I actually vastly preferred the original season 1, due to the different world providing individual stories that helped pace the show... I especially miss the original birthday episode, which allows full exploration of Bee's feelings about her birthday and sort of pointing out her escapism. The way they organized the new reboot 1st season just doesn't have the same pacing, atmosphere, and in-universe time for characters to be explored/developed as well I think..
Yeah while I'm happy it released it's sad to see so much from the original completely changed I wish they could made it stay more true to it. The new story feels less like foreshadowing and more like "look at me I'm cryptic and scary and have constant dream sequences."
I'm worried this is a case of netflix seeing a nostalgic fantasy animation property and forcing it into a children ages 4 and up mold to satisfy their tv babysitter demographic. It may be a cooptation and not a good faith investment.
When you said they combined the stories from s1, I didn't realize just how many scenes would be removed and entirely reworked. I'm honestly a little disappointed, but it still doesn't override my excitement at those s2 episodes finally being released, and the show itself being on such a big streaming platform.
Yes! I used to watch bee and puppycat a couple years back and when i watched it on Netflix I vaguely remembered that there was an episode where sticky and puppycat got married. I watched the Netflix show twice but couldn't find it 😂 and then i went back to RUclips and was like : I knew it happened!!
i agree and would add that a lot of the scene that were cut also removed a lot of her character. Like in the birthday episode where she punched the electrical thing to turn on the arcade and then gave it a kiss, or in the first episode (and or pilot episode) where when she got Puppycat she dived into the dumpster to get him stuff instead of taking it from the place that she didn’t get accepted to. (S2 SPOILER & NETFLIX SPOILER) . . . . I also dont really like how they cut some scenes that showed Bee and Puppycat’s friendship and replaced it w “foreshadowing” ex. the hands’ early appearances, and the scene that I’m going to reference is the bathhouse episode. In the original one Bee wasn’t aware of Puppycat getting excluded and outcasted from the cats, but when she found out she was sorry and apologized, to which then Puppycat scared the cats off by licking himself. I liked this scene because it showed both of the character’s personalities and a view on their relationship. But then in the Netflix ver. they cut that out by adding the hands into the mix and cut the whole thing out. Back to the birthday episode, in the Netflix ver. they cut out Bee & Puppycat’s episode together and only added the scene where he loads in his buff avatar/ save and defeats it just like that in a different/ previous episode. We don’t get to see Puppycat giving Bee the time and space to do the main mission herself, to which she avoids and does side missions. I feel like this is another moment we get to know her character that just got cut out.
@@enderwalkgang Don't worry, I'm sure there'll be some LGBTQ+ moments at some point. I've been sensing some romantic tension between Toast and Cass. I noticed earlier during the scene where Cass was in an online chat, she got a reply that said "go fight that pregnant lady that you love that you pretend to hate", and Toast saw it too. That could be nothing, but I think they may have emphasized that for a reason.
@@HopAndLockDropSoppityPop I’m late to this comment and only finished ep 8 on Netflix so far, but if I remember from the YT series toast mentioned an ex wife during a fight with Cass- I wonder if she’s confirmed Bi then?
Yeah it was like.. the main part many fans related to. That she was trying to get her life sorted out but just.. isn't very good at figuring out how to adult. Ending up in job after job, unable to express her fear about Deckard leaving,,.. but only subtly hinting why all of that's the case. V1 made it sound like a coincidence that Bee and Puppycat met - and he had a very strong character. V2 made him "magically" appear, but he had full knowledge of their history and life on that island. V1 never showed PuppyCat caring for little-bee. Same as it makes no sense showing her caring for baby Deckard and them not understanding why she doesn't age. They live in a world with computers and everything. Like nobody would figure "Huh, her dad, the guy with all the inventions,.. maybe she's a robot!" - it just doesn't add up anymore.
I was sad that the reboot episodes seemed to entirely remove Deckard's talent. People still say he's a good chef, but he burns everything he bakes and no one even seems to like his cooking. When Bee can make perfect doughnuts and he can't, I missed the dynamic of Deckard wanting to choose to stay home rather than pursue his dreams whilst Bee runs around enjoying life despite not having a true aim or passion. Idk, just a thought
i'm assuming netflix only gave them three episodes to recap the og series leading to lazy in space, so im glad they chose to dedicate one of them to remaking the entire pilot, which was the one that always felt different from the rest of the series. it sucks that the entire season 1 had to be crammed into 2 episodes but i like the new stuff they added, and i still assume the original season one is still mostly "canon", as an "unabridged" version of sorts.
Um, don't let Netflix off the hook yet. They were cutting and canceling animation projects like Bone long b4 Warner Discovery and HBOMAX. This is a wait and see for me.
@@jonathanthompson4077 Lets not kid ourselves. Netflix did cancel many of those shows because of low ratings. They had their reasons.. NOW, i will explain, Netflix is terrible at marketting ALL of their shows. They seems to only market stuff inside their own platform and think that because ther subvscribers already pay they will watch content they arent paying for. Instead, Netflix shuld pump up marketting and advertisement outside their platform, so people who ARENT subcribed who like, for example, animation, can come in and watch these shows. Lets give them some credit for being one of the few platforms that has actually allowed all kinds of people, to do all kinds of shows, good or bad. Specially animation But lets criticze them for being at fault of shooting theirseves in the foot. They had reasons to cancel these many shows, but it was their own fault they didn't perform as expected. But the shows are still on Netflix, and can be still watched on Netflix NOW, HBO Max is worse than netflix, in that the mother fucker at Discovery (the new bosses), completelñy removed all kinds of shows, includng animation and HBO Max originals, all together, meaning artists will not get paid residuals from Discovery. We also gotta realize that it seem Cartoon Network and HBO Max executives were AGAINST the idea, until Disocvery heads just ordered it (higher power)
It just doesn't have the same vibe anymore.. The cut out the farmer mission, the funny crab at the beach, the cat spa... And most important Bee's personality
I missed some scenes, when Bee threatens to murder the guy from the planet of animals in a funny way, the side quests ep to face the eye, Puppycat's "wedding", the princess and octopus scene with that sad song... other than that, I didn't understand why they wanted to "de-ship" Deckard and Bee.
