You’re here because you’re trying to install a plugin, title or maybe some transitions into Final Cut Pro and you’re having issues. No problem, you've come to the right place.
First, make sure you quit Final Cut Pro, then locate the plugins, effects, titles and/or transitions you want to install in FCP. You’ll need to copy them into the Motion Templates folder which you can find in the Movies folder. If you don't see the Movies folder, just head over to your Finder Preferences and under the Sidebar settings, make sure Movies is checked. Depending on what you are trying to install, you will need to open the relevant folder for effects, generators, titles or transitions. Then drag and drop the transition into the transitions folder.
Open up Final Cut Pro, navigate to your transitions, and boom, they have been successfully installed. But wait, what if you don’t see them here, or even worse, you do, but you have a red error screen. Let’s fix both of those issues...

There is another way to do it. This didn't work for me but by going to: Your applications and right clicking on show package contents and pasting the folder directly into the transitions folder etc. By typing on your on the search bar in Final Cut Pro X contents. And pasting it directly into that folder titled "TRANSITIONS" or "EFFECTS" etc. Hope this helps cheers!

@@SoSintrealReaction >download the files you wanna add. > go to your applications and open folder to view all applications. > right click on FCPX > scroll down to show package contents > Click on contents folder and open it. > now depending on if it's a transition or effect, type in the search bar e.g. effect or transition etc.and underneath where it says searching change the search option from this Mac to contents. > > And then depending on the plug-in you're trying to add, a folder will appear with e.g. effects.localised or transitions localised and what you wanna do is click into that folder and simply then what you do is drag and drop your plug-in folder into that e.g. effects.localised folder and you're done. After this you should close and re-open your FCPX and it should be in that specific area of your workspace if not, then maybe your FCPX needs an update or maybe it's a defective download. Other than that all I can think of is restarting your Mac and then if not just see what happens. I hope this helped, cheers. :)

Thank you so much! My Motions Template folder didn't have any folders inside, so I created a Transitions one myself - could not get it to work, but you saved me! Just had to add ".localized" to the name.

Hey Brad, I have a question regarding key framing. I have key frames on the focus, prism and transform effects to create a bass hit effect to the beat of a drum. I want to copy and paste all 3 levels key frames under the video animation option when double clicking on the clip > show animation. Is it possible to copy and paste the key frames from every effect at once, or do I have to do each one separately? Thank you and keep the good work up (:
Unfortunately not. You would have to do each one separately. My advice though, is to add your effects and keyframes to an adjustment layer and then just copy and paste the adjustment layer every time you want to have that bass hit effect. I hope that helps! 😄🤞🏼

when I go to the movie folder I do not have all the folders you have.Can anyone help with what to do.
You can create the folder structure that you see manually and Final Cut Pro should be able to read the plugins, transitions, etc that you out in there.
I am still unable to see my plugins. Ive tried everything, I'm installing a motion blur from Ryan Nangle and it only pops up under titles, nothing else.
The Motion Blur plugin from Ryan Nangle is a title type of plugin only though. So that sounds like it’s working correctly. 👍🏼

Where can compatibility for fcp 10.7 be found? P.S. Thank you for your video. It is very helpful!
The owner of that website will update it eventually but I have no idea when. You could look at the table and try to figure out the pattern of how the numbers have changed for previous versions to try and guess what the numbers fort 10.7 should be.
I just updated my M1 to 13.2 and now a lot of my motivation vfx plug ins are not working. How do I fix those? I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling and still didn’t work. Please help.
Did you do a Time Machine backup so you can revert back to the previous working version of MacOS? If not and reinstalling doesn’t help, I’d recommend reaching out to MotionVFX’s support team. They should be able to get them all up and running again 😄👍🏼
I'm still stuck. The transitions folder already says "Transitions.localized" but it still doesn't show up when i open fcp. The title of the transition is there but it still shows blank. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong
What is inside the folder? Is it a transition file with the same extension as another transition file that is in the same folder that is working?

If you don't see it in your Motion Templates folder, you can create them manually. You might need to add '.localized' to each folder though.

Hey Brad! I have a few ancient FCPX transitions that don't seem to want to work even when I do this update... I've used this guide before for others but it's not working for FCPX 10.7.1 Any advice? They're cineflare transitions
Hey Darryl. If they are super old (and depending on how they were made) they might not be compatible with FCP 10.7.1. You could potentially open them up in Apple Motion if you have it to see if you can get them working and then you can save them as a new version.
Alternatively, I'd suggest reaching out to Cineflare directly to see if they can help.

I'm actually not 100% sure. I have always made sure that my Motion templates are accessible regardless of whether a drive is plugged in or not.

You can manually add the transition folder in the Motion Templates folder in movies. You might need to add ".localized" if you're creating the folder yourself.
Hi, i have a question what about installing presets in which folder should i move them?
The easiest way to get to the folder for effects presets (or custom presets) is to right-click on any existing preset and choose "Reveal in Finder". That will take you to the folder. The path is Library > Application Support > ProApps > Effects Presets

Then you will probably need to manually create them and then you’ll have to add “.localized” to them all.

inside motion templates there are no other folders?
If they are not there, you can manually create the folders yourself and any plugins you put in those folders should show up in FCP.
Thank you for this clear video Brad! But my transitions won’t displayed in my “Transitions” in Final Cut Pro. It shows your folder but when I click on that item it will show nothing. Is this because of my Trail version of Final Cut Pro?
Because at my “Motion Templates > Transitions” it won’t show my basic Final Cut Pro Transitions either. The same issue with the Compositions map, Effects map, Generators map and the Titles map.
What should I do to solve it 🙁?

It’s really weird because my computer displayed the maps but there are no content in those maps when I open one of these maps on my computer.
But the standard effect and transitions from Apple are showing in the app. It’s so weird because it’s empty but in the same time it’s not 🤔..

Is it possible to install transitions and plugins in general on a cracked version of final cut 10.5? I noticed with my cracked version my motions template folder is completely empty.. please give me some advice thank you

I have fx factory effects near 135GB , I'm using mac mini m1 256gb, I'm facing storage problem, is there any way to move fx factory effects to external drive.. i have SanDisk 1tb SSD 1000mbs...
I'm not sure if you can choose to move the FxFactory effects to another drive. FCP needs any effects to be installed in specific folders on the internal drive.

You might need to show your hidden files. If that folder already exists, you might be able to just copy the effects into that existing folder.

That doesn't sound right? Have you tried rendering them and then playing them back? Or do they appear glitchy after export?

What effect is it? That sounds like a licensing issue with the plugin you’re using.

@colours456 did you do a fresh install from the App Store or are you copying the app from another computer? A fresh install from the App Store would be best.
