As an ex IT professional I really found this video to be really excellent. But all us IT professional do is order up a load of parts and change out parts in a server/pc until it started working again. This fault finding is on another level! Well done Mike.

A very big 'thank you' to Mike for this video. For ages I had been suffering crashes and WHEA errors. Thinking this was a hardware problem, I replaced the boot drive, memory, motherboard and finally the PSU, all to no avail. Checking the PSU output voltages never occurred to me until I watched this. Only then did I notice that the 3.3v output was sometimes dropping as low as 2.8v. Turned out that it wasn't even the PSU that was faulty - simply the motherboard cable, which wasn't properly seated in the PSU. I can only assume I must have dislodged it slightly when opening the case. I fixed that, the voltage stabilised at 3.312v to 3.328v, and the machine has been running perfectly ever since. Much to my relief!
Now, if I ever get a similar issue again, the first thing I will check is the PSU. Thanks again, Mike!

i had this problem for over 1 month, i continuously had strange PC resets/turn off, and it was at random times, sometimes it would reset, and in 2-3 seconds it would reset again over and over just when windows start up, it was randomly, i was going to format my whole pc, but instead i was guessing this could be a PSU problem, i brought a new PSU and it solve the problem, for me it was my PSU it was dying due to old age, I'm just happy i got it all sorted out.

Thanks, mine were one second apart, so it was a snap to identify the correct cause of my crashes. In my case it was a missing TPM 2.0 security driver in Win10 HM 22H2 that kept triggering the event. Would always fail a GPU stress test within 10 seconds. No more though! I thought for SURE it had to have something to do with graphics, so this video saved me a bundle in an unnecessary GC replacement.

Very interesting topic Mike. Since upgrading to win11 and using amazon prime video my pc keeps freezing mid eoisode. The buttons respond to key presses but dont activate. Say oress win key get menu then no response. Even selecting shut down pc goes into cycle but never cometes. Always requires hard shutdown. I was thinking of buying a psu tester (think i mdntioned it in live stream) as my 12v is showing 10.4v in HWMonitor. The psu is an AeroCool Integrator, bought new last jan, so now after this video I am undecided. Plays games , streams bflix movies no issue. Just this prime video app which you said can have a high draw on power. Thanks for saving me the embarassment of buying a tester lol Stay safe Mike and Kath👍

I also have the issue. The problem is i tried almost everything. My pc just turn off.. 3 sec and turn on. Reboot can happend in idle/gaming whatever even in BIOS or memtest86 i experienced random restart so...
it just happend like 1 time a week, 3 times a day, 2 times a month just random.
    Things i tried (nothing helps):
    - reconnect psu cables
    - tested my RAM with memtest86 (everything is fine, but got at 1st attempt reboot)
    - tried other PSU (same error)
    - RMA my PSU (got new one lol, but still nothing even its new)
    - RMA my MOBO (asus service told me that motherboard is fine without any issues)
    - Updated every drives (nothing helps)
    - BIOS Update
    - turn off/on xmp (same error)
    - tried other power socket in home and my friend home (problem still occurs)
    - tried different settings in bios acpi_cst c1 declaration disabled (still kernel power)
    - gave my ram to my friend PC with 5800x, b550 gigabyte aero, 3070 gigabyte and they runs without any problems on xmp 3600mhz
-gave my GPU to friend PC and its also working without problems
    - bought another mobo b550 to test and it happend like 3 min after first boot and went to BIOS and poof my PC reboot in bios on brand new mobo so my x570 as asus service said is fine i guess
Now i'm waiting for decission from AMD cuz i RMA my cpu... hope it is cpu problem cuz i'm fighting with it like 1 year

Hey so I fixed my issue due one of the comments here. I had literally replaced almost every component and it was still happening. Combination of x570 and 5000 series seems the mobos don't handle voltage control well. I had literally tested every thing imaginable and it was still doing it down to individual cables. I have been having issues since about 2021 (i know, i know) and after watching your video i finally decided to rip my pc apart plug by plug and reinsert them all, and there it was......a 6 pin PSU on my power supply had so much tension on it that is was slightly cocked, which tells me it wasn't getting enough power. I cut the zip ties that were holding all my cables and realized the amount of tension on them was unreal. I plugged it back in flush, put everything back together and I haven't had ONE crash in 2 going on 3 days now, my pc hasn't EVER run this well, I thought i was just victim to bad parts. Hello Mike. This is perfect timing. This is the exact problem and error message I'm having with my new AM5 7700X on a Asus rog strix B650-A gaming wifi I've been telling you about. When I enable Expo, I get random reboots with no blue screen message. Unfortunately Cpuid Hardware monitor does not show a thing about my power supply like what you have in the video. I even downloaded the version of cpuid hardware monitor you have and it still shows nothing about my power supply voltages that I can see. My corsair power supply is 5 years old in this new build. Everything else is brand new in here. I just swapped out the memory and I'm still getting random reboots. Why is cpuid hardware monitor not showing my power supply specs like you have in the video? • @Tigerhawk30
    @Tigerhawk30 2 года назад +1

I just reinstalled HWMonitor to watch the rail voltages that you'd referenced. My Code 41s have been very random and don't seem to have any rhyme or reason to them but the odd thing is that it mainly strikes when I'm NOT doing a lot, i.e. crashing just when I have Chrome going on, for example. I always have Folding @ Home running but I also have it running while I'm gaming, and it NEVER does an uncommanded restart with 41 while gaming. I also never get a BSOD, just an uncommanded restart.
If I missed this...is there a range (upper or lower) on the rails where it might be worrisome? (i.e., +2 or -2, etc?)
Thank you, sir! I had not thought of looking at that, so one more piece of info to add to the arsenal!