EXACTLY THANKS! the ep from the eye was such a good ep that I think works a lot on gender. It's a shame it was cut. The weeding was mention in the series but didn't show so if someone that didn't watch seasson 1 original would be confused. About the song I always thought it could be important eventually to the story, since the speculation was that Cardemons mom was the princess. And Deckers crush was obvious in the first ep in s1 its crushing to see that all was cut in this reboot
Personally, I like Bee and Crispin more than Bee and Deckard. In the original, deckard seemingky gave up on his dream just to be around bee, which just didn't sit right with me. Bee and Crispin feel alot more equal in their interest in one another
I didn't like how they cut out Deckard's arc. in the original the moment when he decided to go to culinary school felt so grand character-wise bcs he realized how Bee doesn't need his protection, that she will never change cuz she is a cyborg/robot. To me it felt like a metaphor for falling in love with an aromantic person. It felt so deep and meaningful that he just made peace with the fact that she doesn't really need him and decided to focus on bettering himself instead of trying to change her. And that was ok, because they are still going to be friends, but they are just going down different paths in life. But this same development felt so rushed in the Netflix series and was not thoughtfully explained there.
I love your interpretation - I feel the same! Now Deckard isn't even that good at his craft, which he has a flair for, but just suffered from a lot of self-doubt (which the wish-crystal that got stuck in his head changed) even though it was his cooking that kept the Cat Café going.
In the original cartoons there was a big difference between Bee's everyday world and the ones she escaped to - the everyday one being strange but oppressive, and the others being surreal and free but dangerous. Now it feels like there is no difference, so the whole show just feels weird for the sake of weird.
Just finished episode 1, 12 minutes longer than the pilot and they took out some of my favorite jokes 😭 IM SHOVING THE CROTCH ICE UNDER THE DOOR you took too long, now your candy’s gone, that’s what happened, BUGAOW! But at least they left in use the sword as a sword.
Yeah but its ok to me i found my new funny joke spoiler warlord G: well are you going to help ? Warlod B: there is no more hole Warlord : there is another hole- Warlord B: I WILL SUPERVISE
Totally agree. Bee quietly and surreptitiously taking candy is not my Bee who stuffs her face then yells as she awkwardly exits when caught. I hope they give her her personality back.
Watching the Netflix version now. Finished episode 1. I love that she show is back and getting the attention it deserves. But I dont like that its basically just a watered down version of the original. I hope that changes from episode 2 and onward.
season 2 was already produced before the 3 new episodes, so they had to be just extended versions of the original. there's mostly the same as season 1 to set up season 2 for viewers who never saw the netflix version.
It changes around episode 4, I agree season 1 in this is worse, episode 4 is pretty good and episode 5 onward is absolutely incredible I mean it’s almost like Netflix forced them to remake season 1 when it was already perfect or they wouldn’t release season 2 (so it’s almost like exactly what happened) Edit: so I watched with a friend last night who never saw season 1 and he actually mostly enjoyed the first three episodes (he insisted on watching on Netflix) the main gripe he had was he thought it sounded like each line was only given 1 take, ESPECIALLY with deckard, who throughout most of the first three episodes sounds like they actively chose the worst take he gave, though he gets much better in the final of the three))
@@zemox2534 I have to disagree in this case, bee and puppycat had no future for season 2 being released, Im very thankful that a team like netflix picked it up
Worth mentioning how Sticky is reframed to be Cardemon's friend versus his child. In the original series, he was shown taking care of her like an adult would their child, but that was changed for this version
I hope they continue the story in the style of Season 1 / 2 because Netflix’s recap style in EP’s 1-3 was pretty heavy on Chibi style, which made it lose a lot of detail and made it feel empty. I’m also sad about Cardamon’s voice change due to aging. Glad they kept the same VA though! I guess it would mess with the story if they aged him to match his current voice. Happy to finally be able to celebrate and support the release of Lazy in Space! ♡ P.S. Netflix Executives PLEASE let Natasha have full creative control over future seasons because she knows what she’s doing and will make the best decisions for her story! ☆
I don't know if it was just me (it has been a while since I watched the series) but the story never really made any sense to me, stuff just happened and I was just like "ok this is a thing I guess". It never really felt like anything was explained, so I'm glad they're doing it justice and giving the writers a chance to clear stuff up better
I agree that some parts didn’t make sense even on the whatever number rewatch, but i feel like the show & not tell was one of the best element that the original show had. And personally I don’t know if it’s just me with this but I feel like Netflix changing out other specific elements in the show is bogus and a loss.
Really? Idk for me the first time going through it i kinda ignored all the ribbon coming out of her hands during her dreams and all that then when the finale hit it all came in a rush that all these subtle things were something bigger than we imagined. When rewatching it it wasnt too hard to understand afterwards.
@@pastrycookie8080 this is how i feel. And in the reboot, hints of bee’s origin are a bit too obvious so i found that a bit annoying because i really liked having to put the pieces together.
One thing that really confused me is how they almost completely got rid of Bee and Deckard’s feelings for each other just to replace them with a weird pat relationship(?) between Bee and Crispin. I can’t think of any reason why they’d do that and I’m honestly kind of sad they did… Deckard really disappeared in season 2
idk but it felt like they are pushing bee and deckard into a bff narrative so they can push a bl storyline between him and the guy from culinary school
I mean personally I'm happy they removed the romance implications because in context of Bee knowing Deckard since he was a baby and him being the youngest sibling around 18 years old whole thing just got... very creepy especially when they mention Bee being "old" and being there sincd Cas and Deckard were very small. Crispin is at least older and we don't know if he knew Bee as a baby, I'm not fan of this ship but it way less uncomfortable and even modernized (like i think we kinda got over making everything about teenagers and uni students).
