Two things I forgot to mention. You can resupply the tank spawns from a rear airfield (not air resupply) with a Ju-52. You fly over the blue (germany) or red (russian) smoke and drop your paratroopers on that spot. If your paras land then it resupplies tanks at the tank spawns. Dropping paras also pushes the frontlines but I am unsure of the amount. For those that play DCS, the most similar server to Finnish in DCS is Red Storm Rising. They have a dynamic campaign that is quite fun.
This is the best server IMHO and also the one i only play on. I switch between axis and allies (to mix things up) everytime the map changes at the end of a campaign, or if we go through a whole planetset. I love it! It really feels like a multiplayer campaign
Good job. I agree that Finnish is by far the best server currently. The dynamic nature of the maps is what keeps bringing me back, as well as, the community. Speaking of the maps, I find it so much more interesting that what I do can contribute to the outcome of pushing the front lines, unlike other servers (Combat Box & Wings of Liberty..I do like TAW, but for other reasons) where the map ends and a new one begins....which is then repeated with the same maps, targets, spawns, etc. Subscribed.
Great video. Only thing I would like to add, friendly fire is frowned upon and repeated offence will result in a short temp ban. It happens but just try to ID before you fire. Those of un in VR tend to have more trouble getting a clear view of the plane.

I know I’m late here but I’m super new to IL-2 (like a week old) and your videos have been super helpful I’m still overwhelmed my the multiplayer works but these videos help me be slightly less lost.
Good to see someone doing these vids. I really need to get setup in IL2 again. Good to have this vid so I can maybe convince my buddy to hop on one of these days.
I decided to give the server a try. I haven't been up to practice in a while. I spent 3.5 hours playing and finally got to shoot down an enemy. There is a lot of action but I am not good enough to get involved :P so it took a while to find a poor soul who wasn't paying attention to shoot down. You were on and it seems to be a decent server.
It's the best server on IL-2 right now for a dynamic campaign IMO. Combat Box is another good server that is very different if you want to focus on late war stuff. Keep at it and your game sense will come and you will get into a flow. Would recommend to find people to fly with on the finish discord. I have a bunch of other videos that explain the other finnish mechanics so would recommend as you get a grasp on the server
played on the EU servers with markers for awhile to get the hang of spotting and map awareness, then moved to combat box. will definitely try finnish tonight
Great video! I agree Finnish is the best to play on. TAW and Combat Box are ok but don't feel as immersive plus you can play in tanks on the Finnish server, adding another layer to the campaign
Thanks for the info. I haven't played multiplayer since I got this version of iL2 because I felt at too much of a disadvantage without head tracking. I just got hattrack plus though, so I am ready to give it a whirl. I haven't played multiplayer since CloD, so it should be a blast!
One thing that confused me while playing on the server. Can you create new temporary airfields by landing at one of the airfields around the map or are the temporary airfields defined by the server?
This is a good question and I am now kicking myself that I did not talk about this. The short answer is that the temporary airfields are defined by the server. So any airfield you fly by that does not have a map icon essentially doesn't exist and cannot be opened. The longer answer is each sector has three airfields. The rear airfield (spawns all), the forward airfield (fighters + attackers) and the temp airfield (fighters + attackers and NO FLAK PROTECTION). These are all defined when the mission is generated at re-set. The temp airfields start closed and must be opened by a supply plane. You *can* land at a temp airfield before it is opened.
Hmm thank you this helps, but I could have done with a more detailed explanation of how to read the map and map icons, how they relate to the gameplay (where I should focus etc) and how they interact with one another; player controlled supply drops, but what about ai troops and tanks and other supplies, ai early warning, how do air units relate to capturing territory, flashing red unit icons , etc. Basically I still feel like I'm unaware of how to play based on the map, which was lightly covered in the first section after the intro
Okay noted, I was thinking of making a video about what the targets look like to help with that so when i get footage i can put it together. For the early warning system I would recommend this video which covers that (First half is explanation and last half is just an example) ruclips.net/video/ZkJPO7lYE7E/видео.html

Hi Weißbrot. The game is quite old and most players have all the DLC. The Finnish server goes through all of the planes that are in the game, so that is the reason why planes are phased in and out. Yeah I see some people say this but here is my take on it. With the situation of multiplayer being somewhat shunned by the IL-2 developers, there are only so many people flying at a given time. So servers just have a hard time populating. Combat Box seems like it's almost always 24/7 Bodenplatte. So having a server that rotates through all of the plane sets is a nice change because you get to experience the 'full game' or all the battle of X expansions. Finnish server is kinda average. It lacks excitement. Ground targets are boring and it’s the same every time.