    • @mikesunboxing

@@mikesunboxing - Okay. Good to know.
So, even after only about 15 minutes of looking at this, the Max for the 12V and 5V rails are around half a volt higher. In your opinion, would that be a PSU issue or a VRM issue? Or...both...?

    • @mikesunboxing
      @mikesunboxing  2 года назад +1

@@Tigerhawk30 Could be either, difficult to tell. Shouldn't really be more than 0.2/0.3 fluctuations. If it's doing it on every voltage it's more than likely going to be the motherboard not regulating the voltage correctly, but that's just guessing...

      @Tigerhawk30 2 года назад

@@mikesunboxing - And that makes sense, actually. Both 12V and 5V rails have hit max at .5V above. I've been wondering if the VRMs have had issues. The 3.3V rail is holding pretty much right at where it should be.

So, just for an update and potential future reference for any future videos you might make on this subject...I finally found and fixed my issue with this.

    +5V Min 4.776 / Max 4.896
    +3.3V Min 3.248 / Max 3.296

I was having the same issue with the Power Supply and the funny thing is you don't even need any power supply tester or try to troubleshoot like a maniac like I did, I changed it and no more random reboots or powering on off 100% GPU Fan Speeds or CPU Led error with black screen and stuff like that.
I wondered how many years I have to change my PSU after swapping and refitting cables and I had a long time to do that and that triggered me that I need to change it.
Also I noticed in my case that HWInfo doesn't report any abnormalities with rails (3.3v 5v 12v) so I think in my case my PSU (Corsair RM750X 2018) after 4 years of use must be dodgy, and to see the actual results you probably need a multimeter and I think it's kinda pointless because the only part is doing these kind of things is a faulty PSU anyway.
Kernel Power 41 (63) doesn't mean anything it's just reports on Windows Event Viewer that the Computer shuts down unexpectedly but since my problem fixed after I changed the PSU with the same brand and model but brand new I didn't have any problems ever again.
    My specs:
Corsair RM750X (2018) (Replaced with the same model but different part number)
MSI B450 Tomahawk Max II (New) (Almost 3 months of use) (Replaced the first Tomahawk Max)
AMD Ryzen 7 2700X (Undervolted via Offset -0.500mv)

    GSkill Ripjaws V 16GB CL16 3200MHZ DDR4 (F4-3200C16D-16GVKB) (Using XMP 3200MHZ already)
ASUS Rog Strix 2070 Super Advanced
    Samsung SSD 960 EVO 1TB
Silicon Power Armor A80 USB 3.2 External HDD 1TB
    Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD 3.5" SATA III 7200rpm (ST1000DM010)
Cooler Master Masterbox K501L + 1 Original Exhaust Fan at the back (New) (Almost 3 months of use)
BeQuiet Silent Wings 3 5x Fans (2 Intakes Front + 3 Exhaust Top Fans)
    Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 21H2 (2021) (Reformatted after 1809)
Edit: I thought it was my GPU at first was failing and I tested with a spare MSI Geforce GTX 1060 6GB Gaming X and it did the same thing, before I replaced my PSU and that also got me thinking that was my PSU was failing.
Edit 2: I did some sort of tests like Stress tests with OCCT and RealBench and I didn't had any problems but after I fired up Superposition Benchmark at 8K Optimized and Play some Watch Dogs Legion that did some workout out of my system doing some random lockups here and there so there's that.

I only seem to get this random crash when watching Netflix, my PC is basically brand new and full loaded. My critical errors 41 kernal have only been when watching Netflix and randomly getting a black screen and a display port disconnect with my GPU... I just don't know what would be causing this when I can play games and watch other stuff with ease.

sounds like a driver issue, might be worth checking your chipset drivers are up to date

Having an issue with my PC.
After a couple of hours gaming I'm experience a black screen but I can still hear the audio from discord and the game I'm playing. I have to hard reset the pc and the pc boots fine afterwards.
I've ran memory tests and other benchmarks to stress the pc and it appears the black screen is totally random
I'm running a 3070, 9700k, 16gb ddr4, 2tb nvme, 128gb nvme and 1tb HDD. I do have this running on a 650w psu which I've had for some years now so I'm thinking this could be the cause. I do have a 1000w PSU on the way so I'm gonna try this.

hope it fixes the problem, i was going to suggest monitoring the voltages

@@mikesunboxing I monitored the voltages for quite some time during a stress test and they voltages seem fine. The pc did however shutdown and restart while I was playing warzone. The PSU fan was also very loud so this gives me reason to believe the PSU is the culprit. When I checked in event viewer I seen kernel power 41 error message.
      Thanks