@@papkinn (I haven’t watched the entire og season 1 in a while, correct me if i’m wrong) but i’m pretty sure the age gap wasn’t a thing until season 2? I feel like it was an unnecessary and kinda odd addition
I feel like it has to do something with the age gap because she technically raised him please while Christine is in his 30s so he probably technically grew up with her
I love the remake of the pilot, hate the remake of season 1, but I looove the season 2 and I'm glad to have a place were I can watch it legally and getting the creators some money. I don't like the impression that they also made cardamon a robot, I don't like that half ot the audios of puppycat are the same and have been taken from the original season 1. For those who don't know what I'm talking about, most of puppycat's audios are from this one line "is this how I die..? What a meaningless life I lived, whatever, who cares." When Cardamon pushes him off in the YT season 1. The fact that most of his lines are the same takes away from what the show had before, where the sounds puppycat made were different depending on what he said and can give a dramatic, passive or aggressive feel. I also don't like that so much of the story was cut out that it took away from the chill vibes the original season 1 have. It's like someone thought the real important part of the story was the temp jobs and the hands things and put the chill and awkward and character building moments and dialogue to the side. The original season one had Bee struggling with money and with celebrating her birthday and hating water and being "lazy" and now all of these are gone/almost gone. I do really like the season 2 tho! I would really recommend skipping the episodes 2-3 and waching the youtube season 1 and then watching season 2 on netflix, it's really good!
Agreed, though I think skipping 2-3 instead makes more sense, since lazy in space starts in episode 4 and it explains a lot of stuff regarding the cafe!
Completely agree, especially with the bit about Puppycat's voice lines. I liked the immersion of the original season 1 where you could believe that puppycat spoke his own language and occassionally used english words when there wasn't a translation (ex. Pretty Patrick). By reusing the same two or three voice lines, it totally removed that immersion for me. But in the end, I do love the show lol, and I'm glad it has a legal place I can watch it
I'm honestly kinda peeved that the RUclips series got condensed into to first three episodes of Lazy in Space, causing the pacing to feel rushed and key story beats not holding the same emotional weight (like Bee being a robot and how Bee feels about her birthday) They did some good things, like the remake of the pilot episode and establishing certain characters to fill in some plot holes like with Sticky and Toast, but the first few episodes were still a serious letdown I understand if Netflix didn't want to air episodes 4-16 of Lazy in Space on it's own due to a lack of context or not wanting to air the original RUclips series on there due to legal reasons or wanting a consistent art style, but it lead to a really messy start for the show I still loved LIS, but it certainly has its issues. ESPECIALLY when it comes to the stiff dialogue, both in writing and the voice acting, and some of the sound editing feels really off. Aesthetics on the other hand: absolutely gorgeous
I really like the new version of season 1 and the pilot. It feels more cohesive and thought out. Though... They did cut out a lot of the chill moments and some comedy bits. But I still think it's pretty nice.
OMG. I just realized something. I got a little sad when they pretty much removed all of Bee's deep internal thoughts and it actually makes sense why they did that. Bee in the pilot was pretty much a human. She was sassy, would get embarrassed and such. Deckard and Bee clearly had a crush on each other in the pilot. Final Bee is a ageless robot with shallow thoughts and feelings. She's odd and socially awkward. It doesn't seem like she has a crush on Deckard at all. (I'm also pretty sure they're going for that bee was a child that died and her dad made a robot of her.) It totally makes sense for them to remove all that deeper thoughts she had because she's literally a robot. She's not capable of having deeper connections. Maybe Deckard would realize that she's an ageless robot that can only process simple emotions and stuff. That's why she did feel sad or anything really when she was breaking up with Crispin. And not picking up on obvious social cues. She's pretty much like an ageless child.
@@awkwardorangedrawz5914 huh. I honestly hadn't considered this! That Bee being a robot would change her whole reactions and way of processing the world. In the Netflix series that didn't hit home for me until *SPOILERS!* She met back up with Mouie who is also immortal. At least from his conversation with her it sounded like he was immortal since he didn't need money and just did whatever helped others. Anyways after meeting him a second time it felt like she finally was kicked into gear and stopped putting things off just because it could be done later. I miss things from the original, but I definitely feel like the Netflix series has direction. Parts of the original series dragged and felt so random (cleavage Crab for instance) and we got lore as well as back stories for Bee and PuppyCat. I really hope this continues because I want to know more!
I loved watching the show evolve and grow from its start on Cartoon Hangover. The final episode from the original run has my favorite (spoiler-free) quote from the sweet donut-baker where he says: "I spend all day making them. I put all my hopes and dreams into them, and I wait until someone on the other side of the black wish-hole wants one. And sometimes they give me a thank-you gift, and sometimes they don’t." When I began to make videos, that quote resonated with me more and more. ☺
I really liked the new animation but I found they cut a lot of my favourite jokes, like puppy cat being so ugly he saves bee from the bath cats or just in general how she interact w water in that part (I don’t like water dance, screaming at the cats calling them jerks). I also found the eyeball quest one funny but I’m guessing they couldn’t just copy and paste the whole first season
the only complaint i have with the rebooted series is puppycat's captions, they're really ugly compared to the original show and take up a lot of the screen, but apart from that I think the show is really nice, although i dont think it quite beats the original yet
I wonder if sticky could be related to the space princess that puppycat fell in love with in his space outlaw form? cardamon mentions that he thinks she is a princess and wants puppy cat to marry her, it could be a reference how he originally wanted to marry the space princess before she betrayed him. just wondering if that could be connected somehow
So I wasn't a fan of the art style they used to create the new episodes or elements because it looked kind of cheap and flimsy and a very comical it didn't really flow appropriately with the season 2 episodes. Going forward I hope they utilize the art style from the 2nd half and not the 3 episodes. It may have been very slight to some people but I could definitely tell where it started to look Very off when it came to Decker's hair and the color to palettes for the first few episodes. Also them pretty much rushing through season one starter episodes or even Mini Episodes was very lazy In my opinion. Plus you can hear the voice difference when it comes to Cardamon. They literally use the new voice actor for the 1st 3 episodes and then used the remaining lazy in space original season 2 as is
@@notyourtype2445 every thing after ep 3 was already established. Every thing before was kinda rushed and a lil phoned in. I enjoyed season 1 build. Also if ur gonna change a voice, u do it in a new season, not the same one . It's jarring. These were made some time apart so I understand some one aging but going from older voice, to young voice then back to older in new upcoming possible seasons is a mess.
I noticed the horrible style they chose for the first few eps too and hope they change it. The change in cardamon’s voice did bother me but I can also appreciate them using the same voice actor.
