I remember watching the wedding at primary school, we all sat on the floor in the dark. Princess Margaret was stunning, and I love her dress, I think it was the nicest out of all the royals wedding dresses.

I remember this on tv ! I was a little girl seeing the dress and hearing those trupets! Oh how I wanted those at my wedding. I even got grandma involved in this dream of trumpets, who promptly told me I had to get married at either st Paul's or westminister. Lol. She soon sorted the dream!

Who forced Anthony Armstrong to get married to her? He was an awful husband, he cheated on her with both men and women. He used her in many ways...she was betrayed, she was abused mentally and physically hundreds of times. Let's be honest, there was no love in this marriage. Margaret was still in love with Peter but still unmarried and almost 30 years old....she needed a husband... unfortunately she was desperate and her "forced" choice was a big mistake...

The Queen was a very dutiful, disciplined and faith-based woman, I don't see Margaret as having being particularly strong but that's just my view.

She was her own person----not a conformist. I think she could never forgive the royals for not approving of her engagement to the Townsend fellow. He was older and divorced. Maybe he would have been the "right" man for her. Armstrong-Jones was a party animal. He quickly tired of Margaret and went on to bigger and better adventures. I don't think Margaret was a happy person. That's why she drank, was always out and about----anything to forget her troubles. I think that at the end when she was so ill she just gave up. Her story once again shows that even the royals don't have happy lives. They have domestic problems just like we ordinary folk do.
They have loves and losses, and for some of them they never really get over those losses.
It was the smoking that killed her.
It's more than that, Townsend was a creepy predator. He was a married man with 2 children when he started seeing Margaret (who was 15 years younger than him). After the breakup, he moved on to an even younger woman.
You can see he's a commoner. Handsome, but not too princely. But enjoying his royal run.

She attended our church in Fife.We had to wait for her to arrive.She totally ignored everyone.Her clothes were dirty.I remember when she visited a school for the blind.The school I taught at on the root she took in her car.We waited to see her .All waved but she just turned her head away and carried on talking to whoever she was with.

Thirty was considered late to marry back then and suitable men would all have been taken! That's what happens when she spent her best years with Townshend then told to wait two years before she made a decision. She also had a romance with Robin Douglas Home, a pianist, who committed suicide.
