Thank you for an entertaining 4 minutes in my day!
I came across this video because I have a 3m x 3m vegetable bed in my back garden and wanted to just build a low border structure to prevent soil overspill onto paths and lawn.
Besides the very helpful, clear, straightforward building demo, I loved the surroundings and context of your video! I lived in the southern US (GA, TN and NC) for 16 years in the 1990s and 2000s, and it was heartwarming to be reminded of the typical southern back yards (of course, we call them gardens here in the UK, which in the States means a vegetable bed ...), dogs and cats wandering around, neighbour's dog barking, chain link fences, southern accents and no-nonsense way of going about things.
My favourite part of the video was at 2:55, when you said, "We wanted to make it real fancy ..." I can't exactly place the accents, so I won't risk a guess, but maybe you can tell me which state you are in?

Great video! I’m curious how the fence pickets held up to the weight of the soil and water since you built them?

Fence boards are they treated with toxic chemicals that will leach into your food?

I made some beds out of this material and the fence boards only lasted 3-4 years.

The $40 - was that for one bed or all of them? Was it for the wood only?

I wish I knew what a furring was

They are mostly likely talking about fitting strips. When you buy these, they can be purchased as single individual pieces or as a bundle, I think in 6 or 9 pieces. However, look at the pieces when you purchase them to make sure they are as straight as possible. Just as buying any wood, 2x4’s etc, you want them as straight as possible. You will see how these look. I have used furring strips for different projects.

Also the other fittings that they used is more commonly known as 2x2’s.