I have so many mixed feelings about it. I do like how they tried to give more background into the characters however, it felt very rushed. Also can we talk about how cardamon sounds like a senior in high school and not a kindergartener?
I get they wanted to keep the entire original cast however, for Cardamon specifically I don’t think that was a wise choice. I feel like they could have added a character specifically for the original voice actor if they wanted to keep him and still maintain that child lovable side for the character
I feel like they could have just established that Wallace was a disguise. They could flesh out the transformation scene, use it as an opportunity to do something cool instead of hacking and slashing at the original.
Season 1 on Netflix, while is interesting and patches big questions from the original, its a very bittersweet pickup as it feels it's lost its charachter, the questions are what made it bee and puppy cat, they escapism, the mystery of the father, And most importantly the story about jellyfish. That being said, they are two different works of art, and hopefully they will be able to put both the new and original up on Netflix for new viewers to see
I find they explain way to much in the Netflix series, the RUclips series has like this complex feel & it makes you want to learn about the characters. But it feels kinda dead on Netflix:/ it oddly feels off.
All in all, I'm just super happy to see the new season at all. Being picky, I do miss the nostalgia of the old animation. The Netflix one definitely has some upgrades, but I miss the defined outlines of the characters and the relative simplicity of the animation from the original episodes :')
I think the best way is to watch both the RUclips version (first) and the Netflix after. The RUclips version has better pacing and humor than the first 3 ep's reboot and also goes more into Bee and Deckard as characters as well as their relationship which I missed in the reboot. However, the lore is great and sets up the rest of the Netflix version well. The pacing and humor improves to be more similar to the original RUclips one's feeling after the recap episodes! And I loved the Netflix one's finale episode - it was stellar! :)
Yes, because the recap-episodes 1-3 are the latest ones, while the rest of the season was the old "Season 2" and was made a long time ago. That's why it feels more similar to the original season 1 on RUclips. The last episode is one of my favorites, adding all the pieces together - with more to come.
I prefer to watch the original season 1 and then Lazy In Space for the simple fact that the original season 1 had much better character development and story telling along with just writing and themes in general, tho I do still think it’s good for people to watch the reboot due to the fact that it does give some additional info and development in some ways If only there was a way to take some stuff from this reboot and add it to the original lol
I feel like some things are better and some things are worse. I like that the Netflix show is actually explaining events and offering some background. Artistically overall I find the style to look much worse in the Netflix version, like cutesy dolls meets Steven universe instead of the more illustrative style from the original show. The show also feels like it’s rushing, pacing is too fast and the characters chemistry feels off. Hopefully it picks up in later seasons. Gonna miss the original style a lot though…
Oh no!! I really hope that they are animating season 2 (3) as we speak. Maybe they could do a Special - like a short film with the characters/ universe - as a Christmas surprise?
I feel the original is so much better. The original feels like a nice relaxing, sometimes intense, stardew valley adventure. Ends on a very nice and realistic note that leaves a good open ended situation. The reboot feels like it wants to be Steven Universe. And if it tries it’s gonna end up like anything post season 3. Just bad.
Thanks for the summary at the beginning. I started watching it on Netflix but stopped when I thought it was either a reboot or there was a season I had missed.
I am so happy Netflix picked this up, it really deserves praise. The reboot is beautiful but I feel that the origional season 1 had more weigh to all the characters especially Bees reveal. But overall I'm so happy it got picked up by Netflix and hopefully it gets another season.
In the original bee and deckard seemed to like each other romantically and deckard was looking after bee. In the netflix version bee seems like a big sister to him and is looking after him instead. It seemed like they didn't have a big age difference and bee just didn't like to grow up.
The reboot feels dry, and rather than telling the story with what happens in the scenes, there's a lot of unnecessary dialogue... it ends up feeling forced, I liked the intrigue of her father, is he alive how did he go missing, the fact that she's a cyborg was just slapped in our face like it's no biggy...we knew but it was interesting , she now just doesn't like water and says she's water proof so there is no reason for her to not like it , maybe they will focus more on puppycats backstory now instead of bees because it looks like we know it all already, additionally I was sad that all my fav episodes were condensed in to one episode ( in order to catch up I realize...) but they took away all darkness from them. The cherry is a cute friendly thing now, the farmer didn't get eaten by his animals and I assume she did in fact get paid and the sweet release of death was not payment lol , the recipe she was working on with Decard is just gone now, the cats that let her watch Pretty Patrick, and them being grossed out by Puppycat? all gone if you didn't know better you'd wonder why they randomly kick him aside in short I wish they would have started where they left off, everyone can watch the originals to get the story. P.s How boring was it that instead of saying " I don't know why you'd want to watch a show where a guy just eats mashed potatoes" he just says it, "his favorite foods mashed potatoes" like um ok yeah that spoiled it but that was flat? the joke was better delivered before that's a perfect example of how they made it dry, it's missing the silliness and the dark humor, Every time I saw the crow I expected the horrible CAW but no just once for old times I guess, just a nod.
I prefer the original way more, they completely change the dynamic of some characters in the opener, eg cas acting like she doesn't care about Bee in the Netflix version to her being concerned about her and Deckard in the original. The complete change of direction and the direction for voicing when compared feels like it lost its improvisational tone, the fact it used to sound like these conversations flowed naturally compared to sounding rehearsed. If you play episode one side by side it may change your perspective as that is what I did. I love Bee and Puppycat but I don't think going to Netflix was a good move in this case. I can say I like the fact they kept the artstyle and the music feels quite similar at least in the first episode but honestly I wished they had just moved the episodes already made onto Netflix just to reach a wider audience. It felt like they tore out the heart of the show, they dumbed it down and tore out parts to make it more straightforward and easy to follow and it hurts to see as this show is so different and unique, it's like a beautiful canvas and now Netflix have come along and simplified things using common writing tropes. This show got me hooked because I had absolutely no fucking idea what was going to happen in the next five seconds. I hope this reaches its creators because I am worried about this show. Please get your heart back. I cried watching the comparison. From a worried fan.
