check for air leaks before replacing any parts.... i`ve found a crack on the intake manifold of a customer Prius with this lean condition. some other mechanic worked on the car previously and replaced the Air/Fuel Ratio sensor, MAF Sensor and Fuel Pump but fail to fix the issue. customer contact me and brought the car over my garage, i begin the job by doing smoke test and found a bunch of cracked hoses and leak from fuel injector seals, intake manifold gasket, Throttle body air duct tube punctured ETC... i then replaced all gaskets and seals, replaced temperature sensor, Spark Plugs, PCV Valve, Fuel Pressure Regulator, Fuel Injectors and Nothing Still found and Lean Condition and Short Ft reading over 19.53 per sec, i knee in front of the car to ask good for help and looked at the intake manifold and found a crack by the plastic tab on the "intake manifold" that hold down the resonator duct on the passenger side of the intake manifold. right on top of it!!!! took me f.... 2 weeks to find that sh.... because no smoke came out of it and i smoke tested. Always ask GOD for help because, RUclips, all my fellow mechanics, Identifix, All Data, Techstream, Mitchell, and such Fail to help me but GOD did. ( Seriously I Knee in front of the car and ask GOD to Help with this one and before i finished my sentence i found the stupid crack ) Don`t Replace anything before you ohm test any part if pass the test leave the part alone, triple check for cracked hoses, intake manifold or exhaust, check every single possible area that may leak air with a smoke test, bright light or a few brake cleaner spray cans. Just sharing my struggle with all of you so you don`t have to experience what i did. Good Luck ( f.... P0171 ) Bless you all
Awesome video. I also have the same code after I replaced NEW spark plugs, pcv, thormostat, water pump, coolant and EGR cool pipe cleaned with (OCC)oil catch can installed. My was coded after drove tested for about five miles then the car was parked and engine idled. I went back and checked the intake manifold, I for got to tighten down one of the tube. Also the hoses that connected to the OCC were loose. I think that trigger P0171 code.
Very important to know when doing diagnostic work on them. Haven't seen a hybrid in awhile, they're pretty reliable let's just be honest. So a 171 lean on one is pretty cool diagnostic to see...man that PICO makes getting pump amperage and rpm measurements from capture nice! Thanks for this Cody!

It drives with no issues and averages about 43 mpgi. And it seems that usually come back on after 3 to 5 driving Cycles
Bingo, set while driving ~62mph. Thanks for sharing spec fuel pressure range as i couldn't find it. Turns out fuel pressure tested to 28psi, ran okay, poor mpg. My biggest pia was learning easiest way to connect pressure gauge inline. Result: use the quck disconnect by firewall (after taking wipers and metal cover off. Let the car sit a while for fuel pressure to decrease before disconnecting fuel line. Had to get sending unit repair line to fit the disconnect and the hose to connect to the pressure gauge tee. Other side of pressure gauge just hose connect to the metal fuel line. Used adjustable hose clamps.

Just had a Customer that was frustrated thanks to dealer spending over $1,000.00 replacing mass air flow sensor and switching valve due to Tsb and the problem was a fuel delivery as well, sometimes these techs do not take their time for proper diagnosis. I do have Zeus as well and that scanner makes mi life more easier, I would like to get pico scope.

how do you perform a fuel pressure test on a Prius? my aunts Prius has a p0171 code and I have been wanting to do a pressure test but no videos show how to do it since there is no Schrader valve on the fuel rail.

I have a 2012 Prius with 240K miles. It has a new engine, thermostat, air pump, and MAF sensor when it was 237K miles. Now, It has a Check Engine On with a P0171 code. My mechanic replaced the fuel injectors but the Check Engine is On again with a P0171 code after I drove it around 150-200 miles. I do not feel there are any symptoms with the car at all, the MPG is 45. I do not know what to do because I have spent too much on the repair cost. Do you think, I have a bad new engine?

You might have a vacuum leak.
Hi since you say CoDE P0171 can possibly be the Gas pump , is there anyway to clean the gas pump and possibly it can deliver more gas ?
No way to clean these since it’s a fuel pump “module” and is all one assembly
