This insight hit me on the last day of my first meditation retreat (quite a few years ago).
I had an extremely profound breakthrough into the nature of self and reality.
It was so shockingly simple that I couldn't believe I missed it. I laughed hysterically once it clicked.
    The insight is this...
The body is intelligent and is always showing me my path. This insight really begins to deepen over time.
The body is picking up energy, and the intelligent flow of life is always moving through it. The body is always telling me about the intelligent rhythm of life. I just need to listen and give it more attention. I need to regulate it and connect to it.
Super simple. The body is intelligent.
This direct awareness and shift in consciousness forever changed me.
I could now see how the body completely organizes itself around my self-concept, beliefs, and ideas. The body and mind are one.
Beliefs, ideas, and self-concepts have an energetic 'charge' that occurs in the body. Our thoughts impact our body, and the energy related to those thoughts gets held in the body.
The body forms holding patterns, tensions, contractions, and constrictions around our self-image. Open the body up, and the ego begins collapsing.
The ego is an energetic system that is responsible for the sense of self, sense of separation, repression of self, and avoidance of the present.
You see, as an infant, you were wide open to life. You didn't contract, and you didn't have a sense of self relative to others.
At one point, you began to viscerally detect the reality of pain, fear, impermanence, and a lack of solidity and sense of self. So you began to contract, tense up, create holding patterns, etc.
This pattern continued from before you even had a conscious memory until now.
Contracting, holding patterns, and the ego gave you perceived security (key word is perceived).
Being wide open to life as an infant is scary! We sense we have no control and we must get our needs met. We must survive.
So through continuously contracting, this created our sense of self. It gave us 'something' to stand on. Something to identify with. Something to orient ourselves around.
This was important for developing a healthy sense of self. The problem is that at one point, this simple habit of contracting simply creates suffering... and a lot of it.
Once the ego is formed and is relatively competent, you can begin transcending it.
The pattern of contracting, holding patterns, and tensions keeps doing themselves completely mechanically and unconsciously.
You feel an emotion you don't like, and you contract. You feel energy arising inside yourself, and you contract.
Over the course of 10, 20, 30 years, this begins to repress and store a lot of energy in the body.
The body holds onto all this stored energy, and we habitually keep it trapped through rigid holding patterns.
From this point of view, spiritual awakening really takes a turn.
If the ego is a complex energetic system that manifests deeply in the body and habitually closes it down... what happens if we open the body up?
What happens if the emotion and energy of the ideas, beliefs, self-concepts, etc., that close us down are processed and released?
What happens if we pay close attention to our holding patterns and contractions and begin opening up?
    The ego begins to collapse!
Do you ever wonder why you always hold tension in the body? Why it's numb? Why it's stuck in holding patterns? Why it feels contracted?
    This is why.
Another core insight to this was that without really being embodied (being in the body), I could NEVER be authentic. I'm simply too repressed and disconnected from myself.
How can I accept myself and express openly and honestly (authenticity) if I'm always repressing, avoiding, and escaping myself? I can't!
I need to connect to all that I am in order to be fully authentic, which includes the body!
In the western world, we typically view the body as a dumb hunk of meat. This is completely wrong and only shows the amount of ignorance and repression that happens within our culture.
The body is intelligent and wise. It knows more than the mind. There is an innate wisdom to it that is far, far more intelligent than thought.
If you want to take this further, I have some recommendations.
    1) Daily mindfulness meditation + doing meditation retreats
    2) Somatic therapy
    3) Read Trauma and the Unbound Body by Judith Blackstone and No Bad Parts by Richard Schwartz
    4) Physical health (eat healthy and nutritious foods, yoga, stretching, flexibility, movement, exercise etc.)
    5) Consider applying to work 1-to-1 with me.
The body typically holds a lot of conditioning, so to truly connect to it, there must be a deconditioning process. There needs to be a reconnection. This takes time and requires long-term development and consciousness.
    That's all for this post.
If you want to work 1-to-1 with me, then apply to do so. If you're sincere about it, you'll find the link. It's not too hard to find.
    Thanks for reading,
    Lucas

I see life force flowing in me and the same intelligence flows through all living beings and I was not aware of it. it took me a lot of suffering to reach this depth.I do Vipassana meditation and I can see you are telling all TRUTH.
I see ego as just a conditioned self, a rising phenomena but we stick to it asif this real self and death of this ego is death of is but that is where freedom starts from limiting emotions.ultimately we learn to let go of all emotions.

absolutely.. my journey has also taken me to focus more on my physical body - feeling that taking good care of it is the basis of everything, both healing old traumas and for presence.. cultivating routines.. for me, FBR breathwork and EFT tapping have been the go to.. you just integrate these into your daily routine and changes do come, bulletproof transformation.. and of course eating cleand and movement of many kinds, lots of walking and stretching 💛

    Hes not lying.
I thought I was living and in the moment and realized I was a FOOL.
I got on a mild depression med and everything has been so clear.
When I was doing my usual anger and ruminating, it was PAINFUL, no longer just a tenseness in my brow. And when I thought of something stressful or related to trauma, I felt my back tighten like a fist before my damn eyes.
Then I learned what true relaxing the body was when I had to breathe through it to loosen because it was so painful.