The OG looks like from Cartoon Network and the redesign looks like it’s from Netflix and I am so confused right now and I recently watched the redesign of Bee and Puppycat
If I pretend I’ve never watched Bee and Puppycat before, I think I’d prefer watching the webisodes as an introduction than episodes 2 and 3 on Netflix. The pacing is better and each crumb dropped about Bee feels subtle and makes the reveal more grand. The Netflix version felt too in-your-face about the lore and the episodes felt cramped, especially episode 2. I think it’s from trying condense all these character introduction and plot points into just one episode that it was overwhelming.
Honestly, I prefer the writing of the youtube-version. The netflix-version spoon-feeds us people's emotions through dialogue and exposition, breaking the golden rule of "show, don't tell." The youtube version leaves so much more up for interpretation, leaves the audience in suspense and sustains the mystery. Some people might not like that, but without it, some of the inherent charm from the writing of the original is just plain lost.
I think the series is best enjoyed watching the original season 1, it holds up more mystery and really punches you with emotions in a way the reboot lacks
I’m honestly 50/50 on this love hate with the decision Natasha made. I love the OG episodes that were released 9 years ago because I grew up watching this from day 1 however I’m very happy she finally made her work known for a chance to show it on Netflix. So, I’m glad she made money and she’s well… but I really hope that Netflix doesn’t OWN the rights to her work, meaning I hope I can still watch her original episodes on cartoon hangover as I don’t like the new episodes from Netflix.. Regardless I just love the style Natasha put into this work. 🙂
who did the rewrites, they just say whatever they want and narrate things that are happening, while also cutting the set ups for jokes and actions. Everything that happens in the first episode has an AB setup/payoff, no other factors play in, overall they seem to have decided to really lean into the little kid market.
I have to say I rly disagree with the comments, it has been a rly rly long time since I watched the og bee and puppy cat. So I was practically going in blind with 2 faces in mind. But I immediately noticed how much more the world was fleshed out, and how the dialogue was more relaxed and paced rather then the sometimes confusing transitions in the og. not to mention how more easily I understand the temp space work. In the og series I was so confused as to why or how that worked but from the new series it explained it in a way I could easily understand.
I love that Toast and her bf started a family and I believe she does love him and doesn't use him to move in. I believe Toast wants to be friends with Cas but she wants to be Friendly Rivals as her actions show and it's kinda funny that now Toast will be her sister in law when toast gets married. Toast is a good character but not great cuz all we know is that she loves fighting and one of cas's brothers not gonna spoil who though for anyone new.
As much as I love BaPC, im not rlly a fan of the fact that theyre rlly pushing the chibi expressions in hope of “being even cuter” (like how We Bare Bears got a spin-off just to capitalize on their time as cubs). Its also a bit disappointing how they removed some of the best jokes in the original. As for the Beekard ship, even before the reboot was a thing, Ive always thought that the series would eventually end with either Puppycat turning back into his humanoid form and ending up with Bee, or Bee turning into a full human and takes care of PuppyCat as she naturally grows up and dies of old age. But, the way they did it seemed very unnatural, imo. Another thing i find funny is, regardless which of the Wizard siblings you ship Bee with, she technically saw them all grow up before her eyes so its still “wrong” in a sense lol
Even though the new recap episodes are less vague, which I preferred since the reveal of Bee's identity was much later and more satisfying (we thought she was an awkward girl, ah she's a robot), there is as you mentioned still a lot of mystery to the show - luckily! For instance before many of us where shipping Bee and Deckard, but if she was his babysitter as revealed on Netflix, maybe this ship doesn't work. Also if Deckard's frenemy from culinary school really is going to be his new love interest. I'm also guessing the wishing crystal that is stuck in the back of his head, that made him take the leap to go to pursue his passion, is still messing with him. We know that Bee used to live with Crispin, but is there a romantic connection, or is it only from Crispin's view since Bee is a robot? Interesting thought you have that Bee could turn into a human - like Pinocchio. With the whole 'dadbox' that could explode if not attended, it gives me the impression that Bee is there to protect the space ship / island, meaning Puppycat, Violet and Cardamon, even though it seems like Puppycat came to protect her while he was also in hiding. Maybe it functions an equal win-win-agreement - or is it coincidence? Bee has always giving me vibes of AstroBoy and Metropolis since she did proposedly use to be a real girl turned cyborg, but also seems to be there to protect since she is so strong. Her strength definitely gives me Project Ako-Vibes. Like you wrote there could definitely be a romantic connection between Bee and PuppyCat in the end, since he doesn't seem to be Cardamoms' dad after Violet wakes up saying: "Let's find your stupid dad". Who could be Bee's dad? As in Violet and Bee's dad had a thing. If he's the little smart boy in the flashback with PuppyCat and Violet as children. Which could mean that Violet is Bee's mother? And would make sense that Bee treats Cardamom as a brother, and Cardamom is smart like his dad. At one point I thought the Space Princess was PuppyCat's mom since he says "I'll miss my mom" in the flashback when he's a boy before becoming a Candy Hunter. So maybe he had a longing for his mother the whole time, and also acts so childish, since running away from home. The Bee and PuppyCat series is giving us crazy Sailor Moon vibes, also sometimes giving references to Rainbow Brite and the Clown-Around books. It is probably no secret that Allegri is already a fan. I love her homage to these other stories as it must have had a lot to do with why she is an artist and started doing animation in the first place.
I love the new netflix version but my one problem is the got rid of my favorite line........... "You took too long, now yo candys gone, thas what happens.....BUGAW!"
...huh. I recently saw the preview episode on RUclips, and it made me question if the long format was appropriate for this series. However, since you told me that there were changes from the previous episodes, and they brought back that one story from the comics that used the QR codes, I may need to look up the earlier episodes on Netflix.
Since the original first season of Bee and Puppycat isn't on Netflix, I assumed that the creators made an abridged version of it so that the new show could _technically_ stand on its own. With that said, for the best viewing experience I think that it's still best to watch the original series to enjoy the full story, and to view the first three episodes of the Netlfix show as filler/additional lore tid-bits rather than a genuine replacement for the first season.
Agreed. I like the expansion on the lore. But not the entire rewrites and straightup omissions from the first season. So much character development, depth, great foreshadowing and build up was lost.
