      when I was doing time for armed robbery, many years ago, I had only a couple of cassettes to listen too and Elysium was my path to escapism

    • @AlIguana
      @AlIguana 3 года назад +1

      see, I dunno. Elizium was always better live, I found the album to be a mushy messy swooshy mess (yeah, I know it was mixed to be all morphy and shoegazey and stuff, but...). I was a massive fan of the Neph from the first single until Elizium, i found it completely underwhelming. I wish they'd remix it (like, not just remaster it, but dig out the original tapes and produce/mix the whole thing differently). Like with George Harrison's album, where they recently fresh-mixed it to remove all the Phil Spector stuff. Give the tapes to Flood or someone and get him to produce it from scratch.
      Like I said, it isn't a problem with the band, or the songs (they are fantastic live). Just... don't like the recorded album.

      @@AlIguana To me the way Elizium was mixed made sense with the songs. Wright/Yates ( as main songwriters ) obviously infused a "Pink Floyd" vibe into the songs ( Sumerland/And There Will Your Heart Be Also..) so all the keyboard parts were more important and sounded bigger. And ( of course ) the guitar parts a bit "buried" in the mix. That's why, to me, Elizium is a prog-ish album.

    Great playing; shimmering guitars with repetitive beauty and stabbing chord, bass that adds depth and grandeur and drums that support the edifice of majestic darkness with perfect balance.
    Keyboards are not too overbearing and add shape and colour.

      3 albums worth getting - Dawnrazor, The Nephilim and Elizium.The latter 2 are the best IMO. I wouldn’t recommend later Nefilim or Nephilim releases as it’s essentially McCoy the vocalist with rotating members and the music IMO isn’t as good
      Others have said it but Elizium must be one of the best Rock albums of the Early90’s. There is also a Live Album Earth Inferno which is in essence this concert. But don’t confuse it as a bootleg as it’s a properly produced record

    Elizium is not only the best goth rock album of all time, but the very first progressive goth rock album. An utterly astonishing masterpiece. People often liken it to goth Pink Floyd, but I can also hear hints of goth Yes. More importantly I hear prog Nephilim, unmistakeably Nephilim, such a unique sound all their own.

    The sound recording of this concert is literal the same as on Festival of Fire, a bootleg from 1992... It was my first Fields-CD éver, although an unofficial one... But boy, did it send me on a journey...

    I saw them in 22.12.2017 in the Kentish Town O2 Arena in London- Dezember - remember drive away of the ruin of the burned Tower. A very loud and foggy show. They played Psychonaut in the middle of the show! I find- a very short show-like this one-only 1 hour- but - my Grandma says- better as nothing!

    wow 1991...where does time go

    • @TorrenOglethorpe
      @TorrenOglethorpe 9 лет назад +6

      ***** no but I still find it weird that time passes like it does. When someone says the 80's I still think if it like 20 or so years ago. Not 35.

    • @Lunatic4Bizcas
      @Lunatic4Bizcas 9 лет назад +4

      TorrenOglethorpe : Perhaps one of the reasons people like you and I seem to equate time similarly is probably due to the fact that the 80's and early 90's were replete with innovative and amazing music unlike most of the 2000+ era.

    14:30 is "trees come down" if you're listening to what was on Burning the Fields EP, it includes what is known as "The Heathen", awesome bonus factoid, only wish I knew where my 10" of One More Nightmare, with Darkcell AD B-side disappeared to :(

    Thanks to bands like Neph/sisters/mish/aae and a host of metal bands I was saved from dire late 80s
    Pop music saw shit . Nephilim was and still are my favourite band . Saw them 88 and 90 still best gigs I’ve ever been too and I’ve been too many . Saw them again 2017 and 2022 still blew me away . No disrespect to the guys in the band now but myself and sure many others would love too see the original line up back together, doubt it’ll happen . They need to tour more often and do a bloody album too long since the prophecy single . Oh and how come Carl McCoy doesn’t look any older than he did then ? Must be the Sumerian gods keeping him young lol .
