Could I just say how damn lucky we are that we get to swim around in all these versions of Mark so serendipitously recorded and posted on the internet. He never shows up the same way twice. It's a treasure trove.
Mark Lanegan cannot be placed in the confines of any specific genre or category of music. He is his own genre I simply call "Lanegan." Psychedelic Blues with a shot of whiskey might come close to describing him, but still feels lacking. There's something for everyone. He can lay down the saddest song you've ever heard in the studio, collaborate with the heaviest of rockers or the softest of folkies, play a small club accompanied only by an acoustic guitar, or, as is the case here, he can show up and just kick your ass, and be happy to tell you about it. This set is downright menacing. Throughout it he seems to alternate between the heaviest of his stuff to some of the spookier material. Like opening with Gravedigger's Song then going into what to me is a rather scary sounding Sleep With Me. Probably my favorite live version I've ever heard. This set leans a bit heavy on what were then "the new songs" but is balanced with some of his treasured older material. Definitely one of the best live Lanegan sets I've heard, don't sleep on this one.

Mark was such a talent and kind soul, love his words and songs. Still really not accepting his passing, went through some bad times and his songs really kept me going forward. RIP Mark, you are missed.
This is amazing. I've been waiting for something like this with one of the best artists currently still active. Good sound, good video, great performance.
...An era worth visiting on the one year anniversary. I really liked the way this band played the material, and some of the then recent songs like Ode to Sad Disco instantly surprised and grabbed me. The Mike Johnson era will always be my favorite of all his musical evolutions but others played killer live shows, like this one, and the insanely good Live the Wireless in 2004. Bubblegum was just so good. RIP Mark.

The views on this should be in the millions. Just goes to show what the mainstream consumes.
Jesus. One of the greats. Every person should listen to the words and the music. 🙏🏻