I honestly wish they just focused on season 2 instead of remixing and reworking season 1. Or maybe adding stuff to fill out the orginal episodes to make them longer without changing the entire episode. Once it got to season 2 it was great don'tget me wrong. I'm ready for season 3. But anyone who hasn't seen the original season 1 is missing out on so many important characters moments and development. And all that fantastic foreshadowing. All that buildup was seriously lost in the remix.
In the bee and puppycat comic theres actually a scene in there where you get to see Wallace's mom sitting on the fish bowl crying wondering where Wallace is
I didn’t dislike the new season, however they just changed so many things in the reboot episodes that I loved about the old one that it’s just kind of felt empty in comparison. Again I didn’t hate the new season. I still it’s very fun and cute and I would’ve probably liked it a lot more if I hadn’t seen the old one first but overall im just glad they are continuing the story:)
I definitely preferred season 1. Went to watch the Netflix series, hyped up the cleavage crab only for it to appear in the title card and never in the show. Will continue to watch the Netflix version, though. It's scratching the ADHD brain in all the right places.
Story wise I enjoy what they changed to fit better with Lazy in Space, but in terms of comedy and chill vibes they took out a lot of parts that I really enjoyed in the original. - the policeman in the pilot - Wallace (the scene just isn't as funny with the baby) - the scene where bee gives deckard his application after grabbing it out of the trash. The vibes in the original were just a lot nicer and to me made me really sympathize with the characters. I didn't feel this in the remake. There are other parts too that I csny think of right now. But I do wish they had included a bit more of the original series.
Thanks for the video! It seems I have mistakenly watched the netflix series spread out over a few months as a cosy and comfy way to fill lunch breaks or wind down for sleep. This made it rather confusing to follow and recall the plot littered throughout the various episodes. The ending was consequently very confusing and felt disappointing as I didn't expect a cliffhanger. I really loved the show for what I experienced it as. I think I'll definitely watch the original pilot and webseries then rewatch the netflix show sometime thereafter.
I was hoping for the original jelly cube planet with the creepy farmer! It just really set the tone for me and kept me on my toes, being in this adorable world but such dark entities still exist in it! 😅
Honestly I think he new one is great and I'm on episode one rn and I haven't seen it get much wrong except one thing I noticed since I watch with subtitles, there’s a part where she’s hungry and her stomach rumbles and the subtitles say so, but the 2nd time I know my sound effects and she definitely farted
Something different from what others have been pointing out that I’ve noticed is lower quality sound effects. Honestly I prefer the originals style which is more in your face. Like the Netflix version can fly over your head and really makes things have less impact. Also the voice acting. It’s definitely not the Voice actors faults. It’s the person in charge of it. They don’t really have as much life as the og season 1
I just ignored the first 3 episodes and rewatched the first season on youtube then went back to netflix and watched lazy in space, just so happy we finally got it
I do prefer the original season 1, but I do think the reboot episodes (plus the remainder of season 2) is extremely charming and is something I would love to see more of
How many Theory and analysis videos would be too many? I have like 8 planned.
Also special thanks to our new Editor Haro!

Some think Hulu if you ask me.
FACTS
I feel the same way. I feel the dialogue, pacing, and over style is off from the original show. It made me kind of sad that things felt so off.
THANK YOUUUUUUU my gosh like this is EXACTLY what I was thinking like wow
When you said they combined the stories from s1, I didn't realize just how many scenes would be removed and entirely reworked. I'm honestly a little disappointed, but it still doesn't override my excitement at those s2 episodes finally being released, and the show itself being on such a big streaming platform.
yeah, I was disappointed when they got rid of the cherry task- LIKE THAT EPISODE WAS SOO COOL 🥲🥲
Yeah little confused as to when season 2 ep come out sep 16?
Yes! I used to watch bee and puppycat a couple years back and when i watched it on Netflix I vaguely remembered that there was an episode where sticky and puppycat got married. I watched the Netflix show twice but couldn't find it 😂 and then i went back to RUclips and was like : I knew it happened!!
Im glad you can still watch the pilot episode and the S1.
I found it really sad to see the job where they have to fight the floating eye cut short because for me it really showed a lot of her character
Same! And her talking about the way she felt about her birthday
i agree and would add that a lot of the scene that were cut also removed a lot of her character. Like in the birthday episode where she punched the electrical thing to turn on the arcade and then gave it a kiss, or in the first episode (and or pilot episode) where when she got Puppycat she dived into the dumpster to get him stuff instead of taking it from the place that she didn’t get accepted to.
(S2 SPOILER & NETFLIX SPOILER)

Yeah, like for example it had a LGBTQA+ momment sorta, Bee gets gendebent and doesn't seem like even bothered by it. Barely even commenting on it
@@enderwalkgang Don't worry, I'm sure there'll be some LGBTQ+ moments at some point.
@@HopAndLockDropSoppityPop I’m late to this comment and only finished ep 8 on Netflix so far, but if I remember from the YT series toast mentioned an ex wife during a fight with Cass- I wonder if she’s confirmed Bi then?
i felt disappointed they cut out like the main underlying plot of bee not wanting to grow up
Me too... bee’s lil’ journey made the story so special :-(
Yeah it was like.. the main part many fans related to.
@@BassKittehz yeah I think she was human then became robot/cyborg later on.
Feminism
Deckard is a chef not a baker which is why everything he tries to bake burns
i'm assuming netflix only gave them three episodes to recap the og series leading to lazy in space, so im glad they chose to dedicate one of them to remaking the entire pilot, which was the one that always felt different from the rest of the series.
it sucks that the entire season 1 had to be crammed into 2 episodes but i like the new stuff they added, and i still assume the original season one is still mostly "canon", as an "unabridged" version of sorts.
It’s really cool to see what Netflix is doing with animation. It is especially reassuring for the medium after the HBOmax animation purge.
Don’t you remember when Netflix also purged animation?
Specially animation
But lets criticze them for being at fault of shooting theirseves in the foot.
