If this video was hard to grasp, I would recommend watching Requiem's video on rolling scissors. If you found this video helpful please let me know and please do subscribe! Only about 25% of my viewers are subscribed!
No sir, I watched Requiems before this one and yours makes scissors way easier to understand so thank you! Top tip on cutting throttle. It sounds really obvious but in the heat of the battle I often forget that speed isnt always life 😁
brilliant, seeing it all in actual gameplay gave me a great understanding were ive been going wrong, i never adjust speed as much as that. definitely helped me understand. thanks
Nice video! Adding to the tools you mentioned: don't forget you have a rudder. If you need to hit the brakes hard AND do so quickly, you can almost always cross-up the ailerons and rudder briefly to create horrendous amounts of instant drag with the entire side of your fuselage. As a bonus, it also points your plane in a different direction than you are actually travelling, possibly confusing the enemy's aim. Just be careful not to induce a spin.
Hey Greg thanks so much. Really appreciate you continuing watching and commenting! I have a Dora video coming up that's really raw and uncut to give people an idea of flying the Dora around.
This was awesome! Incredibly well explained, even total beginner like me got it. It helps alot to see These things from the perspective you have in game. Looking forward to your future videos!
Thanks, great video, I’m learning dogfighting now and although I’ve watched Requim and others videos about doing a scissors I just struggle on how to initiate them. This video has really helped and I think filled in some gaps. I also struggle keeping eyes on the enemy with everything moving so fast but I think that just practice will help with that
Requiem's videos are very good for beginners so glad you found this able to complement his. Feel free to subscribe if you find my other videos helpful, have a good one.
Good video. About this kind of defensives there are also energy traps you can make when you have some alt. This is quite difficult to perform with consistency but there are some guys that makes really difficult to get close to them and if you do it you put yourseld on big risk if you fail the little chance you have. They also build great time doing that and the chances that other will come to shot you are much bigger. When I find some of those guys and I have to let them go is a shame because I know they are good and the challenge is good fun
@@Enigma89 Not really. What you mention can be one kind off but I am telling you when you have the Energy over someone and the one on de defensive. And you just can not close in to them because if you do it you are on a trap and you can just not boom and zoom because you will never have a shot. I remember the old days when the 23mm of the lagg3 was godlike and the fm a little bit different. A lot of good players were using that plane because it had retarded stall speed and controls with flaps. It was a rock as well to shot them down so You had to get close to them, they were making this rolling scissors and maybe you hit them once or twice but they had no trounblo holdimg those damage so they pulled the nose up completely to one shoting you. I have a video on my channel where you can see that kind of moove. It is called shot down by net code. Is old already.
@@Enigma89 I have as well two big tutorials about rolling scissors with live examples on the server with situations where they worked and other that they di not but those videos are on spanish so...
Excellent video and flying, subscribed! Please make more videos like this! One thing I would like to see in future videos is some external views, especially from the bandit's perspective, as I think it would help with the educational aspect. Like you could pause at key points, show the situation from multiple angles and explain your thought process etc. I'm not new to ACM but I know it can be really difficult to learn, especially defensive flying which is what most people have trouble with, so keep up the really great work!
Other people have requested outside views. I will try but I can't promise you that I can do it. Any use of cinematic views add on at least 2x or maybe even 3x the amount of editing time. Along with that the additional hard drive space to save the footage. My understanding of RUclips is that I have to release footage every week in order for the channel to grow. So the additional workload for cinematics make it very hard with a full time job and doing this on the side. Once I reach 1,000 subscribers, I can maybe slow down and release things bi-weekly and spend more time on each video. I will keep your thoughts in mind. Thank you for subscribing!!
Again a very useful video. Defensive maneuvers are among the most important elements in aerial combat and are decided by the winner and the loser. Personally, now after buying the new HOTAS Warthog, I am looking for the right settings to be able to perform these advanced aerial maneuvers. I would love to try to learn from your video. Thanks for sharing.
Learning to never cut throttle was the first major breakthrough for me in learning to fight. It’s interesting to think about adding it back in in certain situations. Although the yak can’t get its speed back very quickly afterward.
Ultimately, you will get in scenarios where you need them to be moving faster than your horizontal speed so it is helpful to cut back on the throttle. Thx for sharing your thoughts.
@@Enigma89 I think what I was missing that I got from your video was the psychological aspect. I was in a 2v1 earlier as a LA5, decided to pull up as if ai was trying to out climb/ hammerhead stall a 109, and then immediately cut the throttle and dropped flaps. The 109 whizzed past me and freaked out and stalled himself. It was awesome. Thanks for the vid, this format is great.
Nice video!! In that first engagement where you still had bombs and some distance on the guy, if your fuse is 2-3 seconds, you could try snargling him (fly straight as close to the trees as you dare, position him on cold six, and watch for the fireworks)
I had 2 second timers, I did drop them in a hurry, I think if i waited and dropped a bit when i was lower it may have worked but I was so heavy i wanted to dump them. It's the dream though when it happens XD

Nice! Would love to see a similar take from an allied perspective. I get reversed like this all the time online. Is it easier to pull off in a 109/190 than in a Spit/Tempest?
It is easier in a 109 or 190 because they roll better so you can roll and change directions faster than the Spitfires. The Tempest is very large and it can slow itself down very quickly and hang itself up so this is very hard to do vs Tempests. They also hit very hard so even scissoring across and getting a glancing shot on you will rekt you
I really am looking forward to MP, while I have noted that the AI seems to protect your six better in BOS than '46 having a real person reacting will be so much better. Those P51s seem to stall easily.
The AI in BOS is really bad so the developers compensate by giving it an easier flight model. They can essentially infinitely turn. The faster you get out of single player the better because the planes you will fly against will have lower limits of energy.
@@Enigma89 Yes, I was disappointed to see my flight pulling away from me easily, the only way to compensate is have the AI fly your plane until you catch up. I have only flown the La-5 so far but love it. All version of IL2 have that problem.
