a shame parents complained about it.
Parents hate everything their children likes. It's parents 101.
If those same parents watch the movies of today; they'll have a straight heart attack lol
If they would have made a movie based on the original turtles, they REALLY would have been pissed.
Yeah, I guess they were expecting the same goofy concept as the show.
man...my parents were the shit I owned the top 4 games on this list haha..thanks mom n dad ...I miss the 90's...

"Number 5 TMNT Gba version 2007" This is actually a Konami game made in 2003. TMNT (2007 video game) was my all time favorite TMNT game.

It was.
Black Guy by far this one was the best omg
Battle nexus
I been a fan for a long time, but if you want to know the truth the TMNT Arcade game was the best honestly.

Good job WatchMojo. I glad Mutant Nightmare was mentioned. I wish TMNT 2003 (console version) & Battle Nexus made the list. Those were great games.
Haven't even watched yet but Turtles in Time better be #1
HD xbox version is great haha
In my humble opinion, it deserves to be at the top.
Came to say the same. We better be proven correct.
I played the hell out of that game!
It is number 1.
The sound track for tmnt 3 was so underrated.
How could Turtles in Time NOT be number one? That game was awesome and I never had a doubt it would take it's rightful place at number one.

Finally a spot-on list. For me, Turtles in Time (SNES) is the best, then TMNT II (NES), TMNT III: The Manhattan Project, then the first NES game.
The Arcade game was amazing
Konami made lots of great arcades back then based of cartoon shows. Platinum Games seems to be doing okay in that department.
uhhhh yall used the game footage from the tmnt gameboy game based on the 2003 tv series for number 5 not the 2007 version

Don't forget shredder's revenge
No love for the 2003 series games? They weren't perfect, but damn, they were good TMNT games.
So true those were good games
One of them was in the hm's
they used the 2003 footage for number 5 lol even though it was supposed to be the 2007 one
If you got past the water part in the old NES game you were a legend in school
"Kawafuckin piece of of dogshit!"
3:34 that's my fav TMNT game officially made!
I agree with this list. 👍
There’s no beating Turtles in Time!
Definitely deserves the number 1 spot of the greatest TMNT game of all time! 🐢🐢🐢🐢
So glad Turtles In Time is number one. I used to love playin that as a kid.
You kinda screwed up on #5. That footage is from the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles GBA game based on the 4Kids series, not the 2007 movie
KRX50 I agree to that. Why would they show that game, when they were talking about though TMNT game from 2007, which is based upon the same movie of the same name? That was pretty dumb!
Not to mention they showed footage of the arcade game from 1989 when they mentioned the nes port of said game.
I think I commented on this video before, but I love it! However...I gotta put 1989 tmnt arcade at #1 by a mile. It's the picture perfect tmnt game!
Also the arcade game released in 2017 is a great addition!
What about the remake trilogy of the classic TMNT arcade games including Battle Nexus and Mutant Nightmare?
@@KenMasters. that would be awesome! As far as I know that hasn't happened, but it would be a great idea.
Part of this is also generational, because I was in the first group of tmnt fans from the 80s and tmnt 1989 arcade was the first perfect turtles game.
Objectively, there's been better games, but it was the first truly perfect tmnt game and holds a special place for all of us from that era.
@@Brbos06
It already happened in 2003-2005, and they're better than the 2017 reboot.
I didn't know there were 10 teenage mutant ninja turtle games.
There's a lot of TMNT games
AF Vegito Yeah apparently XD
+Rodger Smythe same lol
TMNT 1989 - I remember playing as a kid and I’m pretty sure I remember beating it.. and it was my absolute favourite game.. 😅
#5 was based on the 2003 animated series, not the 2007 movie.
For nostalgic reasons, the original arcade is my #1. You made 3 war buddies in Show Biz and Diamond Jim's and gained a special appreciation for the kid that finally dropped a token for Donatello.
Hey, #5 looks like it's based on the'03 cartoon, not the '07 movie.
Why you no put the ps2 version on this list
is that the TMNT mutant nightmare one? I used to play that one on my ps2. I'd say it was pretty good
Can't believe the NES Tournament Fighters isn't in this. It was probably the fastest NES game I've ever played: put it in turbo mode - BOOM!
Loved that game!
The GBA version and was based on the cartoon was from 2003 do your research
True the sword of tengu is in the shredder fight.
They played video of cartoon based GBA game while referencing the movie based GBA game. Watchmojo at its finest.
beat me to it
I was a little confused by that too. Oh well, nobody's perfect!!!
Yup I knew they were going to knocked for that lol
i spent so much time on number 5 (ubisoft's, on pc) i want the disc back wherever it is!
Hyperstone heist > Turtle in time
I think Smash-Up deserved more than just an honourable mention. Still, #1 was the correct choice and it was good to see Tournament Fighters get some love.
No love for the first 2 TMNT 2003 games?
#5 was the 2003 tmnt game
sad

Speaking of the TV show... To me, the original '87 version is the best - or at least from a nostalgic standpoint, because the 2012 Turtles somehow managed to top that by combining the humor, originality and tons of nostalgic nods of the original (and '80s & '90s in general) with the grittiness and [somewhat] source material aspects, and awesome combat scenes of the 2003 v. - all the while mixing it up and adding brilliant new features and twists (like Karai being de facto Splinter's daughter, but taken and raised by Shredder), not to mention the HILARIOSITY ratio ;D Plus, the MUSIC and tone were universally BETTER and more memorable than the 2003 TMNT (which, don't get me wrong, I really liked the dark, mature movie/OG comics vibe but like I said, 2012 succeeded in combining both '87 & 2003 by making it more fun and catchy, but at the same time being dark and serious when needed...)
I also enjoyed and appreciated... basically, LOVED, how the show saw the turtles grow and evolve with each episode, individually and as a team, having an overall entire arc that managed to skillfully conclude what it set up, or set out with. Expanding on each of the turtles' distinct separate features/looks and delving more than ever before into their emotions and relations with each family member (each other and Splinter, April, etc.) was just a BULLSEYE HIT, in my opinion.
Mike Matel beat the NES version on let's play or stream.
Yup, it's also been beaten in under 20 minutes live at Awesome Games Done Quick.

MY CHILDHOOD!
Hey what if the ninja turtles get their own video game series with a story, combat skills, and map from marvel’s Spider-Man and comic book loyalty and boss fights from Batman Arkham games?
That GBA TMNT game at #5 was based on the WB cartoon that was airing at the time. Had no link to that 2007 train wreck.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed
The thing is that there actually was a TMNT GBA Game from Ubisoft which was a 2D brawler that was very simillar to the later Scott Pilgrim Game. #5 is just a totally different Game. Like you said, it is based on the TV show and this one was still from Konami, had the full Teenage Mutant... title and was released much earlier than TMNT. Konami also did release two handheld sequels based on the show, 2 also GBA and 3 DS, before Ubisoft got the rights and released TMNT on the GBA.