They had reasons to cancel these many shows, but it was their own fault they didn't perform as expected. But the shows are still on Netflix, and can be still watched on Netflix
NOW, HBO Max is worse than netflix, in that the mother fucker at Discovery (the new bosses), completelñy removed all kinds of shows, includng animation and HBO Max originals, all together, meaning artists will not get paid residuals from Discovery. We also gotta realize that it seem Cartoon Network and HBO Max executives were AGAINST the idea, until Disocvery heads just ordered it (higher power)
watching on repeat as much as possible I neeeeed volume 2
You copied this comment legit word for word from another video called "what makes bee and puppycat so great"
It just doesn't have the same vibe anymore..
The cut out the farmer mission, the funny crab at the beach, the cat spa... And most important Bee's personality
I missed some scenes, when Bee threatens to murder the guy from the planet of animals in a funny way, the side quests ep to face the eye, Puppycat's "wedding", the princess and octopus scene with that sad song... other than that, I didn't understand why they wanted to "de-ship" Deckard and Bee.
i dont know why but i feel like that was the last straw for me 🤮is that bad???
Bee & Deckard are so cute!!! disappointed their relationship wasn’t explored more in the reboot and changed completely :(
deckard’s character arc esp was RUSHED!!!
Agreed, even though I like weird, they were more separate.
Just watched ep 1 and Bee has had a total charisma-ectomy. The show's charm was her being a big messy presence, and that is entirely absent.
Just finished episode 1, 12 minutes longer than the pilot and they took out some of my favorite jokes 😭
IM SHOVING THE CROTCH ICE UNDER THE DOOR
you took too long, now your candy’s gone, that’s what happened, BUGAOW!
But at least they left in use the sword as a sword.
Yeah but its ok to me i found my new funny joke spoiler
warlord G: well are you going to help ?
Warlod B: there is no more hole
Warlord : there is another hole-
Warlord B: I WILL SUPERVISE
Totally agree. Bee quietly and surreptitiously taking candy is not my Bee who stuffs her face then yells as she awkwardly exits when caught. I hope they give her her personality back.
and they got rid of CLEAVAGE CRAB.. FRIGGIN CLEAVAGE CRAB!!!
And Mouly was basically ruined. Poor good guy Mouly :(
Watching the Netflix version now.
It changes around episode 4, I agree season 1 in this is worse, episode 4 is pretty good and episode 5 onward is absolutely incredible
I mean it’s almost like Netflix forced them to remake season 1 when it was already perfect or they wouldn’t release season 2 (so it’s almost like exactly what happened)
Edit: so I watched with a friend last night who never saw season 1 and he actually mostly enjoyed the first three episodes (he insisted on watching on Netflix) the main gripe he had was he thought it sounded like each line was only given 1 take, ESPECIALLY with deckard, who throughout most of the first three episodes sounds like they actively chose the worst take he gave, though he gets much better in the final of the three))
@@Jenny_Metzelar Netflix is like Disney. Take something good and ruin it just for profit.
@@zemox2534 I have to disagree in this case, bee and puppycat had no future for season 2 being released, Im very thankful that a team like netflix picked it up
@@namkoofiles5267 Ya I'm really hoping to know what finally happened after that cliffhanger xDD
I guess it would mess with the story if they aged him
to match his current voice.
Happy to finally be able to celebrate and support the release of Lazy in Space! ♡
P.S.
Netflix Executives PLEASE let Natasha have full creative control over future seasons because she knows what she’s doing and will make the best decisions for her story! ☆
Deckard’s head was so huge lmao
It's not just you. Nothing made sense to me and around the end, I still couldn't get into it.
@@pastrycookie8080 this is how i feel. And in the reboot, hints of bee’s origin are a bit too obvious so i found that a bit annoying because i really liked having to put the pieces together.
I am so happy Bee and Puppycat is getting more time to shine. Its such a fun show. I look forward to watching it.
@@papkinn completely agree, was thinking the same thing while watching
@@yingsonic you're right I messed up my numbers
Completely agree, especially with the bit about Puppycat's voice lines. I liked the immersion of the original season 1 where you could believe that puppycat spoke his own language and occassionally used english words when there wasn't a translation (ex. Pretty Patrick). By reusing the same two or three voice lines, it totally removed that immersion for me. But in the end, I do love the show lol, and I'm glad it has a legal place I can watch it
@@BrooklynBeck that's exactly what thought!
I'm honestly kinda peeved that the RUclips series got condensed into to first three episodes of Lazy in Space, causing the pacing to feel rushed and key story beats not holding the same emotional weight (like Bee being a robot and how Bee feels about her birthday)
They did some good things, like the remake of the pilot episode and establishing certain characters to fill in some plot holes like with Sticky and Toast, but the first few episodes were still a serious letdown
I understand if Netflix didn't want to air episodes 4-16 of Lazy in Space on it's own due to a lack of context or not wanting to air the original RUclips series on there due to legal reasons or wanting a consistent art style, but it lead to a really messy start for the show
I still loved LIS, but it certainly has its issues.
It was weird that Cardamon's voice in the reboot episodes sounds older than the original.
His voice actor is the same but he grew up so yeh
I’m so upset :(
he sounds older in the first episode than in all the others. it's weird
I loved watching the show evolve and grow from its start on Cartoon Hangover.
The final episode from the original run has my favorite (spoiler-free) quote from the sweet donut-baker where he says:
"I spend all day making them. I put all my hopes and dreams into them, and I wait until someone on the other side of the black wish-hole wants one. And sometimes they give me a thank-you gift, and sometimes they don’t."
When I began to make videos, that quote resonated with me more and more.
I'm so sad they took out the jellyfish song out of the reboot, I really loved that song and it fit so well with the show
the only complaint i have with the rebooted series is puppycat's captions, they're really ugly compared to the original show and take up a lot of the screen, but apart from that I think the show is really nice, although i dont think it quite beats the original yet
I thought I was about to start a whole Mandela effect because it looked and sounded so differently, now I know why
They literally use the new voice actor for the 1st 3 episodes and then used the remaining lazy in space original season 2 as is
i completely agree
I don’t think it’s up to the creators rather Netflix decides what goes also isn’t it still the og voice actor just older?
@@notyourtype2445 every thing after ep 3 was already established. Every thing before was kinda rushed and a lil phoned in. I enjoyed season 1 build. Also if ur gonna change a voice, u do it in a new season, not the same one . It's jarring. These were made some time apart so I understand some one aging but going from older voice, to young voice then back to older in new upcoming possible seasons is a mess.
Cardamon has the same voice actor. It's just that he is older now. but they did keep up the original VA.
I noticed the horrible style they chose for the first few eps too and hope they change it. The change in cardamon’s voice did bother me but I can also appreciate them using the same voice actor.
i like the new show but the loss of the classic line “you took took long, now you’re candies gone” is tragic.
I have so many mixed feelings about it. I do like how they tried to give more background into the characters however, it felt very rushed. Also can we talk about how cardamon sounds like a senior in high school and not a kindergartener?
Cardamon voice actor is the same but they aged sk their voice is different overbthe year
I get they wanted to keep the entire original cast however, for Cardamon specifically I don’t think that was a wise choice.
I have watched both the RUclips and part of the Netflix series and honestly I liked both of them. They are very comfy.
Who else get nostalgic seeing this series after these years?
I prefer to watch the original season 1 and then Lazy In Space for the simple fact that the original season 1 had much better character development and story telling along with just writing and themes in general, tho I do still think it’s good for people to watch the reboot due to the fact that it does give some additional info and development in some ways
If only there was a way to take some stuff from this reboot and add it to the original lol
It was weird that they got the original cardimon voice actor back Even though he sounds way older than he's supposed to be
I feel like some things are better and some things are worse.
I just finished watching it and I must admit I enjoyed it more than the og one,.. Because there was more LOREEEEEEE (honestly it was amazing)
the shining in the hair was the most atracting thing to me
Alright, that was fun, time to wait 5 years for season 2
Say what now
I'm a loser who is still mourning the artstyle from the pilot but overall I'm keeping a bit of faith on the series going forward.
I am so happy Netflix picked this up, it really deserves praise. The reboot is beautiful but I feel that the origional season 1 had more weigh to all the characters especially Bees reveal. But overall I'm so happy it got picked up by Netflix and hopefully it gets another season.
As someone who watched Netflix first but yesterday binged all bee and puppycat media I could find, I ADORE BOTH!
In the original bee and deckard seemed to like each other romantically and deckard was looking after bee. In the netflix version bee seems like a big sister to him and is looking after him instead. It seemed like they didn't have a big age difference and bee just didn't like to grow up.
The reboot feels dry, and rather than telling the story with what happens in the scenes, there's a lot of unnecessary dialogue... it ends up feeling forced, I liked the intrigue of her father, is he alive how did he go missing, the fact that she's a cyborg was just slapped in our face like it's no biggy...we knew but it was interesting , she now just doesn't like water and says she's water proof so there is no reason for her to not like it , maybe they will focus more on puppycats backstory now instead of bees because it looks like we know it all already, additionally I was sad that all my fav episodes were condensed in to one episode
( in order to catch up I realize...) but they took away all darkness from them.
I honestly feel as if they were trying to make the reboot kid friendly kind of? They removed most of the more "mature" things
I thought it was interesting on how they changed bee's relationship with water
I wish the story of how jellyfish were created wasn't removed from The Netflix version.
👍🏻😁👍🏻Bee and Puppycat as a beautiful art style that love so much and the characters look wonderful!
Thank you Deepcut!
This was explained so well. Phew
The OG looks like from Cartoon Network and the redesign looks like it’s from Netflix and I am so confused right now and
I recently watched the redesign of Bee and Puppycat
Calling it now sticky is the princess puppycat loves
Awwww they got rid of her cute cat suit for the Wallace job D:
The cute spooky feeling is gone.
I think the series is best enjoyed watching the original season 1, it holds up more mystery and really punches you with emotions in a way the reboot lacks
I am so happy that Bee and puppycat are back
I’m honestly 50/50 on this love hate with the decision Natasha made.
Everything that happens in the first episode has an AB setup/payoff, no other factors play in, overall they seem to have decided to really lean into the little kid market.
imma tell my future kids that this is ousama ranking
I was sad to see the jellyfish song left out, but very glad to have skipped over cleavage crab lol
c-cleavage, dude...
It's different but I'm really loving the Netflix season, I think it's better and more organized.
7:46 what if she's the princess, and the tentacles we see are the strange hands trying to get at her true love which was the Prince
So...what if bee not sharing with cardamon is why he started seeming sick throughout the series ?
I always liked the puppy cat food at the beginning and end 😊
Story wise I enjoy what they changed to fit better with Lazy in Space, but in terms of comedy and chill vibes they took out a lot of parts that I really enjoyed in the original.
- the policeman in the pilot
- Wallace (the scene just isn't as funny with the baby)
- the scene where bee gives deckard his application after grabbing it out of the trash. The vibes in the original were just a lot nicer and to me made me really sympathize with the characters. I didn't feel this in the remake.
There are other parts too that I csny think of right now. But I do wish they had included a bit more of the original series.
I was so incredibly saddened when I saw they cut the jellyfish scene….
I remember season 2 was leaked so I am happy that puppycat is getting so much love now. I wonder if the next volume or season is already green lit.
Well you may find this silly but for the next volume I like to see a toast and Merlin focused episode but that just only me.
So,,, what everyone in the comments section is saying, is that I should watch the RUclips version instead of the Netflix one?
I NEED an episode about the music box. I know there’s symbolism there I just can’t crack it
Something different from what others have been pointing out that I’ve noticed is lower quality sound effects. Honestly I prefer the originals style which is more in your face. Like the Netflix version can fly over your head and really makes things have less impact. Also the voice acting. It’s definitely not the Voice actors faults. It’s the person in charge of it. They don’t really have as much life as the og season 1
I just ignored the first 3 episodes and rewatched the first season on youtube then went back to netflix and watched lazy in space, just so happy we finally got it
Man, I'm just discovering bee and puppycat wasn't a netflix original. Really hope it's still online somewhere
Your getting more story I don’t mind. But I still like watching the the original
Both versions are amazing 🤩
You know I was just thinking to myself what is the difference between the two versions so thank you for answering my question
Always one step ahead!
Haha 😆
Am i the only one who thought bee's dad is that one kid in puppycat's flashback
I do prefer the original season 1, but I do think the reboot episodes (plus the remainder of season 2) is extremely charming and is something I would love to see more of
